My Enemy Became My Cultivation Companion-Chapter 730 - 467: Little Fox, Little Fox (Two in One)
From the very beginning, this was all a scheme. Chen Yi feigned death to slip past the Mountain Protection Sword Formation of Yin Sword Mountain, then used his soul to lure others, seizing the opportunity to reclaim his body and head.
To shake off the Taoists of Yin Sword Mountain who were chasing him, Chen Yi lived in constant fear.
Along the way, he evaded here and hid there, relying on his familiarity with Yin Sword Mountain's terrain. Finally, he shook off all those on his tail.
Of course, this couldn't have been accomplished without Zhou Yitang's covert cooperation, along with the Taoists of the Shenxiao Sect—led by Zhao Deshan—bringing him into the mountain under the guise of paying homage.
If not for this, there would have been no way to avoid the Mountain Protection Sword Formation. This array only exterminates living beings, not souls, so he exploited the formation's rules to sneak through.
"Like a cat, like a cat," he muttered nonsensically, glancing back to alleviate Yin Tingxue's nervousness and panic.
Chen Yi gazed at the little fox he hadn't seen in ages. She was at a loss for words, sitting paralyzed on the ground, eyes wide and unblinking.
She hasn't grown at all…
Chen Yi's expression suddenly softened, and he gently asked, "Aren't you happy I'm back?"
Yin Tingxue snapped back to her senses. Seeing his figure so ethereal and translucent, as if he might vanish at any moment, he resembled a soul returning on the seventh night of death.
Suppressing her excitement, afraid to discover he was indeed dead and to avoid sinking into sorrow, she cautiously asked, "Are you really dead?" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Dead," Chen Yi paused briefly, his thoughts swirling before his entire body slumped.
He collapsed directly onto the ground. Yin Tingxue instinctively reached out to touch but passed right through him, unable to make contact…
She looked again, finding Chen Yi seemingly weak and exhausted, murmuring as he gazed at her, "I held onto a shred of willpower just to see you…"
A bead of fresh blood slipped from his brow, his cracked form resembling shattered porcelain on the verge of breaking.
Yin Tingxue felt a chill envelope her, her eyes welling with hot tears that stubbornly refused to fall. She didn't want him dying in sorrow, so she nodded firmly, "You've seen me…"
Chen Yi, akin to an elderly man nearing life's end, took shallow, broken breaths and added haltingly, "It's not just that—there are lingering wishes too."
Weak to the point of near lifelessness, with seemingly little pretense, Yin Tingxue nodded again, forcing a smile: "I'll help you…"
"I have many lingering wishes," he warned.
"That's fine," the little fox nodded quickly.
"Build me a tomb with clothing and a memorial tablet, and visit me once a month."
"I'll definitely visit."
"Not just that—burn me lots of paper money too."
"I'll burn a ton. If it's not enough, you can send me a dream to let me know."
At this point, Chen Yi seemed too weak even to nod. His head drooped slightly, and he uttered his final request, "One last thing… Have a child for me."
Yin Tingxue froze, blurting out instinctively, "Having a child is impossible…"
"At a time like this, and you still say having a child is impossible?"
Suddenly, Chen Yi sprang upright with a surge of energy, his voice fierce.
Yin Tingxue retreated half a step, shrinking her neck and muttering, "I've heard of marrying for the dead, but never of having a child for the dead."
Chen Yi pondered for a moment and replied, "What if I'm not dead?"
"Not dead?" Yin Tingxue reflexively responded. "If you're not dead, then having a child is even more impossible."
Her words were followed by a giggle, as the tension in her chest dissipated. It seemed he wasn't truly dead. Though she had suspected it earlier, hearing him state ambiguously before now filled her with relief and comfort.
A sliver of cold moon hung in the sky amidst the dim, dreamy light. Towering shadows of fir trees loomed, and Chen Yi stood before her, arching his brows and eyeing her.
His familiar gaze made Yin Tingxue instinctively nervous, yet she mustered the courage to say:
"You're not dead, right?"
"I'm dead," Chen Yi tilted his head. "You made me die of anger."
"I was teasing you. Don't be mad."
It felt like a little bundle of white was tumbling into his embrace as she lunged forward, tilting her small face to look at him.
Though he remained a ghost, and she couldn't actually hold him, she leaned closer, her eyelashes trembling timidly—a trace of the past he had left behind.
Chen Yi's heart was full of tender affection as he softly asked, "Did you see me back then?"
Back then, Chen Yi had seen her. The little fox blinked amidst the cover of the woods, with a flicker of light shimmering faintly.
She was hesitant to approach. Chen Yi, focused on shaking off his pursuers, didn't draw closer either.
Yin Tingxue wrinkled her nose and said, "I don't know if it was you. How embarrassing would it be if it wasn't you?"
"What if it was the last time we ever met?"
He had thought about this too… Yin Tingxue looked slightly surprised, pondering for a moment before saying, "Isn't there always the next life?"
She'd already promised him ten lifetimes. With that in mind, one or two lifetimes didn't seem like such a loss.
"The next life? How could you know what the next life will be like?" Chen Yi looked fierce, half-jesting, half-threatening. "What if, in the next life, we switch roles? I become Yin Tingxue, and you become Chen Yi. Would you bully me every day?"
"Really?" The little fox seemed doubtful.
"Of course. I've opened the Heavenly Eye and seen it. In the next life, it'll be like that.
"In the next life, you'll commit all sorts of misdeeds and bully me every day."
"I wouldn't, no way," Yin Tingxue said earnestly after thinking for a moment. "I'd bully you every other day."
"?"
Chen Yi was startled and squinted at Yin Tingxue, who quickly realized her mistake upon seeing the playful teasing in her husband's gaze.
She lowered her head, hesitated for a long while, then mumbled timidly, "In the next life, I'll let you bully me… But you'll have to bully me only once every two days."
"You're dreaming so sweetly. Once every two days? I'd rather just die now for integrity's sake," Chen Yi replied.
"Don't die, please?"
"Stay with me for a hundred lifetimes."
"That's way too many."
"I'm already dead, and you're still bargaining with me?"
"Aren't you planning to hunt me down across countless lifetimes anyway?"
Seeing her take his words to heart, Chen Yi felt a surge of warmth and sighed, "This love is solid as gold."
