Chapter 352: Chapter 196: Evergreen Tavern (Part 2)

"A guest is a guest; there’s no reason to drive them away," Li Changqing said to Zhang Fuguang.

Just as he finished speaking, a commotion of footsteps echoed from the alley.

Soon, five soldiers appeared at the entrance of the Evergreen Tavern. They were dressed in soft armor and raincoats, their eyes scanning the tavern’s interior.

They were in pursuit of a flower thief, but somehow lost him when he entered the alley.

This tavern seemed suspicious.

"Welcome," Li Changqing said with a smile.

"Is it you?"

Seeing Li Changqing and Zhang Fuguang, the guard captain exclaimed in surprise, "Is this tavern yours?"

This was the same guard captain who had been brought by a driver a few days ago, claiming Zhang Fuguang had committed murder.

"What a coincidence," Li Changqing nodded, "this tavern is mine."

"Hmm." The guard captain nodded, "Have you seen a burly man run in here?"

"Yes, he’s hiding under that table inside," Li Changqing gestured.

Instantly, the burly man burst out, glaring angrily at Li Changqing, "You want to die!"

"Peng Ning, you can’t escape!"

The guard captain shouted sternly.

To everyone’s surprise, Peng Ning moved swiftly, appearing behind Li Changqing and drawing a knife, pressing it against Li Changqing’s neck.

"Stay back! Or I’ll kill him," Peng Ning roared.

"Don’t be reckless!" The guard captain and several soldiers were shocked, suddenly unable to act rashly. They were responsible for maintaining order in the city, and with Peng Ning holding a hostage, they dared not act recklessly.

Everyone was tense.

But Zhang Fuguang couldn’t help but yawn.

"Look at what’s written on the wall," Li Changqing pointed.

Peng Ning hesitated, following Li Changqing’s finger to see a piece of paper with several lines written on the wall.

The first line read that fighting in the Evergreen Tavern would result in permanent expulsion.

Seeing this, Peng Ning sneered, "Are you crazy?"

"Are you aware of your situation?"

As soon as Peng Ning finished speaking, Li Changqing lightly tapped the blade on his neck, producing a crisp sound.

In an instant, the knife snapped!

The broken blade flew out the door, embedding itself in Tonghua Lane’s wall.

Peng Ning was dumbfounded.

And the next moment, an unseen force flung Peng Ning away!

Peng Ning was swallowed by the heavy rain, crashing into the wall, and landing on the ground, seemingly thrown effortlessly, yet he let out a painful scream.

His arms were both broken!

Even the city soldiers were dumbfounded. Peng Ning was notorious in Zi Wu City, a flower thief of superior strength, a Postnatal Peak Realm cultivator; yet Li Changqing tossed him out so easily.

"Take him!"

The guard captain shouted.

The soldiers quickly went up, binding Peng Ning tightly.

"Finally caught him," the guard captain sighed in relief, then thanked Li Changqing, "Thank you, senior, for your help. This flower thief has plagued the city’s young men for too long, and we’ve finally caught him today. Thank you."

"No problem... wait, what?" Li Changqing paused, "Plagued how many what?"

"Young men," the guard captain nodded, "he targets men specifically."

Li Changqing shivered uncomfortably.

His expression changed when he looked at Peng Ning.

Peng Ning glared at Li Changqing, "I’ve been caught because of you, but just wait. Someday I’ll get out of jail, and you’ll be the first I come after!"

Li Changqing cursed internally, wishing he could deal with Peng Ning now.

Beside him, Zhang Fuguang found the situation amusing for the first time.

He smirked.

"Laugh all you want; when I get out, I’ll come for you too!" Peng Ning sneered coldly at Zhang Fuguang.

Zhang Fuguang froze.

"What does this have to do with me?"

"Shut up!"

The guard captain punched Peng Ning hard.

"What’s your name?" Li Changqing asked the guard captain.

"I’m called Xiao Luo," the guard captain replied respectfully.

"Li Changqing," Li Changqing introduced himself.

"Thank you for today; we’ll be off then." Xiao Luo said, thanking them again, and nodded politely to Zhang Fuguang.

The group left.

Li Changqing glanced at Peng Ning’s departing figure.

"Fuguang."

"Sir."

"Get rid of him tonight. Make sure he dies in prison."

"I was thinking the same,"

The two agreed.

Having such a person targeting you was far worse than being pursued by the Blood Shadow Sect.

Though Peng Ning’s cultivation was poor and posed no threat to Li Changqing and Zhang Fuguang, the thought of being targeted by a same-sex flower thief was unsettling.

That night, Zhang Fuguang went out.

He killed Peng Ning in prison.

Slipping away quietly.

By noon the next day.

The weather had improved considerably, with bright sunshine.

At this time, Xiao Luo returned with several subordinates.

"Changqing senior," Xiao Luo addressed Li Changqing respectfully.

"No need for ’senior’; I’m just a tavern owner," Li Changqing said, unused to the title.

"Then I’ll call you ’sir,’" Xiao Luo said, "Yesterday was so rushed. Today, I thought I’d bring the guys for a drink. Considering ’sir’ has a tavern, we came to taste ’sir’s’ wine."
