Chapter 70: We Are Going All The Way!

Three days had passed since Jason and seventy-seven members of the former Black Wolf Tribe had become Aslanians.

All of them were hard at work supporting their Great Chieftain, acting as his hands and feet.

Maximus was happy because he had gained some new friends who helped him dig tunnels that would allow them to travel out of the mountain range more easily.

Leone was very curious about what could be seen at the eastern edge of the Borderlands, and Maximus took this task seriously.

While everyone was busy, Leone and his other vassals gathered to discuss how they would tackle his eighth mission.

"Frankly, I don’t think using the Rare Blueprint to unlock an Uncommon Blueprint is cost effective," Daedalus said calmly. "But an Uncommon Blueprint costs 500 BP and a Rare Blueprint costs 2,000 BP.

"If we choose to unlock the Rare Armor that can be mass produced, our main problem will be gathering the materials."

Daedalus had already shown everyone the type of Rare Armor Blueprints they could unlock.

Leone wanted his people to wear light-weight metal armor so they would be decently protected without sacrificing their mobility.

But the problem was collecting the materials. A low quality rare armor required iron ores that would be converted to iron ingots.

The good quality ones were made from steel ingots. In order to create iron and steel ingots, they would need to gather iron ores first, and they would need a lot of them.

"We can also choose the Rare Leather Armor Blueprint," Kael commented. "We can hunt beasts. If we combine their pelts with some iron ingots, we can make the Reinforced Studded Armor. That is a good alternative if we cannot get enough iron. It offers decent protection as well."

"Maximus and the other miners get iron ores randomly as they dig through the mountain. But we can’t really rely on that method to create a stockpile," Daedalus stated. "Therefore, why don’t we try a different method?"

"A different method?" Leone arched an eyebrow. "And that is?"

"Do any of you know what a magnet is?" Daedalus asked.

"Of course," Leone replied. "Magnets attract iron and some other kinds of metals, right?"

"Right." Daedalus nodded. "So this is my recommendation. Let’s purchase at least ten magnets from the Arcane Store.

"They cost 30 BP, so we will spend 300 BP to buy ten. Then we will ask the Riverfang Tribe to gather iron from the rivers. All they need to do is put the magnets down to attract the iron sand.

"After that, I’ll absorb it and turn it into iron ingots. Then we just heat them up and add some coal. I’ll absorb the mix and turn it into steel ingots."

Leone blinked. There were too many shortcuts involved. If the blacksmiths of the Kingdom of Britannia ever learnt about this method of making steel ingots, they would surely flip their work benches.

They painstakingly worked iron ores into ingots with their blood, sweat and tears.

Meanwhile, all Leone needed to do was to let Daedalus handle it, and he could get iron and steel ingots?

That was definitely a win-win situation for him. Hurrah for shortcuts!

"Very well, let’s purchase the magnets!" Leone went with this plan without hesitation. It might take them a few days to gather enough iron sand to be converted to iron ingots, but this would offer better protection for their warriors.

Everyone was taking this mission seriously because it might be a warning of what was about to come. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Are we only going to finish the main missions?" Ulric asked.

"Of course not," Leone replied. "We are going all the way! We will prepare 10,000 arrows and give our beast mounts armor."

Leone had seen the Heavy Knight Cavalry of the kingdom. Their horses also wore armor, which made them look very intimidating. This also protected them from arrows whenever they did a frontal charge against their enemies.

If he could incorporate that into his own forces, then that would only increase their chances of survival.

But there was one problem.

The Barbarians weren’t used to wearing full-plate armors like knights. They preferred to get up close and personal with their enemies, so they prioritized mobility over heavy armor.

After receiving this feedback, Leone and his vassals came to a decision.

They would purchase the Rare Blueprint of the Ironfang Raider Armor.

This armor was made from hardened leather with steel plates on its chest and shoulders. It also had studs on its forearms and thigh area, protecting key areas without sacrificing mobility.

Ulric even asked Daedalus if it could modify his armor to have steel pikes on the shoulders so that he could inflict more damage when he rammed into enemies.

Daedalus said that it could customize the armor to fit Ulric’s idea, but the materials needed would increase as well.

Leone didn’t mind the added cost since Ulric was a Berserker. Every part of him was used in battle, so if his armor was just as deadly as his axe, it would make him more effective in battle.

The young man had already chosen to buy the Rare Blueprint of the Ironspine War Spear, which would become the standard weapon of his mounted cavalry.

Daedalus also advised him to use the 50% Discount Ticket he had received as a reward to buy the Rare Martial Skill, Heaven Piercer Spear Arts, which cost 5,000 BP.

But due to the discount ticket, he could get it at only 2,500 BP.

Although this would eat up a good chunk of Leone’s BP, it was an investment that would allow everyone, including the ladies, to learn the skill if they studied it.

This spear art had nine forms. Once someone mastered all nine forms, the grade of this spear art would reach the Legendary Rank.

Buying the rare skill book of Heaven Piercer Spear Arts would unlock its first two forms, which were Heaven’s Thrust and Heaven’s Swing.

Daedalus told Leone that this Martial Skill was special because only those who served him would be able to learn it.

Even if the enemy tried to copy the forms of this spear technique, they wouldn’t be able to unleash its full potential.

Why?

Because this Spear Art came with its own breathing technique. Only those who read the skill book would know about it. It couldn’t be copied either because the information would be sent directly to their brain!

It could also not be taught to others. Those who tried to do so would forget the breathing technique instantly. With that penalty in place, no one could be persuaded to share the technique.

Some martial arts were like that. This was why even though the Martial Skill was a bit expensive, Daedalus still recommended it to Leone. The other forms could be unlocked if he bought the Super Rare version of it.

The only saving grace was that due to the increase in his number of subjects, as well as the squirrels becoming Blitz’s subordinates, he could now passively get 97 BP per day!

"Okay, everyone, let’s focus on gathering the materials to make our armor and spears!" Leone declared. "Mobilize all the hunters to hunt, and turn the excess meat to beef jerky."

Salt was a commodity that could only be bought from traveling merchants who dared to go to the Borderlands.

The Barbarians usually traded animal pelts for salt and other items that they deemed useful, like spices.

The traders were more than happy to accept such exchanges because the barbarians were very good at making beast pelts, which they sometimes used as clothing.

Fortunately, Leone didn’t need to look for these merchants because the Grimjaw Mountain had rock salt.

In fact, whenever Daedalus absorbed the rocks that the miners set aside during their digging, it was able to separate rock salt from them.

This was why Leone had enlisted Maximus to be a permanent miner when it wasn’t busy with guard duties.

Now that he had unlocked the blueprints for armor and spear and bought a Martial Skill for his warriors, Leone felt a little more confident that his people would be able to face whatever challenges were waiting for them.

Although he was feeling a bit anxious because his eighth mission was hinting at a future confrontation, the only thing he could do was to do his best with the resources that he currently possessed.

When the meeting ended, Kael returned to his tribe and assigned a team to gather iron sand from the river.

Surprisingly, he assigned Runa to be part of the team because her mount, Porkchop, would be useful in carrying the iron sand back to their base.

Meanwhile, the warriors were asked to head to the cliff in batches so they could read the Martial Skill Book, Heaven Piercer Spear Arts, one by one.

Most of them wielded axes and swords, but they were self-taught. Now that they could get to learn a legitimate martial skill, Leone believed that their fighting prowess would increase by leaps and bounds.

Once the warriors were finished, every other member of the tribes would be given the opportunity to read the martial skill book.

This meant that everyone, including the women, children, and the elderly, would have a means to defend themselves in case of emergencies.
