MY HIDDEN TALENT IS FORBIDDEN BY THE HEAVENS-Chapter 82: WHEN THE ADULT IN THE ROOM SPEAKS
Chapter 82 — WHEN THE ADULT IN THE ROOM SPEAKS
Ling Yifan had expected chaos.
He had not expected this.
The moment he opened the door to the shared lodging wing, he was hit with the unmistakable scent of poor decisions. Something worse. A lingering mixture of spirit-chips, incense, fried food, and regret.
A strong sense of Alcohol came from their clothes.
His steps slowed.
His eyes narrowed.
Chen Wulian froze mid-laugh.
Zhao Ming stopped chewing on something she definitely should not have been chewing at this hour, didn’t tell what that was either.
Jin Ruolan straightened instinctively, like a soldier caught slouching.
Ouyang Xue’er closed her eyes.
Qin Shuo adjusted his glasses very carefully and said nothing.
Ling Yifan stood there for a long moment, spear resting against the doorframe, posture straight, expression calm in a way that made everyone’s stomach sink.
He had already heard the rumors of what happened last night, when he went for coffee this morning.
"...Sit," he said.
No one argued.
They sat.
Chen tried to smile. It came out wrong.
"So," Chen began, "before you say anything—"
Ling Yifan raised a hand.
Chen stopped.
The silence stretched.
Ling Yifan exhaled slowly.
"I don’t care that you went out," he said. "I don’t care that you celebrated. We won. You earned that much."
Zhao Ming relaxed a fraction.
Then Ling Yifan continued.
"I care that you forgot where you are."
That did it.
"I care that we’re in Vermillion territory," he said evenly. "I care that there are guild eyes everywhere. I care that people are watching us not as students, but as pieces on a board. And I care that last night, you all acted like this was a vacation."
Chen opened his mouth again.
Ling Yifan looked at him.
Chen closed it.
"You think mistakes are harmless because nothing happened," Ling Yifan said. "That’s the most dangerous thought you can have."
Jin Ruolan clenched her fists. "We didn’t hurt anyone."
"That’s not the point," Ling Yifan replied. "You gave people information. About how you act when relaxed. About who loses control. About who can be baited."
Ouyang Xue’er finally spoke. "We were careful."
Ling Yifan met her gaze. "You were lucky."
The room was quiet again.
Ling Yifan’s tone softened slightly, but his words did not.
"I’m not scolding you because I’m angry," he said. "I’m scolding you because if something had gone wrong last night, I wouldn’t have been there to pull you out."
That landed.
Chen rubbed the back of his neck. "...Yeah. That’s fair."
Qin Shuo cleared his throat. "For the record, the probability of hostile engagement was low."
Ling Yifan looked at him.
Qin sighed. "Lower than zero in hindsight."
Ling Yifan nodded once. "We’re not children anymore. Stage Three made that clear. From now on, when we leave the academy grounds, we do it knowing someone might be watching."
Zhao Ming raised a hand weakly. "Does that mean no more fun."
"It means smarter fun," Ling Yifan replied.
Chen slumped. "That sounds worse."
Before Ling Yifan could respond, another voice cut in—calm, faintly amused.
"Well," Long Hao said from the doorway, "to be fair."
Everyone turned.
Long Hao leaned casually against the frame, arms folded, expression neutral in his usual unreadable way.
"This probably wouldn’t have happened," he continued, "if Chen wasn’t with you."
Chen’s head snapped up. "HEY."
Long Hao tilted his head. "Statistically."Imitating Qin Shuo.
Qin nodded. "He’s not wrong."
Chen stared at both of them. "I hate this team."
Ling Yifan sighed, rubbing his head. "...This is not helping." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Long Hao shrugged. "You’re acting like their father. Someone had to lighten the mood."
Chen squinted. "Wait. Did you just call him our dad."
Long Hao smiled faintly. "I implied it."
Ling Yifan gave him a look.
Long Hao raised both hands. "Alright. I’ll stop."
He didn’t look sorry.
The tension eased, just a little.
Then a sharp knock echoed down the corridor.
All heads turned.
A Vermillion Academy staff member stood outside, posture formal, expression neutral.
"Representatives of all academies," he announced, "are to report to the Grand Arena immediately. The dean has an announcement to make."
The air changed instantly.
Chen straightened. "That was fast."
Ouyang Xue’er was already on her feet. "Guess playtime’s over."
Ling Yifan nodded once. "Form up."
As they moved, the noise of Vermillion Academy grew louder with every step. Students poured from every direction, conversations buzzing, speculation flying.
"Another rule change?"
"Already?"
"Stage Three isn’t over?"
By the time they reached the arena, the stands were filling rapidly. The air hummed with anticipation, spiritual pressure layered and contained.
Then—
The sky shifted.
Three presences descended at once.
Not walking.
Not teleporting.
Dropping from the air like inevitability made flesh.
The Dragon Turtle Academy dean landed first, laughing as the stone cracked beneath his feet.
The Azure Dragon dean followed, calm as ever, sleeves unmoving despite the wind.
And finally—
The Vermillion Phoenix Academy dean descended in a flare of controlled flame, landing at the center of the arena with effortless grace.
The crowd erupted.
She raised a hand.
Silence fell.
"Stage Three has concluded its first phase."she said, voice clear and carrying.
Murmurs rippled through the stands.
She smiled slightly.
"And as promised, it is time to reveal the second."
Teams leaned forward.
Captains stiffened.
Ling Yifan felt the shift immediately. This wasn’t just another match announcement.
This was escalation.
The Vermillion dean’s gaze swept the arena slowly.
"Those who remain," she continued, "will no longer compete as they have before."
A pause.
A deliberate one.
"Because what comes next is not about endurance." she said.
Not about luck.
Not about survival.
She met the eyes of the captains one by one.
"It is about leadership."
The crowd erupted again.
Ling Yifan’s grip tightened slightly.
Long Hao’s eyes sharpened.
The Vermillion dean smiled.
"Now," she said, "I will reveal what Stage Three’s second part will be."
The arena was in chaos and all were preparing themselves to face what comes next.
