Chapter 248: Have Some Decorum

Violet

I turned around to see a young woman walking out from the hall and briskly approaching me as if she knew I had intended to run away.

She was tall and heavy set with a mass that looked like muscle underneath the soft fat complementing her body.

This woman had seemingly better curves than the lady I had seen in Ascalone, and if there was something I had noticed with the wolves in Rowan’s territory, their human forms were the biggest I had come across.

Her golden hair glistened with a sheen I never thought was possible indoors and it was held in a braided bun with a fancy hair clasp. Her features were elegant, with full lips curved into a polite smile.

The thin dress rippled around her hips gently as she swayed, coming close right in front of me.

I took a step back, stunned by how she had literally just jumped in my face.

Her eyes swept over me with open curiosity.

"Forgive me for startling you," she said quickly, "I caught your scent from a distance and it was so unique I couldn’t help but follow it."

I had to immediately stifle my surprise. What did she mean by that?

"Oh, I—"

She tilted her head slightly, "News has spread through the castle that our Supreme Alpha returned with a special guest." Her smile widened, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. "I had been wondering when I would have the chance to meet you."

She paused, and her curiosity gave way to more probing.

"Though I must admit," she continued slowly, "it is rather strange. I can smell you, but I cannot sense anything from you." Her brow furrowed delicately. "If not for the scent, I would not have even known you were here at all."

My mouth was slightly parted.

She spoke so fast and hadn’t even given me space to say anything.

"Nice to meet you?" I faintly murmured.

She immediately stood at alert and let out a small laugh as a faint blush coloured her cheeks.

"Please, pardon my rudeness. I am Nessa Mills. My father is Dilla, one of the council heads. And you are?"

"Violet."

"Just Violet?"

"Just Violet."

Why was she so forward?

Should she even be approaching a guest of her Supreme Alpha or was she usually like this?

She regarded me for a long moment, then her smile eased into something more gentle.

Her head titled in a slight nod, and she placed a hand on her chest. "Again, my sincerest apologies." She raised her head and looked at my face. "Forgive my earlier forwardness. It was in poor taste. I was just rather shocked due to my senses, and when I saw a face I hadn’t seen before, I suspected you were his guest."

She smiled, her voice now soft. "I do hope you enjoy your stay in Silverwood. Our Supreme Alpha is a generous host."

"Thank you," I answered.

She smiled and then she leaned forward. "If you don’t mind, please."

I stared, wondering what exactly was wrong with this woman as she reached out and hooked her arm through mine, holding it to her side.

"Please, come," she said, already turning toward the waiting hall. "I am sure you are here to see Lord Rowan. In that case, you could wait with the rest of us. The council meeting has run longer than usual due to his lengthy absence, but it should be—"

Her pull met my resistance, and she stopped mid-sentence, her eyes widening slightly.

I remained exactly where I was, and my feet might as well have been rooted to the stone floor.

Still, I was just as surprised as she was.

Had she just intended to pull me along into that hall without even asking what I was here for?

Nessa stared at me, her composure cracking for the first time.

"Please, I do not appreciate you grabbing me just like that," I told her, staring at where our arms were still connected.

She released my arm slowly, the smile gone from her lips. "I apologise for that. Please, I hope you can accept it."

"It’s... fine," I said, awkwardly shifting my gaze to the open entrance.

"You’re stronger than you look," she said quietly. Her eyes searched my face, as though seeing me for the first time. "Much stronger."

I blinked, not sure how to even respond to that.

Her smile returned, apologetic this time. Her hand drifted to her chest again. "Again, please accept my apologies."

Her voice had gotten oddly soft. "If you are here to see Lord Rowan..." She gestured toward the waiting hall. "Why not wait with us?"

I considered it for a moment, but I wasn’t sure how Rowan would react if I appeared in front of his council members. We hadn’t even discussed what role I was supposed to play here. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

There was another issue as to how he would even introduce me in the first place.

I could just leave to avoid anything unpleasant. I wouldn’t mind waiting till late in the evening to ask him about his nation’s Lycan records.

I opened my mouth to tell Nessa I was just leaving when a deafening crash shattered the air.

My head snapped toward the council room just in time to see the heavy wooden doors explode outward, two massive bodies hurtling through them like they had been launched from the room.

They slammed into the wall beside us with enough force to crack the stone, then crumpled to the floor in a heap of tangled limbs and groaning.

My eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets.

What just happened?

Nessa raised a hand to her mouth, her eyes wide with shock.

Then, strangely, a pleased look entered her eyes. Her lips curved into a small, satisfied smile as she gazed toward the ruined doorway.

"Have some decorum." Rowan’s voice cut through the stunned silence of the space. It was low, serious, and edged with barely restrained anger. "This is not the time or the place for such nonsense."
