Chapter 449: Chapter 449 Anger

"Soon? I don’t think so. You both should marry as soon as possible!" Madame Shades said with that same cutting smile, her tone dripping with finality as if her words were law.

"I will send Louis to your home tomorrow morning for shopping. We shall take our leave now—I have a late-night meeting to attend." She rose gracefully from the couch, and Louis scrambled up after her. He gave Ruby one last fake shy look, his cheeks pink, before following his mother out.

The moment the door closed, silence settled heavy in the house. Julian locked it quietly, his face calm but drained of all softness. Adrian jaw tight, his expression hard and ugly, while Milo’s hands twisted the end of his robe sleeves, his brown eyes dark and unhappy.

And Karl—he was like a volcano seconds before eruption. His chest heaved with every breath, his hands clenched so tightly his nails dug into his palms, his eyes flashing like fire. He couldn’t contain it.

"Now what are we going to do?? Hah?! How are we going to arrange our evidence?!" Karl shouted, his voice raw with frustration. He stomped once against the floor like an angry child, but his eyes were serious, fierce. "I swear, I want to kill that Madame Shades and that fat Louis! What do they think they are? Doing us a favor by trying to marry Louis to wife?! Hah! Over my dead body!" His teeth ground so hard his jaw trembled. "Even if wife wanted to marry someone else, I’d cry and adjust! But not him! Not that fat pig! Never!"

His words rang sharp in the room, and Milo sniffled softly, agreeing with him in silence.

Julian spoke, forcing his voice to be steady though his own eyes burned with anger. "Let’s... have dinner first," he said gently. "We’ll think better after."

Ruby exhaled slowly, pressing her hand to her temple. "Yeah," she whispered.

Dinner was quiet, tense, every clatter of the spoon against the plate louder than usual. Ruby barely tasted the food, Karl kept stabbing at his plate like it had insulted him, Milo ate silently, and Julian kept serving them all even though his own appetite was gone. Adrian, as usual, was the calmest but anyone who knew him could see the storm brewing under his cold silence.

Finally, after dinner, they gathered again in the living room. No one spoke at first.

Julian broke the silence, his voice heavy. "We just have a week to prepare," he muttered. His brows furrowed deeply. "Wife... I don’t like this. What if something goes wrong? What if... what if you really end up marrying Louis?" The words caught in his throat, his heart pounding at the thought.

Ruby’s face tightened. "I know... but she’s watching every move we make. If we do something sudden, it’ll make her suspicious," she said, her voice edged with frustration.

Julian turned to her, his voice low. "Then don’t leave tomorrow. Stay home. If you step outside with her watching, she’ll twist it ."

Ruby chewed her lip, stress clawing at her chest. "So what should we do? How do we collect evidence?"

Adrian finally spoke, his tone calm but sharp, slicing through the tension. "Originally, I thought all of us could go together. But if we all disappear at once, it’ll be suspicious. Too obvious."

Julian looked at him quickly. "Then what do you suggest, brother Adi?" His voice trembled with worry.

Adrian’s eyes darkened, a cold smile pulling faintly at his lips. "Don’t worry. I think Julian and I should go to your old house. Quietly. While Madame Shades’ eyes are fixed on you, wife."

Ruby’s eyes widened, her stomach twisting with worry. "But... my aunt is cunning. She’s dangerous, Adi. What if—"

"Trust me," Adrian cut her off gently, but firmly. His gaze didn’t waver. "I know her. I’ve met her before... during those years when our marriage was being discussed. I know how she moves, how she talks, how she plays her game. And I know how to handle her." His cold smile deepened, sharp as ice.

Ruby exhaled, staring at him. His confidence was different from Karl’s fire and Julian’s warmth—it was calm steel, unshaken.

"...Then I’ll hire bodyguards for you both," Ruby said, her voice tight but resolute. "At least for safety. I trust you, Adrian. I know how smart you are—but I won’t let you go unprotected."

Adrian’s eyes softened for the faintest second, but his reply was as steady as ever. "That’s fine. But don’t worry, Wife. By the time we’re back, we’ll have the evidence. Enough to tear down Madame Shades completely."

The room fell silent again, but this time the silence was filled not only with fear but with a spark of hope.

The next morning, Ruby was already in a foul mood. She wanted to hire bodyguards before anything else, but before she could even settle her thoughts, Fat Louis arrived at their door earlier than expected. His round figure filled the doorway, his robe stretched tight, and he grinned smugly.

"Ruby my future Wife! Today we must go shopping together," he announced proudly, puffing his chest like it was the greatest honor in the world.

Ruby’s temples throbbed. Before she could even reply,

Adrian moved past her calmly, his sharp eyes narrowing as he saw Louis standing too close to her. Without hesitation, he pressed a firm hand against Louis’s shoulder and pushed him back a step, his expression cold.

"You’re standing too close," Adrian said flatly. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Then he leaned closer to Ruby, lowering his voice so only she could hear. "I think I should inform Angeline and her husbands. We may need their help soon."

Ruby nodded quickly, grateful for his steadiness.

Adrian’s gaze flicked to Louis briefly, his jaw tightening with distaste, then he bent slightly closer to Ruby’s ear. "Go shopping with him. But make sure he carries every single bag. Don’t pretend to be gentle with him. Got it?"

Ruby’s lips twitched into a faint, almost mischievous smile, and she nodded. "Got it."
