My Gluttony System: I Devour God-Tier Talents-Chapter 44: Anomaly
The sunlight filtered down bringing warmth into the dome with the harshness seemingly being made milder by the the invisible barrier that surrounded
The Floating City, Teknologia.
Kyriewalked out of the Dormitory in the presence of other students. Some ran while others walked slowly like he did. They all had a single destination.
The Test Sphere
The Test Sphere was a large building that arched up like a miniature dome within the academy dome.
Its structure was embellished with brass trims and purplish fluorescent veins that kept pulsating in the distance.
From the wrong angle, it looked quite ominous. At least to Kyrie, who was walking there with hands in the pockets of his waist long grey leather coat.
He wore navy blue trousers and black boots with his scarf around his neck and the pendant on his chest visible for all to see.
Walking slowly but steadily he finally came under the massive shadow casted by the clock tower that was the central attention of the academy dome.
Kyrie was about to enter the Test Sphere when a wave of murmurings. Small chatter. Screams. Laugher Came rushing his direction.
He paused at the entrance of the sphere. Took a deep breath and then stepped in.
The interior of the sphere reeked of copper and something that tasted metallic.
The circular chamber was arranged in a tiered setting format along the walls and the students in their multitudes filled the seats.
Immediately Kyrie entered, his crimson eyes scanned around and quickly he caught a glimpse of Milo at the back.
Kyrie strutted towards the boy. He noticed everybody else was wearing their black on black uniforms but he wasn’t able to get one having missed the orientation ceremony.
Kyrie sat closed to Milo with arms crossed.
" What’s happening? " he asked.
Milo smiled the moment he saw Kyrie. Shifting closer to him.
" I heard they use some kind of device " Milo said quietly
" It measure reserves directly "
You’re quite the information whore Milo. Kyrie said inwardly while he grinned.
" That sounds interesting "
Milo glanced at him, then back at the platform.
"You nervous?"
"No."
Milo nodded slowly. "Yeah. Me neither."
An obvious lie.
....
A few minutes later, the doors at the far end of the hall opened, and a man stepped onto the elevated platform.
The man was atleast 6’1 with shoulders that seemed to be unable to come down and a weary face but perfectly framed.
His attire was a uniform as well but he’s was different from the students. The black seemed alot darker, with more brass embroils and a badge on his front pockets.
He was clearly one of the instructors.
He walked to the podium without looking at the crowd and nobody seemed to have noticed him at all.
His presence seemingly leaving no readings until he spoke. Voice cutting through all the noise instantly.
"Quiet."
And immediately the claws of silence gripped the hall. Each student suddenly had eyes fixated on him.
The man’s black eyes swept across the hall with his expression stern and unreadable.
"I am Instructor Clyde. You will address me only as such. Nothing more, nothing less."
He pointed a finger towards a platform that was now elevating on his side.
"Testing begins now. You will be called in alphabetical order. When your name is called, step forward. The process is simple. Four measurement metrics: Class, Tier, Type and combat assessment.
The murmurings soon returned to the hall breaking the shackles of silence.
The students discussed the parameters of the testing.
"Alphabetical order would take forever ." A young man spoke.
"What’s the point of testing for types." Another boy asked. Face frowned
"To understand your stance in battle"
A beautiful girl answered with arms on the young man’s s shoulder.
Kyrie watched as the murmurings got louder even while Milo fidgeted a bit. Nervous about all this.
Kyrie’s eyes were on Clyde whose marrowed eyes in turn were on the students.
"If you have a problem with that, leave now." His voice thundered.
But no one moved a muscle.
Clyde nodded once.
"Good. First name: Arthur Russ."
A young man with fair skin and grey eyes stood from the front row and walked toward the platform.
Kyrie watched intently as a mecha-bot zoomed forward, carrying a device on its back.
The device was spherical, its body made from brass and it’s compartment made from glass with the translucent glass glowing a faint purple like the forces of nature were brewing within.
Arthur placed his hand on the sphere and the device glowed.
Clyde glanced at a display on the podium.
"Class: Gamma.. Tier: Adept Level 4."
Arthur stepped back, his face a mix of relief and yet disappointment. He expected more.
The process continued.
More names were called and students stepped forward to know their fates. Results were announced after each testing.
Kyrie paid attention, ignoring Milo who acted like he was going through an existential crisis even after he was found out be was Class: Gamma, Adept level 3.
"Shaw, Kyrie."
The hall grew quiet as they saw Kyrie who wasn’t dressed in traditional uniform approach the platform confidently.
Kyrie stepped forward, reaching the platform in no time. He wanted to get this over with.
When he got to the platform, his hand was on the sphere.
The sphere glowed brightly before it began calibration.
And then a pause. That remained for awhile.
Then Clyde interpreted the potential.
"Class: Epsilon."
The hall erupted with noise. But from excitement but confusion. Whispers spread like wildfire.
Students leaned forward in their seats, staring at Kyrie.
Epsilon?
"That’s useless" A boy said. His voice was thick.
"How did he get in?"
"And he was so confident" Another pointed out.
Clyde’s voice came again, much louder this time.
" Tier: Adept Level 7 or 8. A retesting is required for precision."
All the whispers stopped immediately.
Silence.
Kyrie smirked as he removed his hand from the sphere and stepped back before bowing slightly. Was it respect or was it mockery?
Clyde’s gaze remained on him for a moment.
"Next."
Kyrie walked back to his seat with the clicks of his boots echoing in the hall making good use of the silence.
Milo stared at him, Surprised by Kyrie’s composure.
"Epsilon?" he whispered.
"But your Tier—"
"Doesn’t matter," Kyrie said quietly. Staring forward.
Milo fell silent.
The testing continued, but Kyrie could feel the vipers aim their fangs.
He didn’t care. He actually looked forward to it.
...
Elsewhere in the Academy within a library clicking and hissing sounds could be heard everywhere.
The room was covered with blueprints, half-finished projects, tools or different sizes.
Steam hissed from a contraption hung in the wall, and Neteros energy flickered through glass tubes along the lamps.
Guinevere Uriel sat at her workbench, goggles perched on her forehead, her hands covered in oil and ink stains.
She was focused on a small device in front of her, adjusting gears with screwdrivers.
The door suddenly opened.
A beautiful young woman stepped inside, her school uniform pristine, her red hair tied back neatly.
"Guinevere, you’re missing the testing."
Guinevere didn’t even look up.
"I know."
The woman let out a deep sigh.
"You do realize there will be hot guys there, right? And it’s the perfect time for you to find new subjects for your experiments."
Guinevere paused. It was as if something sparked in her mind.
A twinkle appeared in her eyes as she repeated.
"Subjects?"
The red hair smiled as she saw the reaction.
"New specialists. To work with. Or on." She continued.
Guinevere set down her tool and stood.
"You’re absolutely right."
She quickly grabbed her coat from the stand and was at the door in second.
The red hair followed,, a grin on her face.
"Always works "
The testing hall was still quite filled when Guinevere arrived.
She took position on a platform near the back, arms crossed, watching the students below with quite some interest.
Her friend stood beside her, pointing out attractive participants.
Guinevere wasn’t bothered with that. Her gaze swept over the crowd before she raised her where she saw the display.
A name. A result.
Kyrie Shaw. Class: Epsilon. Tier: Adept Level 7-8.
Her eyes narrowed in confusion.
Epsilon.
With Adept-level Potency.
That takes a very, very, decent psion and imagine he is just entering the academy.
Where did he learn to improve his Nexus. She pondered. Her fingers under her jaw.
Guinevere leaned forward slightly, her gaze locking on the white-haired young man at the back of the hall.
He seemed totally unperturbed by the stares.
Interesting! she spoke inwardly.
The red hair nudged her shoulder.
"See anyone you like?"
Guinevere’s lips curled into a smile.
"Maybe."..
Clyde’s voice echoed in the space.
" The first stage of Testing is over. Results have been compiled. Type Assigning continues in two hours."
He paused with his voice seemingly amplified.
" Dismissed "
The students almost immediately began flooding out of the hall and Kyrie fitted into the crowd like a glove.
Even though he seemingly disappeared. Milo seemed to have his number as he appeared beside him.
" Adept level 8 bro. How do you do it?" He joked but Kyrie stayed quiet. Smiling in his mind.
Immediately they walked out. A system notification appeared.
[Testing complete.]
[Host performance: Exceptional.]
[Attention levels: Elevated.]
Kyrie noticed the system was acting strange. Was it her doing? He pondered.
