My Fated Mate Can Have Her-Chapter 114: Vicious Onslaught
[Warning: Violence & Blood]
Violet
I stood frozen, unable to look away from the savage display.
Corin’s jaws locked around Darnel’s shoulder, tearing deep. Darnel twisted, his own teeth finding Corin’s flank, and ripping through the muscle.
I needed to run. This was my chance. While they were distracted, I could—
Movement in my peripheral vision made me turn my head.
A third wolf was creeping out from behind a massive tree trunk. Larger than Corin, with mottled brown and grey fur that had helped it blend into the shadows. I didn’t recognize this one, but the way it moved, low and stalking, told me everything I needed to know.
It was with Darnel.
The wolf’s yellow eyes were fixed on the fight, waiting for an opening.
"Corin!"
The third wolf struck.
It barrelled into Corin from the side, massive jaws closing around his throat and literally tearing him away from Darnel. Corin howled as he was slammed into the ground.
The new wolf didn’t let go. It shook Corin like a rag doll, teeth grinding deeper into flesh, then released him only to strike again, claws raking across his exposed belly. I went white with horror, the slaughter chilling me to the bone.
My heart jumped when Corin still rose from all that, his teeth snagging one of the wolf’s limb and bringing it down to the ground with him.
Darnel got to his feet, shaking off the damage Corin had inflicted. Blood matted his fur even more, but his eyes were alive with vindictive pleasure as he returned his feral gaze to mine, ignoring the fight breaking out behind him.
No.
I spun and ran, my bare feet tearing on roots and stones as I tried to escape.
A massive weight slammed into my back, driving me to the ground with brutal force. My face hit the dirt, and I felt skin tear. My teeth cut into my lip. The harsh impact drove what little air remained in my lungs out in a painful rush.
Massive jaws closed around my arm.
I screamed as teeth sank deep into flesh, nearly severing the limb entirely. The pain was instant and overpowering every other thing I felt at that moment. His jaws moved to my shoulder, teeth viciously grinding into bone, and then he was flipping me over, his teeth inches from my face, lips pulled back in a sinister snarl.
Then he shifted again, straddling me in human form, and pinning me down with his weight.
"No!" I screamed, trying to push him off, but to my horror and dismay, I found I could barely move my wounded arm.
"There it is," he breathed, his eyes roving over my face with sick pleasure. "That is exactly what I wanted to see."
Tears streaked down my face, mixing with the blood already there. My nearly severed arm hung uselessly, blood pouring from the wound. The pain was so intense I could barely even think or breathe.
His eyes caught on my clenched fist, the one still locked around the pendant.
"What is this?" He reached for it, trying to pry my fingers open. "What are you hiding?"
"No! Leave me alone!" I tried to push him away with my fist, tried to kick, tried anything, but he was too heavy, too strong, and my body was on the brink of collapsing.
I tried to bend the raging syzygy to my will, but it wouldn’t respond. Wouldn’t listen. The lunar and solar sides were still clamouring against each other, leaving me with no control, no power.
Nothing!
’For everything’s sake, I already balanced you!’
Frustration, rage and terror crashed over me all at once.
I couldn’t die here. Not like this. Not to him.
And I wasn’t going to be his plaything!
With a desperate surge, I threw my head forward, slamming my forehead into his nose with every ounce of strength I had left.
Cartilage crunched. Blood sprayed.
Darnel reeled backward, his hands flying to his face as loud string of curses erupted from his mouth.
I tried to get up, had only managed to get on my knees I heard bones cracking behind me again.
I barely had time to look back before Darnel, in wolf form once more, was launching himself at me.
The ground dropped away beneath us, and suddenly we were tumbling down a steep slope, branches and rocks tearing at us as we fell. I cried as my limp arm screamed in pain, the stabbing prickling sensation intensifying with each second to the extent that I felt my arm ripping even more.
My back slammed into a tree trunk, sending fresh waves of agony through my already destroyed body.
His weight dragged me further down till we hit level ground. Stars exploded across my vision as I landed hard, my body screaming that it couldn’t take much more of this.
My vision spun, but my ears strained as Darnel was already getting to his feet, shaking off the fall like it was nothing.
Then I heard it.
A wet, tearing sound. The crack of bones. The grotesque squelch of flesh being pulled apart.
I slowly turned my head towards the source of the noise.
Two creatures crouched over the corpse of a wolf. They were massive, as large as Darnel, and with bodies that looked so disgustingly wrong I nearly felt sick just from looking at them.
Righgs.
The monsters that this hunt was designed to cull. And they were just as hideous as they had been described. They were feeding on what was left of another wolf, their teeth working together to strip meat from the carcass with horrifying efficiency.
Pain wrecked through my body and I tried to stifle the moan that slipped out my lips.
No. No. No. No. No. No. Noooo! 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
I tried once more to call my syzygy to obey me, to give me some kind of defense against these things.
Instead, my body rebelled.
Blood began pouring from my nose again. From my ears. I felt wetness in my eyes and realized blood was filling them, turning my vision red. It gushed from my wounded arm in fresh spurts, and I could taste the blood flooding my mouth.
Noooo!
Those sickly eyes shifted to me.
