Chapter 81: Chapter 81 Navigating

Kristina used to be a nurse. She might even help me with the medication. How convenient.

I quickly kissed her. "I’m not leaving. I’m staying here forever, okay?"

She smiled again. "That’s what you said."

She got up and said, "I’ll go next door to get the bed ready for you."

Seeing the faint smile on her face, I suddenly felt like I might have fallen into her trap. But since things had come this far, I might as well just go along with it.

"Kristina, I’m going to call the caregiver and tell them I won’t be back tonight."

Kristina nodded, and I went to the balcony to call Mary.

The phone rang for more than twenty seconds before she answered.

"Hello, William. I’m at a dinner party with Edward and some leaders. So I might not be back early tonight."

Her voice was hushed, and I could faintly hear Edward and others talking in the background.

"Oh, it’s fine. I can’t stay at the hospital anymore, so I won’t be going back tonight. You don’t need to come either. I’ve told the doctor, and I can be discharged after the IV drip tomorrow morning."

"What? You’re leaving? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?"

"It doesn’t matter whether I tell you now or then. You didn’t sleep well last night, right? You can rest well tonight."

I chuckled.

"Hmph, it’s all your fault!"

Mary said, "Then I’ll come to pick you up tomorrow morning."

"No need. I can handle the discharge myself tomorrow. I’ll come see you over the weekend," I said.

After exchanging a few more words, the background noise grew louder, and then she hung up.

I originally thought I’d have to do a lot of talking.

Scarcely had I hung up when Lillian phoned. "William, aren’t you at the hospital?"

"I have something to do tonight, so I won’t be going back to the hospital. What’s the matter? Are you at the hospital?" I asked.

"Yeah, I brought you some chicken soup, and I brewed it personally!"

Damn, that’s incredibly thoughtful.

I suddenly had a headache. I couldn’t let her take the chicken soup back, could I?

"Okay, please forward your address. I’ll come over and get it!"

’Forward it? It’s better not, or I wouldn’t know how to explain it later.’

"That would be too much trouble for you. I’ll come over. Wait for me!" I replied.

After the call, Kristina had finished preparing the bed and came out, asking, "Where are you going?"

"I’m going to the hospital. Someone is coming to see me. I’ll be back soon."

"Would you like me to come with you?" Kristina asked.

"No need, you stay home with Lily."

She nodded and handed me the Mercedes key, saying, "Take my car!"

I didn’t waver. I kissed her and said, "Just be good and wait for me at home."

Maybe because I had money in my pocket, that feeling of being kept diminished a lot. It was no wonder they said money gave men courage. It was absolutely true.

I arrived at the hospital in the Mercedes to find Lillian sitting at the bedside, idly flicking through her phone. "My apologies for making you wait," I said.

"You’re here. Come and try the chicken soup," Lillian said.

I nodded, lifted the lid, and the aroma was strong, but upon taking a sip, I almost choked.

Damn, how much sugar did she put in? It was sweeter than eating sugar directly.

Seeing my expression, she quickly asked, "What’s wrong? Is it not good?"

I touched my nose and said, "It’s good, just a little too sweet!"

She took a sip, her face immediately wrinkling. "Oh, why is it so sweet? I followed the recipe step by step."

’She made it herself? I was taken aback.’

No wonder she was looking at me with such anticipation just now. But now she seemed quite disappointed. "How can you eat something so sweet? Don’t eat it. I’ll make you a new one!"

Seeing her so upset, I felt a pang of guilt. "Wait, I’ve got an idea."

I poured a glass of boiling water and then rinsed the chicken in the water, reducing its sweetness.

Using this method, I managed to finish it.

She was deeply moved and exclaimed, "William, you’re so kind!"

I patted my full stomach and said, "You’re the one who’s truly kind!"

Then, we shared a smile.

"Oh, I’ll come pick you up tomorrow when you’re discharged."

After saying that, she happily left with the container.

Returning to the community, it was already 9:30 PM. Lily was already asleep, and Kristina was wearing a purple silk nightgown, applying body lotion on the sofa.

Her flowing dark hair was scattered around. The scene was simply beautiful.

"You’re back. I put your clothes in the bathroom, and you can take a shower directly," she said.

I nodded and quickly walked into the bathroom. Kristina’s discarded clothes were piled next to it.

A black lace bra with a few strands playfully loose, caught my eye. Seeing it evoked a sudden feeling within me.

I couldn’t help but pick it up and fiddle with it, Kristina’s scent still lingering on it.

I thought of the intimate clothing Jessica sent me, and it seemed like I hadn’t paid attention to her for a day or two.

That wouldn’t do. It took so much effort to get her interested. What if she lost patience?

That was the thing about online romance: it flared up fast, and fizzled out just as quickly!

After some thought, I swiftly logged into my alternate account.

As expected, Jessica and Melody had sent me a lot of messages.

I didn’t have time to deal with Melody. She was already hooked in real life, and I intended to downplay my influence online. Otherwise, I felt like I was cheating on myself.

Jessica’s messages were all about how much she missed me, and then there were some intimate photos.

Jessica: [My dear, have you forgotten about me?]

Her latest message, sent half an hour ago, showed her drinking alone.

Jessica: [I never thought I’d be drowning my sorrows in alcohol!]

After some thought, I directly made a video call.

The bathroom, designed with dry and wet separation and excellent soundproofing, provided the perfect cover. The sound of water droplets could cover up the noise.

Although it was a bit unfair to Kristina, I couldn’t give up on my previous efforts.

After about ten seconds, Jessica answered the video call.

In the video, her face was flushed, her eyes slightly hazy. "Darling, you’ve finally found me!"

I changed my voice, using a magnetic tone, saying, "Silly, don’t overthink. Didn’t I say I’ve been busy lately? How could I bear to ignore you?"

She pouted slightly, tears welling up. "You haven’t been paying much attention to me lately, and I thought you hated me."

"How could that be!" I comforted. "Come on. Stop crying. Shall we play some fun games together to make up for it?"
