Chapter 1067: Chapter 1067: Extreme Sweetness

Seeing that Feiyu ignored her, Ye Lu knew that he must have been silenced by Third Young Master Jun, forbidden to divulge to her the matters from that dark place, to spare her the worry and effort.

But she would always find a way to know.

Just as she returned to her room, Third Young Master Jun’s deadly call came through. Lately, he had been calling her often, but she had never answered, wanting to give herself some quiet time to think things over, to consider where their relationship was headed.

This time, he must have called because Feiyu told him something had happened to her, right?

After some thought, she finally answered.

"Are you out of your mind, daring to look for Gu Yan? Lucky nothing happened, or I would have flown back immediately to kill him," the man’s voice came through, seething with rage, so loud it hurt her ears, making it apparent that Third Young Master Jun was furious and felt like giving her a good beating.

Ye Lu felt gloomy. She admitted she might have been a bit inconsiderate and had overestimated Gu Yan’s character, but she was doing this to help him find the truth.

Yet he started by yelling at her.

"Isn’t everything fine now? Even without Feiyu, I would have found a way to escape on my own."

"You..." Her unrepentant attitude infuriated Third Young Master Jun, his breathing heavy with anger.

"Are you calling just to scold me? If you’re done, I’m going to sleep," Ye Lu said, irritated.

Third Young Master Jun huffed, and after suppressing his anger, he couldn’t help but ask, "Why did you go looking for Gu Yan?"

"...Can’t I just have a chat with an old lover?"

"You dare to try," Third Young Master Jun said, his anger provoking a violent coughing fit, which made his voice sound noticeably weaker. He didn’t speak for a long time.

Ye Lu heard chaotic and anxious voices in the background, urging him to get in the car quickly, but he sternly ordered them to stop the noise.

She raised an eyebrow. What was happening on his end? Such chaotic sounds.

"I heard from Feiyu that you asked him who killed Old Ling," Third Young Master Jun’s haughty tone mixed with undeniable joy, his voice burning with anticipation, "He told you it was Gu Yan, didn’t he? Did you go there for this, to help prove my innocence?"

Before he left that day, he had told her that he wasn’t the one who killed Old Ling.

He didn’t expect her to believe him, because in her eyes, he was nothing but an unforgivable villain, probably making excuses. But the fact that she asked Feiyu meant she truly believed he wasn’t the culprit.

Thus, despite his worry and extreme annoyance about her impulsive decision to confront Gu Yan, deep down he felt an intense sweetness and joy.

"Yes, I did go to Gu Yan for this matter," Ye Lu replied coolly, her tone indifferent, "But you got one thing wrong, I didn’t do it for you, I just didn’t want the real murderer of Old Ling to get away..."

She hadn’t finished speaking when she heard the dial tone of the phone being hung up on the other end.

Ye Lu widened her eyes, then tossed aside the phone and quietly lay on the bed.

Had the man gotten angry and rudely hung up on her?

But she didn’t regret speaking so coldly; until she had made up her mind, she wouldn’t give him any hope or the wrong impression. The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.

In fact, she had wrongfully accused Third Young Master Jun.

Third Young Master Jun had suddenly felt a dizzy spell coming on, aware that he was about to pass out, and, not wanting her to hear the screams and panic on his end and worry about his severe injury, he had quickly hung up the phone.

The moment he collapsed, his pale lips twisted with a bitter self-mocking smile, and in his weary, bloodshot eyes was an indescribable pain.

Perhaps he was overthinking it; even if she heard the commotion, she wouldn’t worry, she wouldn’t care!
