My Goalkeeping System-Chapter 553: Unpredictable Zone
The entire stadium seemed to have frozen at that moment, and Dented, glued to a spot, could only watch in despair as the ball glided past him.
"Is this the fourth goal for Unique FC?!" Jim exclaimed.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t as the ball ended up hitting the crossbar before flying off to the side for a goal kick.
"Oh, and it’s the woodwork once again!" Jim sighed. "Just how many times has Unique FC hit the woodwork tonight?"
The sighs of disappointment in the stadium were especially resounding.
The fans were really praying for that to go in. That would put a bit of damp on Norlin FC’s fighting spirit and they might just be able to hold on for a while longer.
Ferran was the most frustrated about that miss and he couldn’t help but kick the grass in anger.
<Your teammates must really love the woodwork>
Dave could hear the sarcasm in Catherine’s words but he really couldn’t be bothered to talk to her now.
<Their training session after this match should be called, ’How not to hit the woodwork’>
She was still talking when Senses sent the ball flying into the pitch, attempting to play Sai Ahmed who was on the halfway line, through.
Fortunately, the ball was intercepted by Adolf with a header.
However, that left the ball flying free and Norlin FC gaining possession of the ball.
<They’re quite ambitious. When is Mateo making an appearance again? There’s less than thirty minutes left in the match>
She sounded quite nonchalant when she said that but Dave had a feeling she might be starting to lose her temper.
The ball falling into Norlin FC’s defence meant that it was going to take Unique FC a lot of effort to get it back.
That was the way it had been for most of this second half.
At the moment, the possession stats showed that Norlin FC had sixty-nine per cent ball possession while Unique FC had thirty-one.
Anyone who didn’t know would think that Unique FC was the second division side between the two teams.
Frankie almost won the ball after a careless pass from a Norlin FC player to Lopez.
Unfortunately, he had just stolen the ball with a skilful slide when it was stolen away from him by another player because of a tiny mis-hit from him.
The midfielder couldn’t help but shake his head in exasperation as he watched the ball getting further and further away from him.
"I have to say, Frankie has been the hardest worker on the pitch today. He’s made the most interceptions and has won the most ground duels. If his teammates could maintain the same energy, their midfield wouldn’t look so worn out right now." Jim articulated.
"To be honest, I think Norman just needs to get some fresh legs in here. Ferran has been effective offensively since he came in but look at the other two. Martinez looks especially exhausted and Henry just can’t keep up with the speed of the game anymore." Steve added his own opinion.
The time had just struck the eighty-first minute when Lopez received the ball just thirty yards away from Unique FC’s goalpost.
Martinez quickly charged toward the youngster to force him off the ball, but Lopez was just too fast, and his movements were too erratic to predict.
Left, right, and a quick spin was all it took to get past Martinez, and after getting past him, he didn’t look like he was going to stop and just kept charging forward.
Frankie tried to stop him, but no matter how fast he ran, Lopez was just too fast for him to keep up.
"Lopez is charging into the box."
Seeing Lopez closing in on them, the two counter backs were on their guard and Dave’s gaze turned sharp.
Aima immediately pushed back to make sure there was a last line of defence just in case.
The two fullbacks had their eyes locked on the wingers to make sure there were no gaps for them to take advantage of.
Adolf quickly charged toward the speeding Lopez, and unlike their previous clashes, he didn’t even try to be civilised in dealing with him.
He wasted no time sweeping the midfielder off his feet, his right foot reaching for the ball at the same time.
"Oh, that doesn’t look good."
The referee didn’t need to look twice to know that he needed to blow the whistle.
As for Lopez, he was clutching his right leg on the ground. It didn’t take long for an argument to ensue as the opposing team believed that Adolf was deliberately trying to injure Lopez and have him exit the game.
Well...they weren’t wrong, but there was no way that Adolf or his teammates were going to admit it.
<He’s not injured>
Dave was left speechless by how disappointed Catherine sounded.
He had to applaud Lopez, this was the first time someone other than him had caused Catherine to show so much emotion.
As Catherine said, Lopez wasn’t injured and was able to get back on his feet after a while. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Adolf was shown a yellow card in the end but he didn’t really care.
The problem now was that Norlin FC had a free kick near the edge of their box.
However, if it came down to it, he believed that Dave would be able to handle anything they threw at him. Still, he couldn’t help but feel a little worried.
Unique FC quickly set up their five-man wall, including the person on the ground.
If they were being honest, the whole team were actually quite apprehensive about this free kick, which included Dave, who had his eyes locked on the two standing over the ball.
Both Lopez and Dennison were standing over the ball making it impossible to tell who was going to take the free kick. But no matter who it was, he wasn’t going to allow any more balls into his goalpost.
It didn’t take long before the referee blew his whistle, and the moment he did, Dennison took a quick step forward.
He didn’t take another step after that as Lopez quickly charged toward the ball and struck it with his right foot, curling it toward the top right corner.
"It’s Lopez!"
Dave dived toward the ball almost immediately, getting the tip of his gloves on it. The ball deflected off his glove, hitting the crossbar before flying into the box.
"Great save from Dave but the danger is still lurking!"
That was right on point, as Sai Ahmed dashed past the Unique FC players around him to get to the ball just as it made contact with the ground.
"Sai Ahmed with the rebound!"
Dave reacted quickly, diving toward the ball and getting the tip of his gloves on it to change its trajectory once again.
The ball hit the woodwork before flying off toward the right.
"I can’t believe it! Another save from Dave!"
This time, there was really nothing Unique FC could do as the ball happened to fall right on Dennison’s feet.
Jonas didn’t even get the chance to do anything before he sent the ball rolling into the goalpost
A devastated Dave could only watch as Dennison picked up the ball before rushing off toward the kickoff spot.
The opposition fans were screaming and jumping in jubilation and the players were all smiles.
"They actually did it! They managed to recover from a three-goal deficit!" Jim exclaimed.
"Alright, this match has officially entered the unpredictable zone."
