Chapter 146: Tickle

"Fuck this shit, you know?"

No one had expected her to burst out like that, but it wasn’t uncalled for either.

It was a valid reason to crash out, according to Aaron at least.

And in all honesty, her plan wasn’t bad at all.

In his eyes, it was the most practical plan.

Better than choosing the very guild that caused this, at the very least.

He knew that Buzznet was playing the emotional support act, behaving like they care about their tiny little group by recruiting all 6 of them.

But they all knew that was nothing but complete bullshit.

No one wanted deadweight and Buzznet wasn’t dumb enough to want the deadweight either.

It was their technique to rope them in first and then begin the work on separation once the contracts were signed and legalities were already in their favour.

That’s how the corporate world worked, everyone for their own and searching for profits.

"Kate, that’s a heavy decision you’re trying to make. I suggest you at least wait till we hear other offers and then decide." Claire said quietly, breathing a deep sigh.

"And for what, dear leader?" Katie snarled, "So they tell me I am unfit and undeserving of the position I’m trynna get into?"

She took a pause before scoffing, "No thanks."

"You’re going to leave us just like this?" Eva asked while staring into Katie’s eyes.

Katie’s anger levels began to drop, her breathing getting slower as she sighed, "I don’t really have a choice. I would rather not make you all feel like me staying here is leading you to making a suboptimal choice."

"SuBoPtImAl, she says." Jaq mimicked the word with sarcasm, "Taking some vocabulary courses now, are we?"

"Unlike you, I actually studied in my school time, missy."

"Ah, so educated and knowledgeable." Jaq moved closer, her lips curled into a cold, mocking smirk, "And yet, it’s you who’s spouting such retarded ideas out here."

Katie pushed Jaq away, grumbling some curses under her breath.

However, equally childish and triggered, Jaq didn’t take the action kindly as she shoved Katie in her chest backwards with a larger force. The latter was sent stumbling onto the hotel’s bed.

Her ankle collided with the wood and she fell head first into the soft mattress.

"That’s it!" Katie roared in anger as she jumped out of the bed, swinging a fist directly at Jaq.

With an easy swerve of her neck, Jaq moved out of the trajectory before throwing an uppercut into Katie’s chin.

"You don’t even tickle me with your weak strength, Jaq." Katie spat onto the side, making Lia’s nose curl in disgust but not interfering.

"Is that so?" Jaq plucked a pair of sharp, feather shaped daggers out of her waist pouch, sliding out their cold, metallic blades into the open.

Light seemed to reflect against the blades impeccably, "Then let me tickle you with some feathers, bitch." She hissed.

"I’ll slice off the feathers and cook you into a leg piece before you can do anything, arrogant bitch." Katie was also prepared for the fight, despite there being more than the 99% chances for Jaq to win.

"Enough." Claire said, releasing some of her suppressed aura, "Stop fighting as if you’re kids." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Immediately Katie and Jaq dropped their scuffle, with the latter clicking her tongue and storing back her daggers.

Once the small fight was settled, the topic shifted back onto Katie and her random yet surprising news of dropping out of the team.

"I won’t pretend to be a hypocrite and tell you that your idea was wrong or something," Lia smiled and began, patting Katie on her shoulder, "Since I too thought of the same thing as you, just I wasn’t gutsy enough to say it directly."

Katie parted her lips but no word came out, her eyes focused onto Lia’s as she nodded in understanding.

"Ayo, Lia you want to meet the tickle monster too now?" Jaq however, didn’t take Lia’s statement calmly.

"Ahem." Claire coughed from the side, glaring at Jaq. It was more like a warning of sorts, telling the hotheaded rogue to not pick up another fight.

Though her worries were misplaced since a person capable of fighting with Lia couldn’t be normal.

As she was the calmest and most patient one of the group, closely followed by Eva.

Lia simply smiled at Jaq’s threat, patting the rogue on her shoulder, "Hey, we’re still gonna be friends."

"Ugh, that’s why I hate fame. This is what that shit does, fuck! It did it to my mom and now it’s coming back to ruin my friendship." Jaq slapped away Lia’s hand before storming out of the hotel room.

Lia, Claire, Eva, all of them tried to call out to her but she didn’t seem to stop.

As if she only wanted to leave as quickly as possible.

Aaron didn’t try to stop her, but his ears did twitch at her last statement.

She said something related to her mother ruining due to the fame, or something similar.

Whatever it was, Aaron could understand slightly why she hated the stardom and fame.

Though he had to admit that she was good at keeping it in, since she didn’t let it show at any single moment except now.

Due to Lia and Katie’s abrupt and undecided decision as well as Jaq’s departure, the ’meeting’ had to be adjourned for later as Eva and Claire returned to their room alongside Aaron.

It also allowed Lia and Katie to have some personal time to make up their mind completely.

In the room, Eva locked the door shut after herself, sighing deeply when she did.

"Well, that went well." She said with an oozing sarcasm.

"Could’ve been worse." Claire commented calmly, walking towards a mini fridge in the room and taking out a few cans of chilled beer, tossing one to Aaron and Eva before popping one open for herself.

"Could’ve gone better too." Eva said, grumbling.

"Well, there are always two sides of the coin." Claire let out a humourless laugh, moving to Aaron and clinking her beer to his unopened can.

"Ah, thanks." He said absentmindedly, his mind half focused on the buzzing phone in his pocket.

Since he placed it on silent, there barely was a moment of reprieve when the little bugger did not buzz.

Claire seemed to notice it as well, sliding her hand through his waist and fishing out the phone before checking it.

"Oh damn, I’m cooked. My mother-in-law is the worrisome kind." She said with a chuckle, trying to make light of the situation.

"You might be interchanging the mom and dad here." Aaron chuckled back.

"Am I?" She smiled, "Do you remember who is more worrisome then?"

He froze, lowering his head with a deep sigh.

"You know I don’t."

Eva patted his back from the behind, "You can’t keep avoiding the call though. Who all called recently?"

Claire checked the phone again, "13 from mother, 17 from Sis Ariana, 2 from dad and lastly, 1 from Adrian. Damn, the whole family’s missing you together."

"Funny." Aaron took back the phone, looking at the two before settling onto Claire who seemed to smirk when seeing the look in his eyes.

"Well, if you’ll be so kind as to fill me in about the details I should know about and who to talk to first." he sighed.

"Hmm, I would say you can talk to Aria first. I have met her before once, she’s a mature and nice girl." Claire answered after a brief moment of thought.

"That’s only the answer to my second request."

"Well your first request is quite broad isn’t it? What do you really want to know about?"

"Obviously how I should behave so I don’t get caught that I am well, amnesiac? Is that the right term for my condition?"

"Possibly." Eva nodded calmly, just telling the two that she also existed.

And it wasn’t her fault that she was unable to talk much about the current topics, since she wasn’t knowledgeable about Aaron’s familial dynamics.

Hell, she didn’t even know he had a little brother!

Claire sighed, "Okay, long tale." she murmured, going into a slight story telling mode.

Which was just another name for her dumping the whole lore onto Aaron without trying to make it particularly exciting or interesting.

In her eyes, as long as the knowledge is conveyed, that’s all that matters.

Thus even if boring, the story was important for Aaron to understand who his family really was.

Ignoring the family has never been a great option.

"So you’re born out of the love of Selyne Cross and Luke, I don’t know what his surname was before marriage, and also I think I used the term love lightly since the marriage was purely based on profits and stuff, as far as what you told me.

According to you, your mom’s family was quite rich while your dad was handsome, and his family also held rights to something that your mother’s family wanted.

Thus the marriage was fina–"

"Can we talk about the important topic please..."
