My Skill Bar is Full of Monster Skills-Chapter 39: Team Communication
Early the next morning.
Raine followed the arrangement with Chris and stopped in front of a house located on the southwest corner of Mill Town.
This was a typical two-story dwelling of Mill Town, rented as a practice field by the Howling Hunter Squad. It had a sloped roof and a stone chimney, but what made it unique was the nearly two-meter-high fence enclosing a large front yard.
Through the dense ivy and honeysuckle on the fence, Raine could see the familiar figures practicing in the yard.
A few minutes later.
In the front yard.
"Raine, come, let’s spar a bit."
"Yesterday, while clearing out the Vampire Bats, I felt that your shield technique seemed even better than mine." Chris lifted his shield, laughing as he spoke to Raine.
Though Chris often joked around, he was quite proud internally.
As a Warrior Apprentice, if he couldn’t even use a shield better than a Mage Apprentice, he would doubt his abilities and further question his role in the squad.
"Alright."
Raine happily accepted the sparring invitation from Chris.
On one hand, sparring could improve his mastery of Combat Skills.
On the other hand, it was a tradition of the Adventurer Squad, to deepen understanding among teammates through sparring.
"Here are the training tools." Chris pointed to the iron rack where a Ringed Wooden Shield, an unsharpened Iron Sword, and Wooden Hammer were placed, among other items.
"Okay."
Soon, the two stood in the center of the field.
Compared to Chris’s tense stance, Raine appeared much more relaxed.
Seeing Chris sparring against Raine, Fabian and Reya joined Grande in watching with interest from the side.
"Is Raine’s shield technique really amazing?"
Since Reya hadn’t seen Raine engage in melee combat with monsters during the two previous occasions, she couldn’t help but ask Fabian beside her.
Hmm?
Upon hearing Reya’s words, Fabian was momentarily surprised.
He glanced at Grande beside him and then smiled, saying:
"Captain, why don’t we make a bet? Whoever loses treats everyone at the Fireplace Bar. I bet Raine will win!"
"Hmm?" Reya was slightly puzzled as she looked at Raine, then at Fabian, saying: "You’re that confident in Raine?"
"It’s not just me, Grande too." Fabian replied with a smile.
Reya glanced at Grande, who also nodded seriously with a determined expression.
"This..."
"Alright, since you’re betting on Raine, I’ll bet on Chris." Reya still couldn’t quite believe Chris would lose to Raine in a shield contest.
After all, one is a Warrior Apprentice, and the other is a Mage Apprentice.
Moreover, they had agreed not to use Magic; losing would be quite unexpected.
"Clang!!"
The battle had already begun in the center of the field.
Chris’s initial move was slightly faster, swinging an Iron Sword towards Raine, but it was immediately blocked by Raine’s raised shield.
Then, Raine countered with a swing of his hammer.
"Boom!"
Chris also raised his shield to block, but as soon as the hammer hit the shield, his expression changed.
He felt a tremendous force transmitting from the shield-bearing left hand to his arm and shoulder, forcing him to step back to relieve and buffer the impact.
Outside the field.
What?
Seeing this, Reya was taken aback, slightly parting her red lips in surprise.
About to advance to a formal Classes, she naturally had the observational skills required.
Chris, as a Warrior Apprentice sparring against Raine, was even slightly weaker in terms of Power.
This... left her momentarily speechless.
Although Raine had previously demonstrated good Power and melee skills, Reya had only regarded him as a slightly stronger Mage Apprentice.
But never had she expected Raine to easily repel Chris in close combat.
Is this really a Mage Apprentice?
Meanwhile, as Reya pondered, the sparring continued rapidly on the field.
After a series of brief exchanges, suddenly, both Chris and Raine seemed to find an opening, and both swung their shields at each other.
"Boom!!"
The two wooden shields collided simultaneously, but the next moment, to everyone’s astonishment.
Chris staggered back three steps before regaining balance!
Moreover, due to the forceful frontal collision, the sturdy wooden shield in his hand even cracked slightly.
"Raine, I lost!" Chris looked at the cracked wooden shield, forced a bitter smile, and shook his head.
Although he had anticipated not being able to defeat Raine, when this moment truly arrived, he couldn’t help but feel disappointed as a Warrior Apprentice.
"Chris, I just have greater Power." Raine replied sincerely.
In fact, Raine spoke the truth.
Much of his ability stemmed from the Bloodline of monsters, including how he could defeat the well-trained Warrior Apprentice Chris, largely relying on the passive talents of the Wild Boar Warrior Bloodline - ’Brute Force Lv2’ and ’Thick Hide Lv2’.
Without the bloodline’s augmentation in Power and Constitution, even with guidance from Master Humbert, beating Chris with less than two months of shield training would have been impossible.
At this point, Reya approached, her eyes scrutinizing Raine, saying:
"Raine, I think I need to get to know you all over again."
"Are you really a Mage Apprentice? Or have you planned on becoming Special Classes all along?"
"Special Classes? Are you referring to the Arcane Knight you mentioned last time?" Raine curiously asked.
"No, the Arcane Knight is a subsequent superclass advancement. I’m talking about the first step towards Classes." Reya shook her head.
To make it clearer, Reya continued:
"For example, taking me as a Ranger Apprentice, the normal route is becoming a Ranger. But there’s always a special path, like primarily enhancing shooting abilities, which might lead to becoming a Divine Shooter."
Divine Shooter?
Raine nodded slightly as he listened.
This sounded somewhat like the special Classes Giant Hammer Warrior that Master Humbert had mentioned earlier.
"But if a Ranger Apprentice acquires certain spellcasting abilities, they might become the rarer Magic Archer."
"Magic Archer?" Raine was momentarily startled, and his mind involuntarily mulled over the term.
Because this situation was very similar to his current state.
The other was an archer combined with certain spellcasting abilities, while he was a warrior combined with certain spellcasting abilities.
"Captain, are you planning to transition to Divine Shooter or Magic Archer?"
"If only it were so simple like that, to switch despite having no spells like required for Magic Archer." Reya rolled her eyes at Raine.
"Raine, let’s talk about you instead!" Reya switched the focus back, questioning once more.
