Chapter 157: Chapter 115: An Invitation from the Security Department

Sang Hanhai hesitated a moment before asking, "Can you be sure? Was the resonance with the Holy Word Stone itself, or with the text inscribed on it?"

’Why this question again...’ Su Chen froze, his guard rising. ’What is Sang Hanhai speculating about?’

He put on a baffled expression. "Wasn’t it the Holy Word Stone? If it were the text, how could I resonate with two different stones one after another?"

"No..." Sang Hanhai shook his head. "Actually, within the Translation Department, another theory has emerged in recent years."

"The symbols inscribed on the Holy Word Stones are likely a Divine Language. It’s just that our own abilities are insufficient to understand it, so we can only resort to analyzing it with more basic languages."

Su Chen blinked, speechless. ’Can’t you people get your story straight? Don’t tell me the lie I’m spinning has to evolve with your latest theories.’

He knew he couldn’t blame the Translation Department, though. They were still exploring many of these things, and overturning old theories was a common occurrence.

"So, you mean..." He didn’t know how to respond, so he simply tossed the question back to him.

"Is it possible that you can actually understand the Divine Language, just only under certain specific conditions?" Sang Hanhai asked tentatively.

Su Chen’s heart skipped a beat. Sang Hanhai’s deduction was dangerously close to the truth. But the one who could understand the Divine Language wasn’t him.

’Hmm... so that means the panel records the Divine Language directly, analyzing it at its most fundamental level. No wonder I can register a Profession with just a glance, no matter how the symbols change.’

"And what would that mean?" Su Chen tossed the question back again.

"I don’t know either..." Sang Hanhai shook his head.

Su Chen: "..."

"I’m not messing with you." Sang Hanhai saw Su Chen’s silent frustration and explained, "No one really knows what it would mean. It could mean you possess some trait of a Divine Spirit, that you’re a natural-born Divine Spirit, or maybe a Divine Son, something along those lines."

"A natural-born Divine Spirit... a Divine Son..." Su Chen felt this was getting more and more absurd. It really proved that classic old saying—

one lie requires countless others to maintain.

Seeing Su Chen’s growing confusion, Sang Hanhai didn’t press the matter. It was enough to have planted the initial seed of the "Divine Language" concept in his mind.

’Since he’s so interested in the Holy Word Stones, he’ll definitely mull it over when he gets back.’

Su Chen adopted a pensive look, then suddenly asked, "Elder Sang, do you happen to know the limit of the Professional Tiers?"

He really wanted to ask about the Morning Star Tier but hadn’t found the right person. Recently, however, his relationship with Sang Hanhai had grown much closer.

This discussion about the Divine Language felt like another step forward in their relationship, so Su Chen couldn’t help but bring it up.

"The limit of the Professional Tiers..." Sang Hanhai gave him a surprised look, though it wasn’t unusual for a young man to be curious about such things. He mused,

"...the most powerful person in Ying Feng is your first-generation Chief Judge, a Tier Eight Professional. One step beyond that is the Morning Star Tier. As for anything higher, I have no idea."

Su Chen’s heart leaped. Sang Hanhai really did know. He couldn’t help but ask, "So the Morning Star Tier is Tier Nine?"

"According to some materials we’ve unearthed, yes. Morning Star... the first-born star of the universe. It’s another name for Tier Nine." Sang Hanhai nodded. "This information isn’t exactly a secret, it just hasn’t been widely disseminated."

"Do we have access to any Morning Star Tier Professions, then?" he pressed.

"You’ve got a lot of questions, kid." Sang Hanhai’s eyes flickered, and he avoided giving a direct answer.

Su Chen grew thoughtful. Sang Hanhai returned to the previous topic. "When the other Holy Word Stone arrives, I’ll let you know. After I finish deciphering this one, I still have some other documents to translate."

That was his cue to leave. Su Chen took the hint. "Thank you for your hard work, then."

Sang Hanhai saw him to the laboratory door and watched him head down the stairs.

’Morning Star Tier is Tier Nine, the first-born star of the universe...’ he mused. ’But compared to the vastness of the cosmos, even a newborn star is as insignificant as a speck of dust.’

’And the Divine Language...’

Having learned so many secrets from Sang Hanhai this time, Su Chen’s mind began to wander. The Translation Department’s theory was very likely the truth.

’If it’s a Divine Language, who wrote it? It couldn’t have been those Ghost Gods, could it?’

’Perhaps... it’s just the language of some advanced civilization, and "Divine Language" is merely a name for it.’ Su Chen shook his head to himself. He couldn’t get caught up in the mystique of the "Divine Language."

A shadow fell over him, but Su Chen didn’t even blink. He simply stepped to the side to let the person pass.

"Su Chen..."

But the person stopped and called out his name.

Su Chen looked up, his expression hardening. It was a middle-aged man with deep-set tear troughs and profound, dark eyes.

He recognized the man: Cheng Lang, one of the deputy ministers of the Inspectorate.

His heart sank. The Judicial Court and the Inspectorate were currently at loggerheads. Running into one of their senior officials was not a good sign.

"What a coincidence. Are you here on official business too, Minister Cheng? Please, go ahead."

Su Chen had no desire to speak with him and shuffled further to the side, making his intentions clear.

"No. I’m here for you," Cheng Lang said, staring straight at him.

Su Chen gathered himself, straightened his spine, and composed his expression. As a Core Seed, his status was equivalent to the Director Level. A director in the Judicial Court was on par with a deputy minister. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

In other words, he and Cheng Lang could theoretically speak as equals. Since the man had made his intentions clear, Su Chen couldn’t afford to seem inferior.

"What do you want?" Su Chen’s voice turned flat.

A flicker of surprise crossed Cheng Lang’s eyes. "Worthy of the Judicial Court’s Core Seed."

"Your flattery is hardly subtle, Minister Cheng," Su Chen said, shaking his head. "Whatever you have to say, just say it."

Cheng Lang paused, taken aback, then decided to get straight to the point. "You’ve been with the Judicial Court for over a month now. You may not have noticed anything, but in the past, every Core Seed has managed to gather a considerable following within their first month."
