Chapter 342: Chapter 39 Gentle Township_2

Talking to him about this was utterly pointless.

Lu Lei’s reason suddenly returned, and she realized that telling Uncle Yu about all this on her own was probably going to anger her mother, right?

Chilled to the bone at the thought of her mother’s terrifying anger, Lu Lei threatened Yu Bingliang with a bravado that belied her inner weakness, "You’re not allowed to tell Mom about today’s events, or else I’ll make you regret it."

Having said her piece, she didn’t entangle herself with him any further and hurriedly ran out.

The abandoned Yu Bingliang stood in a daze for a long while before regaining his senses. He suddenly turned his head toward Huang Xue Mei with a ferocious look and demanded, "How did you know about Ah Xiao’s existence in the first place?"

At this point, Huang Xue Mei had become calm. She said indifferently, "I received a call from Lu Xiao in your office. She thought she was speaking to you and called out, ’the child’s father.’"

"So you just went to Zhongnan County to expose Ah Xiao?" Yu Bingliang’s face was dark and brooding.

"Shouldn’t I?" The resentment from years ago surged in her heart as Huang Xue Mei retorted coldly, "My husband secretly took another wife behind my back and has children by other women calling you ’Dad.’ What am I then? What about my virtue? What did it mean when I left my parents, siblings, sisters, and followed you all the way to the Capital?"

"How much suffering did I endure for you? Yet here you are, turning my whole life into a joke!"

"You knew I would never divorce you," Yu Bingliang said, pained and perplexed. "Ah Xiao knew nothing; why did you have to harm her?"

"Who else should I harm if not her?" A trace of guilt rose in Huang Xue Mei’s heart, but her face was still cold as she said, "You say you won’t divorce me? I could have married any man at random and not been sent back to my parents’ house, but is that what I wanted?"

"I hate you so much I could die, but without you, my child and I wouldn’t survive in the Capital. That’s why you need to live, live well. But where should the bone-deep hatred in my heart go?"

"Other than Lu Xiao, who else can bear the brunt of my hatred?" Huang Xue Mei’s expression was detached as she continued, "You can hate me if you want, but let me remind you of one thing—Lu Xiao’s suffering ultimately traces back to you!"

"She’s just bearing the hatred I harbor for you!"

With those words, she left without looking back.

But before she could leave the living room, a loud thump echoed from behind. She turned her head and saw that Yu Bingliang had collapsed unconscious, overwhelmed by her words.

"What, he had a stroke?" Shen Chi was irked when he heard what Jiang Tao was saying on the phone. He had been just about to deal with the other party, so how could he have had a stroke all of a sudden?

Jiang Tao nodded and said, "We don’t know the exact cause, but from the news we got from the hospital, it seems that Yu Bingliang and Huang Xue Mei had a fallout, and none of his children have visited him."

Shen Chi found it quite uninteresting. He had been all set to completely sideline Yu Bingliang, but now with this stroke, he knew that there was no need for him to lift a finger for the other’s authority to be stripped away.

What was this all about?

"Commander, I think what you should be worried about now is not this. It’s about when exactly you are going to come to work. Official duties have already piled up on your desk! Though the higher-ups gave you two weeks off, you can’t escape these accumulated duties. It’s just a vasectomy; when did you become so delicate? Didn’t you say you could come back to work after the surgery?" Jiang Tao was filled with grievances.

"Uh..." Shen Chi evasively said, "Haven’t I entrusted you to handle all those official duties?"

"I wish I could, but there are many documents that may not be important, yet they need the commander’s signature!"

"How about moving the office work to my place? I’ll handle it from home?" Shen Chi hesitated before suggesting.

"What’s the difference between that and coming to the Military Department to work? You know that those documents can’t be taken out of the Military Department!" Jiang Tao was quite frustrated; what was going on in his boss’s head? He’d never seen him so negligent before.

"Let’s wait another two days then, I’ll come back to work after two more days." Without waiting for Jiang Tao to speak up, Shen Chi hung up the phone.

"Awake?" At that moment, Lin Xiaoguai came in carrying a bowl of Borscht.

"Just woke up, have Sisi and the others woken up yet?" Shen Chi took the Borscht from her and began to drink with relish.

"Not yet, still sleeping soundly," Lin Xiaoguai said as she gently smoothed his disheveled hair, her voice soothing, "How’s the taste?"

Shen Chi gave a thumbs up. Seeing her reveal a shallow smile, he then asked, "It’s not an issue for you not to visit the farm, is it?"

"It’s fine; the staff aren’t just standing around for nothing." After he finished drinking, Lin Xiaoguai took a jacket and draped it over him.

Shen Chi bent down and kissed Lin Xiaoguai on the forehead. She laughed lightly and on tiptoe, returned a kiss on his chin.

They looked at each other and smiled, their eyes filled with warmth.

Shen Chi sighed inwardly. Ever since he had the vasectomy, Wanwan’s attitude towards him had changed, becoming ever more tender, often making it hard for him to want to leave her tender and affectionate eyes.

Life was indeed too beautiful. Perhaps it was best to wait until the two weeks of leave were fully over before returning to work.

Jiang Tao had no idea what Shen Chi was thinking. Angrily hanging up the phone, he turned around to see the logistic soldiers bringing in another pile of work, his expression nearly shattered.

How could this life go on!

The couple came downstairs to see Little Spring Breeze lying happily under the coffee table, and the nanny trying to get him out was in a panic. He eluded her swiftly, her sweet words of coaxing having no effect whatsoever.

"Little Spring Breeze!" Lin Xiaoguai called sternly.

"Yiya!" Seeing his mom, Little Spring Breeze stopped hiding and slid out from under the table, then redoubled his efforts to climb up to Lin Xiaoguai’s side, holding onto her skirt, trying to climb up.
