My Fated Mate Can Have Her-Chapter 94: Clash
Violet
His question confused me a bit, and nearly annoyed me at the same time. "You said I could go out. Or did you not mean that?"
"That’s not—" He cut himself off, running a hand through his hair. "I noticed you following me earlier today. I was about to call out to you when you turned around and left."
Heat flooded my face. Of course he would have noticed.
"I wasn’t following you," I said, the lie sounding weak even to my own ears. "I was just exploring."
"Violet." His tone suggested he didn’t believe me for a second. "You were very agitated! Even Karla noticed."
Something in me snapped, and a part of the hurt and anger I had been letting go all day suddenly surged to the surface. While it wasn’t as intense as before, it was frustrating.
My hands balled into fists and I jerked them upwards before dropping them. "Urghh. Why are you letting her touch you like that?" The question came out sharper than I had intended and I saw his expression shift into confusion.
"What?"
"That woman or priestess," I continued, my hands trembling. "I saw you. She kept touching your arm, and you just let her. You’re giving everyone the impression she would be your Luna and hearing it constantly was annoying!"
For a moment, he just stared at me. Then something shifted in his expression. A startling surprise, followed by what looked like realization.
"Are you..." He paused, and I saw the exact moment understanding dawned fully on his face. "Are you jealous?"
His words gave me a disturbing moment of clarity that immedeatly made me regret reacting how I had. "What? No. I just—" 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"You are." The disbelief in his voice stunned me and he seemed almost happy? "I only thought something had happened earlier and—"
"I am not jealous. I—" But the denial stuck in my throat, sounding false even to me. My face burned with embarrassment and anger. "Please. forget I said anything."
I was immediately turning to leave and hide from this embarrassing conversation when he took a step toward me. His face suddenly became serious and he froze mid-movement. A sharp alertness overtaking him as his entire body went rigid and his head tilted slightly to the side as if he was listening to something I couldn’t hear.
He stood there for several long seconds, completely still, before his jaw tightened.
"I’ll be right back," he said abruptly, and immediately left the hall, the door closing behind him with a soft click.
I stood there, staring at the empty space where he had been, my emotions a tangled mess of confusion and hurt and residual embarrassment. What had just happened?
’This is so foolish. Talking about such nonsense in front of him for that matter.’
I planted my palm to my face and shook my head, the annoyance shifting to myself. A moment later, I heard voices in the hallway outside. Kael’s, low and tense, and then another voice I recognized. I had gotten a glimpse of it as I had seen Kael earlier today. A cold chill swept down my spine as I heard the priestess’ voice.
They seemed to be talking about the eclipse, and I concentrated more as they moved away from his quarters, their voices fading.
It seemed they had actually made the decision to shift the event to the coming week, and apparently all the wolves participating had already arrived and were just waiting.
Soon, I stood there for a long moment, my hands still clenched into fists at my sides, that horrible tight feeling in my chest rising again. I did not expect that she would even come here.
I shook my head and rushed to my room, trying to get rid of my delusions. She belonged to his pack, so it was only normal she would have a mind link with him the way all the wolves in the nation would.
And from everything I heard, they only spoke about the eclipse and other matters. Nothing personal.
I sighed. I was being ridiculous. Childish. Getting upset over something that shouldn’t matter, and being jealous of a woman I didn’t even know.
I turned my attention to better things rather than just standing there and feeling sorry for myself. I then realised I hadn’t touched up on what I had learned at the settlement. Just because I was no longer there did not mean I had to be slacking.
I started going through the combat forms for a while, losing myself in the familiar movements. Then I exercised until sweat soaked through my clothes. Even though I pushed myself harder than I probably should have, I didn’t feel any pain or even fatigue.
I felt a lot more in control when I eventually stopped.
I would have to apologise to Kael when he returned. Then again, it astounded me some times how I would react to and talk to this man as if he wasn’t a whole Supreme Alpha.
I took a long bath, cool bath and changed into one of the sleep wears before heading towards my bed, planning to sleep off this entire embarrassing day.
I was halfway across the room when I sensed him headed for his quarters, and then entering.
I went still. Something was wrong with him.
The door to the entry hall slammed open and I felt the intensifying wave of his presence wash over me. It was overwhelming, barely controlled and it was very familiar.
My syzygy flared to life and my instincts screamed at me even as my door opened. Kael was standing at the entrance and there was a wild look in his eyes I had seen before, but never with this intensity.
My pulse quickened.
He crossed the room in three strides, grabbed me, and pulled me hard against his chest.
The world tilted. His body was a wall of heat and barely contained power and his heart thundered against my ribs so fiercely I felt it in my bones. One arm locked around my waist and the other cupped the back of my head, his fingers threading gently through my hair.
"Don’t say such silly things. You’re the one I want."
