Chapter 2046: Chapter 2046: An Unexpected Place

The mother and daughter had to do everything themselves. In fact, she was brought up as the Eldest Miss, never lifting a finger for household chores.

But facing a noble lady like Madam Aisha, who was even worse at chores and looked pitifully helpless in the kitchen, she had no choice but to brace herself for battle!

While preparing dinner, she suddenly heard someone knocking at the door. Opening it, she saw it was a stranger, a government officer.

Jun Yiyi was immediately on alert.

Getting involved with the government always spells trouble, but she had expected it. It was impossible for the current government to ignore the families in these areas. They would come to investigate them sooner or later, hoping to extract some secrets about Governor Yun.

She had long imagined they would come to take her and her mother for questioning and had mentally prepared to distance themselves from Governor Yun. But surprisingly, no government intelligence agency had bothered them in the past month or two, to her amazement.

Is this the moment?

"Miss Yun, we need you to come with us," the officer said politely, not seeming to want to escort her to an interrogation.

And he only wanted to take her, not asking for Madam Aisha too— perhaps they weren’t planning to question them.

With questions in her mind, she got into the car with him. The route was unexpectedly familiar, and Jun Yiyi realized they were taking her to the villa she and Madam Aisha used to live in.

She was astonished, stepped out of the car, and saw the always quiet and elegant villa was wide open with people constantly coming and going. The beautiful, clean garden was trampled, losing its former elegance and tranquility. Many plants were crushed, and even the carefully designed wisteria corridors flanking the entrance were uprooted, leaving two barren strips. The once lovely courtyard was entirely ruined and turned into a public space devoid of beauty.

Seeing this, Jun Yiyi was both angry and speechless. This had been her home ever since arriving in the Aus Empire, and she felt an emotional attachment. Its current chaotic state, like a garbage dump, was enraging.

It had long been heard that the properties and villas of high officials from the Queen’s Party were confiscated by the Councilman’s government. Naturally, these properties represented enormous wealth, which they wouldn’t overlook, yet they showed such disregard.

"What are you planning to do with this place?" Jun Yiyi glared at the officer, displeased.

The officer saw her angry expression and apologized, saying, "Sorry, this place has been requisitioned by the relevant government charity to serve as a shelter for homeless people, giving them somewhere to stay and eat."

Homeless people? Doesn’t this city already have designated apartments for sheltering the homeless, all managed under a comprehensive system? Why suddenly use these confiscated villas as residence for the homeless?

After all, these villas belonged to officials, lavishly equipped with high-tech facilities— surely more suited for converting into office spaces or exhibition areas than housing the homeless.

Using such valuable mansions for the homeless is an enormous waste and utter bewilderment— no sensible government officer should come up with such an absurd idea.

It’s complete squandering; what are those institutions thinking?

"Why did you bring me here? To show me my home being ruined like this?"
