My Scheming Little Devil-Chapter 1047: The Real Murderer
Ye Lu gasped in a cold breath. Qingchi had actually come back to attend the funeral; if Ling Xiu asked about the ornament and found out Qingchi never left that thing behind, it would be over.
Ye Lu was extremely anxious.
However, Qingchi still felt some involuntary fear towards Ling Xiu, and greeted him with a lukewarm, "Second Young Master."
Ling Xiu’s eyes, which had been overflowing with thrilled delight, dimmed as a result.
Ling Yan sighed after looking at a disappointed Ling Xiu and then at the indifferent Qingchi.
"Qingchi, you’re here to pay your respects to Grandfather, aren’t you!"
"Yes, I truly didn’t expect Old Ling to... He took in my whole family, and I wanted to repay him by studying medicine well and treating his illness, but now I no longer have the chance." Tears streamed down her face as she covered her mouth, overwhelmed by sorrow.
Ling Yan couldn’t help but feel saddened as well, "Grandfather will understand your feelings, don’t be sad."
"Eldest Young Master, you too should preserve your well-being." Her eyes brimmed with warmth and care as she extended her hand to hug Ling Yan.
Ling Xiu saw her embrace his older brother, but she didn’t even glance in his direction, darkening his expression even more, his heart painfully stung.
"You rushed back here in such a hurry. I’ll call the butler and ask him to prepare a room for you," Ling Yan patted her shoulder.
But Qingchi shook her head, "There’s no need, Eldest Young Master, I plan to go back after the funeral."
Ye Lu’s previously lifted heart relaxed once again.
"Why are you in such a rush to leave? With the grace Old Ling showed you, does it only merit a day’s stay? Or is there someone here you’re so eager to flee from?" Ling Xiu asked angrily, his voice sharp with sarcasm.
Qingchi was shaken, Ling Yan frowned, looking at the agitated Ling Xiu.
"Ling Xiu!" That fool. He clearly wanted Qingchi to stay, yet he uttered such words.
Ling Xiu also felt he was too emotional and coldly turned his face away.
"Qingchi, he’s been in a lot of pain because of Grandfather’s passing, and is utterly exhausted. It’s understandable that he’s moody, don’t take it to heart. Listen to your Elder Brother, stay a few more days before you leave," Ling Yan implored Qingchi with pleading eyes.
Old Ling’s death had been such a heavy blow to Ling Xiu, who also felt deeply guilt-stricken and was suffering. If this went on, Ling Xiu wouldn’t be able to bear it. He hoped Qingchi could help Ling Xiu step out of the shadow of Grandfather’s death and ease the pain.
Qingchi looked at Ling Xiu and lowered her gaze, "Okay."
"Then, for the time being, why not have Qingchi stay with me?" Ye Lu’s heart sank, filled with guilt, yet he had to suggest, "I’d really like to know about my mother’s situation abroad."
Having Qingchi stay with Ling Xiu and Ling Yan would make it all too easy to uncover what Third Young Master Jun had done.
If Ling Xiu learned the secret of the ornament, he would surely go mad. He would hate Third Young Master Jun to death and seek revenge at all costs.
Ye Lu smiled bitterly. How was he any better than Third Young Master Jun? His own actions were despicable too.
...
Qingchi moved in, and Ye Lu was virtually inseparable from her, ostensibly for the company, but in reality, he had no choice but to constantly watch her. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
But this was not a solution. Even if the secret wasn’t exposed through Qingchi, the investigations by the Ling brothers could reveal something now that Old Ling’s funeral was over.
The brothers were now focusing all their efforts on this, trying hard to pursue the truth.
Most importantly, the real murderer and sufficient evidence needed to be found to prove that Old Ling wasn’t killed by Third Young Master Jun.
Ye Lu directly asked Feiyu who killed Old Ling that night.
"Why don’t you just ask Third Young Master directly?"
"He won’t tell me." A deeper reason was that she didn’t want to call him because she didn’t know what to say. During the days he was away, she hadn’t answered any of his calls.
Now he was mostly only calling the two children.
