Chapter 83: Chapter 83: A Grand Birthday Celebration for Her

The bathroom was filled with steam. Renee slowly crouched down in front of Jack Yates, opening her mouth as wide as she could.

In the instant her red lips met his, Jack Yates grabbed her chin, his eyes deep as an abyss as he stared at her, Adam’s apple bobbing, a low, hoarse voice rumbling from his throat.

"I don’t like forcing things."

Renee tugged at the corner of her lips, speaking softly, "Jack, I don’t feel forced. I want to..."

The rest was too embarrassing to say, so she just leaned in, not bothering to finish her sentence.

Renee’s skin was pale, her lips a subtle pink, full and delicately shaped—classic petal lips, beautiful and sexy, incredibly tempting.

Jack stared at those sexy lips, his gaze growing darker.

This was a scene he’d imagined countless times.

With a pop, like pulling the cork from a wine bottle.

Jack pulled Renee away by grabbing her neck.

The two of them gazed at each other, both out of breath.

Jack picked her up with one arm, gripped her waist and pressed her against the tiled wall, hugging her from behind.

That night, Renee didn’t refuse Jack’s requests for anything.

The kinds of positions she’d never wanted to try before, tonight she accepted them all.

Three a.m.

Renee lay with her head on Jack’s arm, nestling even closer into his embrace.

Jack patted her back gently: "Sleep."

The two of them held each other until morning.

After breakfast, Jack took Renee to play golf.

Renee didn’t know how, so Jack positioned himself behind her, teaching her hand-over-hand.

After golf, Jack chatted with his friends over tea about a new energy project.

Renee sat to the side sipping tea, chatting with Ivy and the others.

IJ: [Kidnapping?]

IJ: [Are you serious?]

IJ: [You’re not joking, right?]

Pomelo: [What happened exactly?]

"Pomelo" was Joyce Pierce’s WhatsApp nickname, while IJ stood for Ivy Jansen.

Not long ago, Renee had changed her nickname—it was now "Renee."

Renee: [There’s something I didn’t tell you guys—I got a boyfriend.]

IJ: [I know.]

Pomelo: [Ivy, don’t interrupt.]

Renee: [He’s Caleb Yates’s uncle—Jack Yates.]

IJ: [...]

Pomelo: [...]

Renee: [Jack’s cousin, yesterday, had someone kidnap me.]

Speaking of the kidnapping, Renee had thought that after what happened, Jack would assign her bodyguards, but he didn’t mention it at all.

Jack hadn’t brought it up, and she felt awkward asking.

But what she didn’t know was, Jack had already secretly arranged protection for her the night before.

After lunch at the resort, in the afternoon Jack took Renee to a private museum to see antique paintings and calligraphy.

Renee looked at the celadon bowl in the glass case and smiled, asking, "Are these real or just replicas?"

Jack leaned down close to her, whispered in her ear, "A bit of both."

After the Dragon Boat Festival, Renee’s classes were back to normal.

After class, Ivy and Joyce pulled her into a quiet corner to ask about the kidnapping again.

Renee: "I might not be able to hang out with you anymore. I’m afraid of dragging you guys into this."

Ivy was shocked: "Has it really gotten so out of hand?"

Joyce frowned: "How did you and Caleb’s uncle even get together?"

Renee: "Last summer, Caleb took me to his house, so I met his uncle then."

Ivy: "Did he force you?"

Renee laughed softly: "Not at all. I was willing. My grandpa was in the hospital and he helped me out. Plus he’s mature and steady. I like mature guys more."

She didn’t say it out loud, but from the bottom of her heart, she really did lean toward the mature and stable type. Caleb, even though he was two years older than her, still felt childish in her eyes.

If Jack weren’t Caleb’s third uncle and didn’t have such a strong need for control, he’d be exactly Renee’s type.

Since deciding to reconcile with Jack, Renee’s whole outlook changed. She really regarded him as her boyfriend, no more hesitating or second-guessing.

When you’re happy, the days just fly by.

Blink and it’s June nineteenth—Renee’s birthday.

Last year, for Renee’s eighteenth birthday, Caleb threw her a party at the Kyoro Grand Hotel and booked a huge luxury private room there.

This year, she wanted to keep things low-key, just have a simple dinner out somewhere with Jack.

But her birthday this year turned out even flashier than last year.

Jack booked the entire Kyoro Grand Hotel just for her, reserving the whole place, and even invited loads of famous singers from all over Greater China—some of whom had been Renee’s idols in high school and middle school.

Renee was surprised and excited, even a little nervous.

She was really touched by Jack, looking at him through tears: "Jack, seriously, why didn’t you tell me in advance?"

Jack smiled: "Would it still be a surprise if I told you?"
