Chapter 722: Side Story One: Loving You Was Just an Accident

I always thought my first meeting with Lin Yixun was at the anniversary ceremony of our alma mater. It wasn’t until much later that I realized that wasn’t our first encounter; our real first meeting was because of a car accident.

At the time, I was still in college, and my software company had just been established. Although my father had many connections, I wanted to rely solely on my own abilities and didn’t want to depend on my father’s influence. However, sometimes being stubborn comes at a price. The price of my stubbornness was that, apart from professional courses, almost all my time was used for entrepreneurship.

Starting a business is always difficult. Due to limited startup funds and a small number of employees, I had to personally handle many tasks. Once, on the way to meet a client, due to several days of working nonstop, I was so exhausted that I mistakenly saw the red light at an intersection as green. Unfortunately, as I ran the red light, a speeding car suddenly appeared from the right.

Thus, I encountered the first car accident of my life. And because of this accident, Lin Yixun came into my life.

Later on, I often wondered, if I hadn’t stayed up all night the previous evening, if I hadn’t run the red light at the intersection, if that accident hadn’t happened, would Lin Yixun and I never have met? Would our lives be different then?

Unfortunately, there is no "if" in this world, only results. As a result, I had a car accident, and as a result, I met Lin Yixun.

The scene of the accident was very tragic. My car was almost completely wrecked in an instant, and my head was severely injured from hitting the steering wheel hard. Besides my head, my legs and arms also seemed to be injured and were bleeding.

The air was filled with the smell of gasoline, suggesting that gasoline had leaked from the tank. This situation was undoubtedly dangerous, as even a small spark could cause the car to explode at any time.

I struggled to move my body and tried to open the car door to escape, but sadly found that I had no strength to do so. Misfortune never comes singly; through the rearview mirror, I vaguely saw smoke rising from the back of the car.

This was a very bad sign.

I mustered all my strength to move my body, knowing that if I didn’t leave quickly, I might be consumed by the flames. But, being injured, it was impossible for me to escape on my own.

Blood kept flowing from my wounds, and the pain in my head felt like it would explode. My vision gradually blurred, and my consciousness was slowly slipping away.

This situation made me feel helpless and desperate. My company had just started, I hadn’t made my mark in the business world yet, and my life had only just begun. Was it going to end here?

This outcome made me very unwilling.

Just when I thought I was about to perish here, a slim figure unexpectedly burst into my view, followed by a clear voice, "Hey, are you okay?"

The girl’s voice was pleasant, like a ray of dawn, piercing deep into my heart, pulling me back from despair.

I squinted, trying to see her face clearly, but all I saw was a blurred outline. I assumed that my head injury was causing my vision to be unclear.

At this moment, the girl’s melodious voice came again, "You’re so badly injured. You need to go to the hospital immediately. But you’re so big, moving you out of the car is going to be a bit difficult."

The girl seemed conflicted, yet calm. I had no time to listen to this; looking at her, I struggled to speak, "Quick... quickly... get me out of the car!"

The car could explode at any moment. Staying inside even for another second added to the danger, and she was also in danger.

She seemed to sense urgency in my tone and quickly nodded, "Okay, I’ll get you out of here right away."

As soon as the girl finished speaking, flames erupted from the back of the car, which was extremely dangerous. I thought she would leave me in the face of such danger. After all, she had no obligation to risk her life to save me, a stranger.

But to my surprise, she not only stayed but also continuously reassured me, "Don’t worry, I’ll get you out in a moment. Even though you’re quite big, with all my strength, I might still be able to drag you out."

Then, the girl unbuckled my seatbelt, hugged my upper body, and dragged me out of the car.

Though her body was slender, she seemingly used all her strength. After pulling me out of the driver’s seat and seeing the growing flames at the back of the car, she didn’t hesitate and dragged me another ten meters away.

My hardened heart was deeply moved. In this world, there are very few people who would risk their lives to save a stranger, but this girl in front of me decided to save me without hesitation.

Just as she dragged me to a safe distance, I heard a deafening explosion not far away. My car was completely destroyed in the middle of the road, and this girl saved my life at the crucial moment.

Relieved, the tension in my heart eased, and I couldn’t hold on any longer, and fainted.

When I woke up, I found myself in a hospital. The smell of disinfectant filled my nostrils, making me frown in disgust.

Thanks to the timely treatment, my vision had restored and was no longer blurry, although my head and legs were in a cast, making movement impossible. I thought it would take a long time for my legs to fully recover.

Feeling somewhat thirsty, I wanted to call for a nurse, but at that moment, the door to the ward was pushed open, and a tall, striking woman walked in.

"You’re awake?"

"Was it you who saved me?"

"Yes," the woman nodded.

"Miss, may I know your name?"

A hint of disappointment flashed in the girl’s eyes, "Don’t you recognize me?"

I frowned in confusion, "You are...?"

"It seems you really don’t remember me. I’m Cheng Ying, the little girl from next door. Our family moved to the United States when I started middle school, and we recently moved back here. I wanted to find you after returning home, but as it happened, I encountered you in the car accident. You’ve changed a lot over the years. I didn’t recognize you at first, but when I registered you in the hospital, I realized it was you."

"So, it’s you." I had a vague memory of the girl from next door.

But, did she really save me?

I looked closely at the woman in front of me. For some reason, something felt off, but I couldn’t put my finger on it.
