Chapter 120: After Second Awakening, Things Become Normal Again

"Ugh," Dennis opened his eyes, but he immediately squeezed them shut again because the overhead lights were on and blinding him. He tried to gather his senses as his head still felt heavy.

"Huh... is it bright already? Does that mean we’re finally out of the center of darkness?" Dennis asked in his heart.

But, when he tried to get up, "hgh," he couldn’t move. He lifted his head and looked around, his eyes instantly widening as he realized he was in the bed in his own apartment. Daisy was hugging his left arm, Daphne was hugging his right arm, and Donna was sprawled directly on top of him. Dahlia was on the left side right next to Daisy, Diana was on the right right next to Daphne, and Dulcia was lying across both of his legs.

"Good grief... have mercy on me if it’s going to be like this," Dennis muttered, sinking his head back onto the pillow.

After a few moments, "vwooong," an interface popped up in front of him, followed by his status screen.

Then Dennis used his Analyze skill on himself. Just as Sami had said, his power had returned to 30,000. But he immediately looked back at his status screen; a power level of 30,000 was his status at level one. If he reached level 99 again, his strength would obviously far exceed what it was before.

"Hmm... I’m going to be incredibly strong once I hit the cap... and that’s not even counting the next evolution... this is interesting," Dennis muttered in his heart.

Dennis shut down all the interfaces and glanced toward the window. Behind the curtains, sunlight was peeking through. He looked over at the desk and saw the clock already read 9:00 AM the following morning.

He realized he had been asleep for an entire day since yesterday. He let out a sigh because he still couldn’t move and didn’t want to wake his seven wives.

"Sami, how long was I out?" Dennis asked in his head.

[Twelve hours total, Master.]

"What happened at school and the city while I was unconscious yesterday until today? Any news?" Dennis asked in his head.

[One hour ago, the city government announced that during our three days in the center of darkness, there were 21 deaths and 220 people injured and hospitalized. The school holiday has been extended by three days while the city is in recovery. As for yesterday after you fainted in school, there were no major incidents; before reaching land and getting back on track, three dimensional rifts opened in front of the school gates and were handled by your friends.]

"I see. Did Mr. Steve return to the school? What was his reaction when he found out one of the 10th graders died?" Dennis asked.

[He immediately arranged the funeral and told your team they did a good job. According to him, back when Ivan’s team was in charge last year, three 12th graders died during the journey back to land.]

"Huh... really? How come I didn’t know about that?" Dennis asked.

[You weren’t part of the school watch back then.]

"Ah... that’s right. Back then I was still a clueless loser, letting my wife do all the work... man. So, who brought me back home yesterday?" Dennis replied in his head.

[Your seven wives, Master. They disguised themselves at school as your primary wife, taking turns watching over you. When it was time to go, they brought you back together.]

Dennis lifted his head once more and looked at his seven wives, still sleeping and piled all around him. He laid his head back down and smiled; of course, he felt happy knowing his seven wives truly loved him. He began to imagine a life together, building a family with them.

But then, he remembered the state of his apartment: the seven of them sitting in the living room, chatting while eating snacks and leaving a mess, and his kitchen filled with all sorts of strange objects and experimental results. The cheerful smile on his face instantly shifted into a look of pure horror.

Then, he lifted his head and looked at Donna in front of him. He squinted his eyes to read the small holographic screen hovering directly before him: clone period, 42 months. After that, he closed his eyes and opened them again, forcing himself back to reality.

"That’s right, today I have to ask the landlord for permission to make copies of the apartment keys for the other six, besides Daisy," Dennis muttered in his heart.

He let out a sigh and closed his eyes again, hoping his seven wives would wake up soon. Then he felt Daphne’s grip start to loosen, though she was still asleep. Slowly, he slid his arm out of Daphne’s embrace. He then freed his left arm from Daisy, supporting her head with his right arm so she wouldn’t wake up. After that, he began to sit up and gently lifted Donna, turning to lay her down in his spot right next to Daisy. Finally, he sat at the edge of the bed and carefully lifted Dulcia before pulling both of his legs free.

Once clear, he stepped off the bed quietly and walked over to the wardrobe. He opened it and pulled out the drawer to grab his smartphone. As the screen lit up, "ding... ding... ding," a flood of notifications poured in. Most were from school group chats discussing various things—mainly messages of condolence for Brandon sent by students from the 10th through the 12th grade.

However, there were also several email notifications. When he opened them, he saw they were from the school announcing Brandon’s death and the extended holiday, along with an email from his mother replying to the message he had sent before entering the center of darkness and docking in Onyx City.

He opened the email from his mother. Dennis read it with a smile because his parents had answered everything he asked in his email without hiding anything, confirming that what he had dreamed about back then was true. His mother also said that even though Dennis now knew the truth about his origins, his parents still considered him their own flesh and blood. Then, his mother mentioned that she had known Dennis’s biological mother, but unfortunately, she had already passed away. She also sent an attachment of a letter his biological mother had sent to her, along with a photo of her.

Dennis opened the attachment. He read the letter from his biological mother to his mom, which explained that she had surrendered all custody rights to Dennis’s adoptive parents after his father rescued him. The reason was that his biological mother had cancer and knew she wouldn’t live long; that was why she had allowed Dennis to be taken as collateral, hoping his life would be better away from her.

She also asked Dennis’s mother to tell him that she was sorry and would love him for the rest of her life. Dennis read it while smiling, and unconsciously, tears began to fall. Then, he looked at the photo of his biological mother holding him—he looked to be about a year old—with a bright, cheerful smile on her face.

"Finally, we meet again, Mama... goodbye, and rest in peace over there," Dennis muttered in his heart, smiling through his tears as he looked at his biological mother’s face in the photo. She looked exactly like she did in his dreams, except in his dreams, she had appeared exhausted and hadn’t smiled at all.

Dennis’s hand gripped his smartphone screen as his tears continued to drop. He saved the photo to his phone.

"Is that your birth mother, honey, my husband, love, sugar, hon, baby, dear?"

Dennis turned and jumped in surprise as he saw the faces of Daisy, Diana, Dahlia, Donna, Deborah, Dulcia, and Daphne appearing over his shoulders and arms, staring at his smartphone.

"Good grief! Please stop scaring me like that. What if I have a heart attack?" Dennis shouted.

After that, he pulled all of his wives into an embrace and kissed their cheeks one by one. Then, they all looked at the photo of Dennis’s biological mother together. Afterward, the seven of them helped Dennis as he typed a reply to his parents’ email. As soon as Dennis hit send, he turned to look at his seven wives.

"We have another day off today, so what do you want to do?" Dennis asked.

"Sleep and have fun all day, hehe," the seven of them answered in unison as they pulled Dennis back. And of course, one thing led to another.
