My Possessive CEO: Trembling in His Arms-Chapter 69: Cutting Ties with Jack Yates
On New Year’s Eve, Renee Winslow impulsively deleted Jack Yates. She regretted it the next day. It wasn’t that she couldn’t let go, but she feared.
She feared that if Jack Yates whimsically sent her a message, and he found out she had deleted him...
She dared not imagine how angry Jack would be.
Jack’s anger wasn’t the kind where he would blow up, baring his teeth and shouting at her. Instead, he would look at her calmly, his gaze cold and indifferent, like the perennial snow on mountains, a chill that made one shiver.
Even if he said nothing, his cold and overpowering aura was enough to make her yield.
Moreover, whenever he got angry, he would vent his anger in another way on her, making her physically fearful.
She was genuinely afraid of Jack being angry because she couldn’t handle his rage.
Throughout the New Year, Renee Winslow was burdened with worries, constantly on edge, unable to eat or sleep well. When school resumed, her two roommates had gained weight, but she not only hadn’t gained weight, she had lost over ten pounds.
Her roommates were stunned and asked her what happened? What method did she use to lose weight?
She pretended to be relaxed and said, "Just starving, skip a few meals, and you’ll lose it."
After returning to school, Renee hesitated for a week before finally deciding to return the over two million Jack Yates had given her.
It’s not that she was high-minded, proud, or disdaining money. She loved money very much, but she knew well, that one shouldn’t be too greedy, especially when it comes to Jack Yates.
She didn’t have the nerve to covet Jack’s money, fearing it would bring trouble.
With someone like Jack Yates, when he was good to her, he would unconditionally tolerate her, even spoiling her lavishly. But once he lost interest in her, she dared not think how Jack would treat her, so she couldn’t take this two million.
Furthermore, when she agreed to be with Jack initially, he had already helped her by arranging a hospital and the best doctors for her grandfather and paying tens of thousands for medical expenses. She had no face to ask for this money again.
Taking advantage of a Friday with few classes, Renee hurried to Thatcher Manor before Jack got off work and asked the security personnel at the gate to call out Butler Pierce, handing him the card.
Butler Pierce didn’t take it, just smiled and said, "What are you doing? Mr. Yates gave this to you, you should keep it."
Renee Winslow forced the card into his hand and gracefully said, "Uncle Pierce, please hand this card to Mr. Yates."
After returning the card, Renee took a taxi to the nearest subway station and rode the subway back to school.
Taking a taxi all the way from Thatcher Manor to school was too expensive. She didn’t dare squander money now, opting to save whenever possible.
That evening, when Jack returned to Thatcher Manor from work, Butler Pierce reported, "Sir, Miss Winslow came today."
Jack was unbuttoning his cuffs when he paused at these words, lifting his gaze towards Butler Pierce, speaking indifferently, "Oh? What did she come for?"
Having been by Jack’s side as a butler since he was fourteen, even during his college years and those in service, Butler Pierce managed the household affairs, evolving from a middle-aged to an elderly butler, having some understanding of Jack’s temperament.
Looking at Jack, Butler Pierce could see from his cold and indifferent expression that although his tone was detached, he wasn’t actually angry.
Thus, Butler Pierce continued, "Miss Winslow gave me a card and asked me to pass it to you."
After speaking, Butler Pierce respectfully handed the bank card to Jack.
With a snap—
The stitching on the cufflinks snapped, and the black cufflink fell to the ground.
Butler Pierce clearly saw Jack’s facial muscles tense, his deep and sharp phoenix eyes squinting, his gaze as cold as frost.
He wasn’t angry just now, but he definitely was now.
Without saying a word, Jack took the card, turned, and walked upstairs.
Returning to his bedroom, he saw the pink doll on the bedside table, walked up to it expressionlessly, picked it up, and tossed it into the trash.
The phone rang; it was Simon Forrester calling. Jack answered, "What’s up?"
Simon Forrester chuckled casually, "Can’t I give a call to Third Master Yates for no reason?"
Jack’s voice grew colder, "Speak."
Simon Forrester put away his unserious smile, turning serious, "The Crown Prince from the Blackwood Family in the Docklands is here, and a few of us have arranged a gathering tonight to host him. Do you have time to come?"
Jack replied, "Send me the address."
Simon Forrester said, "It’s over by the stadium, at Grant’s place."
Meanwhile.
Renee had been troubled for a week, her mind unsettled because of a card, finally steeling herself to return it to Jack, allowing her to breathe a sigh of relief.
She thought returning the card meant completely cutting ties with Jack.
Feeling good, she took the initiative to treat her roommates to a meal at The Eastfourth District for hot pot.
After dinner, Ivy suggested going to a bar by the stadium to play. They were already in the second semester of their sophomore year and hadn’t yet been to a bar in that area.
Renee waved her hand, "Let me off. After treating you to hot pot today, I need to eat plain for the next week."
Ivy waved, "I’ll treat, just a drink or two, leave it to me."
Joyce clapped her hands in agreement: "Ivy has spoken, we must go."
The three of them finished their meal and took the subway to the Eastfourth District.
Joyce looked at the bar in front of them, which was as luxurious and grand as a palace, and gasped in awe, saying, "Ivy, you’re so generous!"
Ivy pulled her away: "What are you thinking? This is The Empyrean, the place where the wealthy young masters of The Quadrangle hang out. Even if you sold me, I couldn’t afford it!"
Joyce asked: "Then which place are you taking us to?"
Ivy pointed with her hand: "Over there, Elysian Bar."
Joyce looked at the ordinary bar next door, with even dimmer lights, and remarked: "The contrast is too stark, one is in the heavens and the other underground."
"Let’s go, being able to bring you here is a big splurge for me." Ivy hooked her arm around Renee Winslow’s and led the way inside with her.
As Renee and her friends reached the entrance of Elysian Bar, Simon Forrester and his group happened to be coming out of The Empyrean’s basement.
Simon Forrester was at the front, and unintentionally turned his head, spotting Renee Winslow’s silhouette.
He quickly turned around to look at Jack Yates, who was walking while talking on the phone, and called out, "Third Brother."
Jack Yates looked up at him, said a few short words, and hung up the call.
Simon Forrester nodded forward with his chin: "Third Brother, I think I just saw that girl go into Elysian."
Aiden Grant asked from beside him: "Which girl?"
Simon Forrester chuckled: "Who else, the one by Third Brother’s side."
Aiden Grant raised an eyebrow: "Didn’t they break up?"
Simon Forrester lit a cigarette and said with a meaningful smile: "Does he look like they’ve broken up?"
Jack Yates stepped forward, giving Simon Forrester a cold glance: "Are you too free?"
Simon Forrester didn’t say more and strode into the bar.
Jack Yates didn’t glance sideways, keeping a cold expression as he walked in.
Aiden Grant deliberately lagged a few steps, pulled Ian Lynch aside, and asked in a low voice: "How’s your boss’s mood been lately?"
Ian Lynch covered his face with his hand and whispered: "Let’s just say, going to work every day feels like visiting a grave."
Aiden Grant chuckled and told Ian Lynch: "I’ll go check next door."
Elysian Bar.
Ivy took advantage of a promotion at Elysian to grab a voucher, so she booked a three-person table in the hall’s corner through a group purchase.
If it wasn’t for the promotion, she couldn’t even afford Elysian.
A bar that can open next to The Empyrean cannot be too bad; otherwise, how could it operate in such a prime location?
After the three of them were seated, the waiter brought up the drinks.
Renee Winslow sat in an armchair by the aisle, sipping a small mouthful of an orange fizzy cocktail, which made her frown immediately.
The alcohol content wasn’t high, but for someone like her who rarely drank, it was still a bit strong.
Ivy picked up a glass of Aperol Spritz, shook it playfully twice, and smiled, raising her glass: "Cheers."
Renee Winslow also raised her glass and was about to clink glasses with Ivy and Joyce when someone tapped her on the shoulder.
The three of them froze.
Renee Winslow turned around to see a man in a floral shirt with an earring in his left ear and a jade green thumb ring.
The man smiled and said: "Hey there, can I buy you a drink, little sister?"
Renee Winslow was about to refuse when Aiden Grant entered, walked straight up, and patted the man on the back with a smile: "Hey, who does Second Young Master Quinn want to buy a drink for?"
Ivan Quinn recognized Aiden Grant but wasn’t intimidated; he laughed as he adjusted the loose collar of his shirt, speaking with a roguish tone: "I want to buy a drink for the lady, isn’t your business, Master Grant."
Aiden Grant nodded: "Mm, not my business, but Third Master Yates might care."
Ivan Quinn paused, laughing: "Oh? Really?"
Aiden Grant directly called Jack Yates, handing the phone to Ivan Quinn: "Second Young Master Quinn, if you don’t believe it, you can ask yourself."
After speaking, Aiden Grant signaled the bar manager to stop the music.
Inside the bar, silence suddenly fell.
The call connected, and Jack Yates’s low, cold voice came through: "What’s the matter?"
Aiden Grant put the call on speaker and said directly: "Second Young Master Quinn wants to buy Renee Winslow a drink, do you agree, Third Brother?"
