Chapter 1009: Chapter 1009: Who is Using Whom?

"Even if we don’t have a wedding ceremony, we still need to register our marriage first," Old Madam Jun frowned as she looked at Ye Lu. What bride wouldn’t want to get married before having children? This was a matter of status.

She glanced over at Third Young Master Jun and sensed an unusual atmosphere, feeling puzzled in her heart.

Could it be that Ye Lu had detected something?

"Grandma, don’t worry. We will register. I would never let my child be born out of wedlock," Third Young Master Jun assured her with a firm smile, happily taking Ye Lu’s hand, which went stiff in his grasp.

Yet she couldn’t shake off his hold.

Gu Yan’s gaze turned even colder.

A while later, Third Young Master Jun and Ye Lu took their leave to go home.

Old Madam Jun mentioned she had to prepare something in the study and asked Gu Yan to come along and help.

Jun Shi’s eyes flickered with a dark gleam as he watched the retreating figures of Old Madam Jun and Gu Yan. He also stood up. Throughout the meal, he had observed the strange atmosphere between the two brothers.

He always felt they were hiding some secret. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Though he had been driven out of the Jun Family by that kid, Jun Huang, and banished overseas, it didn’t mean he would let things rest.

In the study, Old Madam Jun wore a grave expression.

"It seems there is some disharmony in the relationship between Jun Huang and Ye Lu. When I suggested they register their marriage, Ye Lu didn’t seem too willing," she said.

A mocking smile emerged on Gu Yan’s indifferent face: "They have conflicts, and you think I’m behind it, Grandma?"

"I didn’t mean that. It’s just that, Yan, things have come to this point. I hope you can truly let go and stop tormenting others as well as yourself. Because even if Ye Lu doesn’t stay with Jun Huang, she wouldn’t be with you either. She doesn’t love you anymore," Old Madam Jun’s words were clearly cruel yet realistic.

Gu Yan’s pale face turned even whiter, the veins on his clenched hand standing out starkly.

Old Madam Jun sighed, "There’s no fairness in life, and sometimes, right and wrong don’t apply—just fate. If you truly love Ye Lu, and you can’t make her happy, at least you’d want to see her happy, wouldn’t you?"

Gu Yan wanted to scoff in disdain. Why should Third Young Master Jun, the man who robbed him of happiness and harmed him, get everything?

He wasn’t that noble, nor did he wish to be.

His eyes swept over the slightly ajar door, and the shadows faintly cast on the floor, and he sneered inwardly.

He had promised Grandma and Mom not to tell Ye Lu about what had happened seven years ago. But did they really think he had no way to reveal the truth to Ye Lu?

Did Jun Shi think he could use him? Who knew? Perhaps it was the other way around!

"Grandma, rest assured, I never planned to tell Ye Lu that Jun Huang was the man who, seven years ago, on their wedding night, forced himself on her and fathered Yiyi and Yuanyuan," he said.

...

On the way back, Third Young Master Jun and Ye Lu rode in silence, the atmosphere between them gloomy and heavy.

It wasn’t until they returned to the villa that Ye Lu couldn’t restrain herself from questioning him.

"How did you find out that Old Ling would pass through that part of the outskirts that night? How do you understand Old Ling’s every move so thoroughly?"

Though Third Young Master Jun admitted to this, upon further reflection these last few days, she found many questionable points.

Old Ling was no ordinary man; his movements were not easy to track.

Even if they could be tracked, it was typically concerning official work.

Yet, Old Ling was visiting his son and daughter-in-law’s graves that night, which wasn’t official business. Aside from those close to him, no one else would possibly know. Thus, Third Young Master Jun likely didn’t get his information from governmental contacts.

Third Young Master Jun looked at her with a faint gaze: "Why do you ask?"

Ye Lu paused, not sure herself. After all, what was done was done, and asking now seemed pointless.

And yet, deep in her heart, she harbored a vain, unrealistic hope.
