Chapter 177: Concealment

A/N: I made some mistakes in the previous Chapter regarding this training’s format. Please reread it before starting this Chapter.

It was only now that the test had begun that they all got to know how tough it truly was.

With only a few dry shrubs, trees and cactuses as cover, they had to traverse almost four kilometres worth of distance without being sighted by Brown.

They stayed still. Worried that the person Brown’s scope was zooming towards now was them.

This constant tension kept them on edge, and they didn’t dare to move.

’Fuck! If it stays like this then I’ll never move!’ Frustrated, Shadow decided to rush towards a big cactus around fifty meters away from him.

’It’s not like he could keep an eye out on all four of us at once.’ With this thought, he raised his confidence and rushed towards the cactus at full speed.

The moment his body left the sand mounds cover a feeling that Brown would shoot him the next second gnawed his mind.

"Hah! I did it!" Shadow cheered for himself while taking in deep breaths. Just covering fifty meters felt like a huge victory to him.

’He must be focused in another direction,’ With a gleeful smile Shadow took a step forward, his aim this time a group of stones large enough to hide his crouched body.

BANG!

A shot left Brown’s barrel and zapped through the air. Traversing several kilometres it finally hit its target.

"Oh, it was just a snake’s tail," Brown chuckled and focused back on finding them.

’Who was it? Who got shot?!’ Shadow thought as he became nervous once again.

Similar thoughts crossed everyone else’s minds as well and their tension heightened.

Not wanting to take any more risks, Shadow settled down on his spot behind the cactus and waited.

As for Jin, the moment he heard the second gunshot, he bolted for a shrub more than two hundred meters away from him.

He used swift steps for the first hundred meters and reverted to sprinting for the remaining to save his stamina and finally reached the shrub.

"Half an hour has already elapsed," Jin muttered softly. At this speed, he didn’t see him winning this, but he could do nothing and lie in wait.

He waited for the person to get shot so that he could once again sprint as far as possible.

Ice was currently hiding behind a bush and was the farthest from the centre.

’At this rate, it would be impossible for me to win,’ She thought and kept thinking for any ideas.

Thinking of something, she grabbed the few branches at the bottom of the bush and pulled them out.

’...this might just work out,’ Ice thought with a hopeful glimmer in her eyes.

Specy was taking cover under a sand mound as a Lizard crept past him.

He had rushed when he heard the second shot, but unlike Jin, his stamina was quite low and he had managed to cover only a hundred meters.

’There are only four of us here and brown can focus on only one person at a time. That gives me a one in four chance, which is exactly twenty-five per cent to avoid him and gain ground...’

Specy was fully involved in thinking of a solution. Several scenarios ran through his mind but in most of them he got shot.

"This is the only way for me," Specy thought and started crawling to the side instead of going straight and taking the shortest route.

The terrain benefited his idea as the dune behind which he was taking cover stretched several meters to the side.

’The probability of him looking for me in between two cardinal points is the minimum. I’ll bet my sleep on it!’

With this thought, Specy continued to crawl sideways.

Meanwhile, Brown was patiently observing in all directions while humming a song to himself.

’They’re not as impatient as the earlier batch,’ Brown commented.

It had been an hour now and he still had not found anyone yet.

’...but they’ll start getting impatient now,’ Brown grinned and looked forward to finding them.

’Why is he not shooting anymore?!’ Jin thought in frustration. If he wanted to move then looking for an opportunity when the gun fires was the best option.

"I’ll have to risk it then,’ Biting his lips Jin decided to make a run for it. His stamina had recovered by now so he was confident.

He followed a zig-zag path and his figure started drifting from one point to another.

It was quite fast but also quite conspicuous.

"BANG!"

A shot was fired.

However, before Jin could react, he felt a sting on his chest. He was shot.

"Shit!" Jin exclaimed in frustration. (A/N: Bro thought he was the main character xD)

"Hehe caught the big fish," Brown chuckled and looked for others.

Hearing the shot, the other three stopped in their tracks.

Shadow was two kilometres away from the spot. He had been betting gambling for the last half an hour by making small sprints every four to five minutes.

It had worked so far but now he didn’t dare to move anymore.

Specy was at the kilometres mark and was doing really well.

As for Ice? Well, see for yourself.

Beside a mound of sand, several bushes were present at random distances.

Suddenly, a bush shook and started moving about twenty meters at a very slow pace before coming to a stop.

After a one-minute rest, it continued to do so once again.

’It’s a pretty stupid idea but it’s working,’ Ice thought to herself and kept moving.

She was just eight hundred meters away from the hut when Jin was shot.

She froze for a few seconds but continued moving. The Oasis was almost near and after reaching there she could then use her surroundings very well to hide.

BANG!

Another shot rang out when Ice was just four hundred meters away. She gritted her teeth and kept moving. The Oasis was just a hundred meters away.

When she finally reached the Oasis, another round was fired. She closed her eyes expecting the bullet to hit her but it didn’t.

’Huh? Wasn’t that the fourth gunshot?’ Ice thought in confusion.

’Maybe he’s been firing blanks to scare us all this time,’ Ice shook those useless thoughts away and continued to close in towards the hut.

"Hmm? I’m surprised I’m unable to find her. She has the lowest potential amongst the other three so I was not expecting much from her," Brown muttered in interest as his scope surveyed his surroundings.

At that point, he was alerted by the abnormal hustling of the vegetation not far away.

His eyes squinted a little and using the night scope he looked towards that place.

"I’ll be damned," An excited expression formed on Brown’s face as the next second he pulled the trigger.

BANG!
