My Scheming Little Devil-Chapter 988: No Turning Back
But clearly, Third Young Master Jun did not heed Yan Su’s dissuasion at all.
"Inject it now! Whatever the consequences, I will bear them alone. Tonight’s plan can only succeed; if it fails because of me, I can’t tolerate such failure!"
The tone of Third Young Master Jun was firm and resolute, his face and eyes filled with an unswerving determination.
Yan Su simply couldn’t dissuade him; if this man decided to do something, if you didn’t allow him, he would just grab the medicine and inject himself.
Yan Su administered another injection, and Third Young Master Jun closed his eyes, quietly leaning against the chair back, waiting for the drug to take effect, to make him more alert and restore his strength.
...
The atmosphere in Ling’s Family was oppressive.
Ling Xiu had decided to go abroad for his master’s degree, but when Old Ling heard the news, he was furious and did not agree.
"Grandfather, whether you agree or not, once I have decided on something, I will not change my mind," the handsome Ling Xiu said with a reckless expression; he had always been passionate, his love and hate both extremely intense.
So once he made up his mind, he was like the most stubborn person, determined to achieve his goal at any cost.
Old Ling slammed the table and cursed in anger, "Ling Xiu, have you had enough fun? Do you even have the Ling family in your heart? Previously, you let yourself go, never bearing any responsibility for the family. And now, for a woman, you’re even thinking of running off abroad."
Old Ling was a hard-style military man who enforced strict discipline, loyal to the country, and wanted his children to excel, to walk the proper path, to contribute to the nation.
But Ling Xiu had always been beyond his expectations, rebellious since childhood, without a trace of conformity, lacking the discipline of a military family.
Always mingling with those worthless rich and official second generations, not seeking progress, prodigal and wilful, without any of the positive ambition that a member of the Ling family should have.
"She’s not just a woman; she’s the person I love."
"Foolish, to disregard your family for a woman, I am utterly disappointed in you."
"When have you ever had hopes for me?" Ling Xiu’s face showed a hint of sarcasm, "Aren’t you the one who always thought I was a good-for-nothing, only capable of losing the Ling family’s face?"
Old Ling grew even angrier, "Aren’t you disappointing? Look at your brother, in every way he is superior to you. It’s because I’ve been too busy and have neglected to educate you that you have ended up like this today."
"Anyway, I’m just someone without a father’s teaching and a mother’s care, what good can you expect from me?"
"How dare you mention your parents, how outstanding your father and mother were, why didn’t you inherit any of their talents?"
Remembering his deceased son and daughter-in-law, Old Ling’s eyes revealed a trace of melancholy.
Ling Xiu’s parents died when he was ten years old. His only son was gone, and due to the pain and his high position, which kept him busy, he rarely returned home and thus seldom disciplined Ling Xiu.
Seeing Ling Xiu like this now, he truly felt he had let down his son.
"Why shouldn’t I mention it?" Ling Xiu suddenly became agitated, his eyes filled with hatred, his voice pressing, "Shouldn’t you be the one not daring to mention them? If it wasn’t because you wanted to hold onto your high position, making so many political enemies, would my parents have been assassinated? Today is the anniversary of my parents’ death; have you ever offered incense for them?"
A slap filled with rage struck Ling Xiu’s face, almost drawing blood from the corner of his mouth.
Old Ling held up his hand, shaking all over with anger, never having been so enraged, nor so heartbroken.
