My Toxic Ex-Wife: BOSS, Stay Away!-Chapter 544 - 552: Scapegoat
Although Leng Group’s nemesis, the Guo Group, made some minor modifications to the game, the similarity was still ninety percent. Clearly, this was not a coincidence; someone deliberately leaked it.
So, who leaked it?
For a time, the high-level executives of both Leng’s and Lei Man were in a state of panic. This game had not yet been released, and only those in high positions had access to it and the opportunity to leak it. Naturally, both Leng’s and Lei Man were furious, and Lei Man held multiple emergency meetings in quick succession.
Lei Man had invested a lot of manpower and resources into developing this software, and now that the game had been stolen by a competitor, Shi Yi was naturally upset.
She had Shen Xu form an investigative team to look into the software theft and discussed the next steps with the company’s top executives. However, having been in this industry for many years, she knew in her heart that even if a solution was found, losses would be unavoidable.
That evening, Shi Yi organized a video conference with the major shareholders at the company’s headquarters. Previously, due to Leiman’s outstanding performance under her leadership, even though some shareholders were dissatisfied with her, they did not openly express it. But this time, using the game software leak as an excuse, some shareholders could no longer hold back.
Even though they were separated by the vast Pacific Ocean, the video conference that evening was destined to be tense. Some shareholders even suggested that if the leak caused the company significant losses, Shi Yi, as the project leader, should bear inescapable responsibility.
For the first time, Shi Yi was speechless. Although there was an element of difficulty in this, she couldn’t deny that she did hold some responsibility for the incident.
After the video conference ended, Shi Yi was exhausted. She rubbed her temples vigorously and decided to take a bath to relax. She quietly told herself that it was nothing; she had encountered more difficult situations than this before.
After resting for a night, Shi Yi finally regained some energy. As she entered Lei Man’s office, she saw Shen Xu storm in angrily.
Shi Yi couldn’t help but ask, "What happened that made even our Manager Shen so furious?"
"I heard that old fart Ashley gave you a hard time at the board meeting?"
Shi Yi’s expression changed slightly. She asked with a smirk, "How did you know? Your information is quite up-to-date."
"Never mind where I heard it from. Just answer yes or no."
"Yes, you know he has been at odds with me for years." Shi Yi said quietly.
"Hmph! That old geezer sure knows how to hold a grudge. Who would have thought he’d resent you for all these years because of what happened back then."
"Germans can be quite old-fashioned sometimes. But rest assured, I can handle the current situation. Even if Lei Man suffers losses this time, they won’t be able to do anything to me."
"Of course, I know that," Shen Xu nodded. If Shi Yi didn’t have this capability, she wouldn’t have stayed in the top position for so long.
"I’m just curious about which part went wrong. Logically, every step of our software development was highly confidential. There shouldn’t have been any slip-ups." Shi Yi said, resting her face on one hand while gently tapping the desk with the other. "Could it be an inside job?"
"That’s what I initially thought too, but I reviewed the surveillance footage of everyone involved in the project and found nothing unusual. I suspect the problem might be on Leng’s side. After all, Leng’s was also involved in developing this software. We finished our handover with Leng’s and then the problem occurred, which makes it hard not to be suspicious."
Shi Yi’s fingers froze for a moment. She looked up and asked, "You think it’s possible the leak came from Leng’s side?"
"It’s not out of the question."
Shi Yi’s eyes narrowed. "If that’s the case, we’ll have to settle this score with Leng Group."
Out of caution, Shi Yi reviewed the surveillance footage from the R&D department again. As Shen Xu said, from the start of development to the end, every step followed protocols, and no one violated any rules.
After this investigation, Shi Yi began to believe the fault did not lie with Lei Man, but with an inside issue at Leng’s. However, she did not confront Leng’s with this conclusion because she believed a company like Leng Group would soon provide them with a satisfactory explanation.
But Shi Yi never expected that instead of Leng’s investigative results, she would receive explosive news. This news instantly pushed her into the eye of the storm.
When Shen Xu called Shi Yi, she was still asleep. Annoyed, she answered the call, wanting to scold him for always calling early in the morning.
"Hello, can’t you check the time before calling?" Shi Yi complained.
"Shi Yi, something big happened!"
"What big thing? Don’t tell me the sky is falling?"
"Worse than the sky falling. Turn on your computer, quickly!..."
Shi Yi followed Shen Xu’s instructions, turned on her computer, and randomly opened a website, then clicked on the news page. The moment she clicked it, her attention was drawn to a striking photo.
The photo depicted a man and a woman in front of a five-star hotel in T City. The two stood facing each other, their bodies slightly leaning forward. The man’s hand tightly gripped the woman’s arm, with a radiant smile on his face, while the woman bowed her head, a slight smile on her lips, seeming both shy and happy. This scene, in the eyes of outsiders, could even be seen as intimate.
Staring closely at the photo on the computer screen, Shi Yi’s fingers gradually curled. She didn’t recognize the man in the photo, but she could recognize the woman even if she were blind.
Because that woman was herself!
Anyone looking at this photo would think she was having an affair with the man. But only she knew this was just a misunderstanding. She didn’t even know the man’s name, let alone have any connection with him.
However, the photo didn’t look digitally manipulated. Shi Yi strained to recall and finally remembered what had happened. She remembered staying at that five-star hotel before moving to her current residence. Once, she almost tripped on the steps, and a gentleman caught her just in time, preventing her fall.
She never imagined that this scene would be captured by paparazzi and blown out of proportion. And this story could indeed ruin her.
Whether by coincidence or fate mocking her, the man who helped her was none other than the president of the Guo Group, Leng Group’s deadliest rival.
At such a critical moment, the release of this photo was bound to lead to wild speculations, possibly blaming her for leaking the game software!
