My Kingdom Building Done Right!-Chapter 84: Limit Break [EX] [Part 2]
Gundar might be old, but he had gained experience from the countless battles he had fought throughout his life.
Although he might be surprised by the stone pillar’s appearance, he was able to take a step back before his arm was hit by it.
Leone then shot past the stone pillar and unleashed a barrage of punches and kicks against the old man, which the latter simply evaded.
The young man’s kicks and punches were amateur at best, so dodging them posed no challenge.
But after receiving Leone’s blows a few times, the shaman quickly realized that the young man didn’t fight like a warrior. He was more similar to battle mages.
He even summoned a stone parapet behind Gundar, perhaps intending to trip his opponent, who was backing away from his attacks.
But the old man’s spiritual sensitivity was very high. The moment he sensed something was about to appear behind his back, he immediately stomped his foot on the ground, resulting in a shockwave that blew Leone away from him.
The young man rolled a few times on the ground before coming to a complete stop.
Gundar wasn’t too worried about him, confident about his control over his strength. At most, Leone had just fainted from the impact of his blow.
A few minutes later, Leone finally opened his eyes. He looked around him with a frown.
"What happened?" Leone asked the old Shaman, who was standing beside him with arms crossed over his chest.
"You successfully fell into a trance after using Self Hypnosis," Gundar replied with a look of amazement. "I’ve never seen anyone learn this skill so fast. Just who are you, Leone?"
The young man slowly propped himself up from the ground and dusted his clothes.
"Just a handsome young noble," Leone replied. "One blessed with wits, talent, charisma, unmatched intelligence, overwhelming presence, impeccable judgment, natural leadership, refined elegance, irresistible charm, heroic disposition, peerless grace, and most importantly... humility."
Gundar eyed the young man from head to toe, wondering which part of his body hid that imperceptible humility. Sensing the old man’s probing gaze, Leone coughed lightly before listing two more good traits that he possessed.
"I forgot that I’m also humble and modest," Leone added.
This time, the corner of the old shaman’s lips twitched. If someone like Leone were humble and modest... There was no longer any hope for humanity.
"Anyway, you have mastered a skill that many cannot use until they have found a deeper understanding of themselves," Gundar said in a serious tone. "Just remember that you must not use this skill often. Reserve it as a last resort.
"Also, you should train in martial arts. I saw your tribe members practicing some kind of spear art. Why aren’t you training with them? Your fighting prowess during your self hypnosis will become better once your body gets used to wielding a weapon."
Leone scratched the back of his head. He couldn’t really find time to train recently. The production of the armor and weapons he intended to equip his warriors required his supervision, therefore keeping him busy.
"I-I’ll train starting tomorrow," Leone promised.
"Good." Gundar nodded. "Once you reach a certain level in your martial arts, I’m sure your self hypnosis skill will be more effective."
The old man then glanced at the warriors who were paying close attention to them earlier.
At first, the warriors thought that their Great Chieftain and Gundar were having an argument, which spiraled into a fight.
They were about to help Leone when they noticed that Gundar had done nothing but evade his attacks.
Thinking the two had been sparring, they decided to observe temporarily. But when Gundar had unleashed a shockwave that blew Leone away, the warriors felt anxious.
Before they could move, Gundar had gestured in their direction, telling them that everything was alright. So, they waited.
When Leone finally regained consciousness, they could finally sigh in relief.
"You should probably tell your men that you’re fine," Gundar said calmly. "They looked worried and flocked around us when you suddenly started attacking me."
Leone glanced at his warriors and waved at them.
"Guys, I’m fine," Leone shouted. "Great Uncle and I were just training together!"
Since Leone had personally confirmed that they were indeed training, they went back to their own thing, inspired by what they saw earlier.
"Leone, there’s one more thing I believe you should know about the self hypnosis skill," Gundar stated. "If by any chance you see a door or a gate when you activate this skill, do not open it."
"Is the gate dangerous, Great Uncle?" Leone inquired.
"The short answer is yes," Gundar replied. "But there are special exceptions. That gate represents something that sleeps deep within your subconscious mind. You can think of it as a secret power that resides within your spirit.
"In the past, many of those who tried to open these doors had gone crazy. No one knows what kind of entity lurked behind those doors, but it’s suspected that they had attempted to take over their host’s body.
"You can trust me when I say it’s true because I’ve experienced it once in my life. Ever since that day... I stopped using the self hypnosis skill. I feared I’d meet that entity again." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
The old man’s hand trembled as if he were reliving a memory he didn’t want to remember.
Understanding that Gundar was serious, Leone kept his advice to heart and decided to be more careful when using the self hypnosis skill.
"If it makes you feel any better, Great Uncle, I didn’t see a door when I used self hypnosis," Leone said calmly.
"That’s because you haven’t used it long enough," Gundar warned. "When you use this skill over and over again, your subconscious mind starts to open up. Then, that door will appear.
"There’s a chance that the entity behind that door won’t be hostile to you, but it’s more probable that they’ll take over your body. So don’t ever open that door. Don’t risk it. Do you understand?"
"Even if my life depends on it?" Leone inquired.
"That..." Gundar couldn’t give a definite answer. When he had opened that door years ago, a malevolent creature emerged, and he had to fight it inside his Sea of Consciousness. He won in the end, and only then was he freed from its control.
It was one of the scariest things he had ever experienced. Even now.
Although he managed to send the creature back to where it came from and shut the door firmly in place, his soul still got injured and took an entire year to fully recover.
"Listen to me carefully," Gundar said in a grave tone. "That door is not something you can simply close once it is opened. Whatever lies beyond it, it will know you. It will remember you.
"It will entice you by making promises. That it won’t hurt you or anyone precious to you. Never trust it. Don’t listen to that voice. Don’t reply to it. Don’t let it tempt you. Don’t let it fool you."
Leone frowned. "And if I don’t open that door?"
"Then it cannot cross over to your Sea of Consciousness," Gundar replied. "And you won’t have to worry about an unknown being taking over your body."
The young man nodded, hoping it would make the old man stop worrying about him. But deep inside, a small seed of curiosity took root.
A seed that unexpectedly made the two beings lying dormant within his soul stir a little from their sleep.
