My Pet Beast is Super Fearsome-Chapter 670 - 37: Pioneer
Chapter 670: Chapter 37: Pioneer
"Hiss~"
The bloodthirsty wolf spider, with its scarlet-red eyes, moved its eight long legs, leaping back and forth between the European-style buildings on either side of the street. Its sharp forelimbs pierced into the walls, each leap scattering large chunks of debris into the air.
Not far from the street where the incident occurred, more than ten men dressed in black trench coats stood atop a small building, lead by a middle-aged man with an average build and ordinary appearance.
The men behind him, at that moment, watched with various expressions the people being dragged out from the buildings and slaughtered by the bloodthirsty wolf spiders. Further back were a dozen or so mutant creatures, either squatting or lying down, mostly the common types seen during the Great Summer.
Among the crowd, a skinny teenager couldn’t help but say, "Boss, are we violating the ’Pioneers’ Convention’ by doing this...?"
"Hmm?"
The middle-aged leader suddenly turned his head, his eyes like a hawk’s, fixating on the skinny teenager. The people behind him tactfully cleared a path, fully exposing the boy to everyone’s view.
The middle-aged man, holding a cigarette in his hand, slowly and leisurely approached the teenager: "Whose man are you?"
The skinny teenager, shivering visibly under his ill-fitting trench coat, kept his head low and did not dare to look directly at the middle-aged man. A huskily built young man nearby stepped forward: "Boss, he’s still young, let me teach him a lesson when we get back."
Speaking, he signaled to his companions with his eyes, instructing them to take the teenager away.
"Hold on," the middle-aged man said, his face displeased as he looked at the young man: "Did I ask you?"
The husky young man shivered, and his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down several times: "Boss, I..."
Thud.
"Ah!!"
With a dull thud of hitting the ground, the husky young man screamed in agony, clutching his knees. Not far behind him, a man with a scarred face was wiping the blood off his knife.
The middle-aged man gestured, and two agile members picked up the young man and dragged him before him.
"Two things," the middle-aged man said, pinching the cigarette butt and taking a deep drag: "First, I hate when people look down on me, I’ll spare your life this time because you’re new."
"Second, you should remember, there’s no ’Pioneers’ Convention’ here." The middle-aged man suddenly pressed the still-lit cigarette butt onto the young man’s face, listening to the sizzling sound and the screams of agony, his face displaying a look of enjoyment.
The middle-aged man slowly let go, leaving the cigarette butt on the young man’s twisted face. He turned nonchalantly to look at the trembling teenager, his voice soft: "I make the rules here, got it?"
The teenager lowered his head deeply and said tremblingly, "Got it...got it."
Meanwhile, a man in the crowd pressed his ear and listened for a while, then quickly stepped forward and whispered a few words into the middle-aged man’s ear.
The middle-aged man turned abruptly, his eyes wild as he asked, "Is the news true?"
"Yes...yes, we just received word that the ’Duke’ had met with a dancer at a ’Pioneers’ relay station a few days ago, and even arranged for her to receive an ’Awakening Potion’ from Great Summer."
The middle-aged man murmured, "Awakening Potion, huh?"
This stuff wasn’t clearly good or bad; to the people of Great Summer, every citizen eligible by age could apply for the potion. However, due to its compatibility issues, this potion was very rare outside of Great Summer and fetched exorbitant prices on the black market.
The middle-aged man swept his gaze over every face present: "Everyone, immediately send your pets to join the search; we need to find that dancer before anyone else."
"Yes!"
"Roar!"
Before long, over a dozen pets had leapt down from the upper floors, wreaking havoc on the rooftops along the street.
...
Boom!
The wall suddenly burst open, creating a large hole as a violent gust enveloped sand, stones, and furniture, swirling them chaotically inside the room. The collapsing beams crashed down onto the floor, cracking the exquisite tiles and striking the walls with a sharp cracking sound.
In a corner of the room, Anna clutched her sister Diana, huddling together. Her hand firmly covered her sister’s mouth and nose, her face filled with terror as she watched the hole intently.
In the midst of the smoke and dust, eight crimson eyes flickered continuously. Then, sharp spider legs squeezed through the broken hole, searching around the room for something.
Anna held her breath, her pale face covered in cold sweat. She watched as the spider legs, covered in black bristles and thick with the scent of blood, brushed by in front of her, nearly causing her to vomit.
But Anna knew she absolutely couldn’t make any sound. The Holy Origin Society’s Blood-sucking Tarantulas had poor eyesight, yet their sensing abilities were extremely strong. Any slight movement could expose them.
Curled up in Anna’s arms, Diana’s little face turned bright red, her small hands tightly twisted together, yet she dared not disturb Anna even slightly.
Finally, when the Bloodthirsty Wolf Spider failed to find anything, it retracted its limbs and hissed as it climbed towards the next building.
Anna, relieved, gasped for breath, "Diana, we’re safe... Diana, Diana!!"
Diana’s face pale, she slowly opened her eyes amidst the severe shaking, weakly raising her small hand to wipe the tears from Anna’s face. "Don’t cry, sister, Diana... Diana is alright."
Anna held Diana tightly in her arms, her shoulders shaking violently. The years of repeated narrow escapes had worn her out. In these gloomy, uncertain days with no sight of the future, her sister Diana was her only reason to keep going. But now, she was really on the brink of collapse.
Clap clap clap!
Accompanied by a measured clapping, a stranger’s voice echoed in the room, "What deep sisterly love."
Suddenly standing up, Anna protectively tucked Diana behind her like a mother hen. She looked around, alert, and saw a mess in the room and an unfamiliar Eastern man. He was wearing a black trench coat, black leather gloves, and was followed by a cunning Netherworld Leopard Cat.
The man in the trench coat picked up a stool, dusted it off, and sat down with an unconcerned air, scrutinizing the sisters with his gaze, "Anna?"
Anna’s heart tightened, she took a deep breath and feigned calmness, "Are you ’Pioneer’ sir?"
The trench coat man didn’t answer immediately but studied Anna’s heavily made-up face seriously, "Aren’t you afraid of me?"
Anna showed a puzzled expression, "Why should I be afraid of you, Sir Pioneer? Aren’t you here to protect us, sent by the Great Xia?"
The man paused, then burst out laughing.
After a while, he wiped away the tears of laughter with his hand, "Right, I’m here to protect you. Now, there’s something I need your help with."
"I heard that the ’Duke’ had contacted you before and even gave you an ’Awakening Potion’?" The man looked at Anna with interest, "Tell me the whereabouts of the ’Duke’ and hand over the ’Awakening Potion’ to me, and I can assure that you both will not die."
Anna’s pupils constricted at his words. She looked back at the young Diana, forcing a flirtatious smile on her face, pulled out a purplish-red potion from her lining, and said pitifully, "’Pioneer’ sir, can you really protect us sisters?"
(PS: The temperature in the Huanghuai Region has dropped suddenly; everyone, please keep warm and don’t catch a cold like me =.=)
