My Elf System-Chapter 216 - . Alchemy Tournament.
A few minutes later the contestants stepped into the arena. A few of them walked towards the spot that was reserved for the contestants while two individuals walked towards the two workstations in the arena.
Seeing this, Mia leaned over the stone railing as her blue eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Who are the first contestants?"
Orion gestured toward the arena. "It seems it will be between the succubus princess who is on the left, and a human alchemist, Ezra, who is on the right."
Their names were actually displayed on one of the screens, which was how Orion was able to know the name of the human.
Mia watched the arena and noticed how Lilith stood tall and confident as her pink-colored hair was tied in a sleek braid that complemented her dark, flowing attire. Her pink eyes shimmered beautifully as she arranged her tools with ease.
However, Ezra, in contrast, didn’t look as confident as Lilith. His brown hair was tied back, and he wore a simple alchemist’s robe.
Although his workstation was meticulously organized, the look on his face showed how anxious he was about this contest.
Mia nudged Orion. "Who do you think will win? And why?"
Orion rested his chin on his hand and studied the two contestants. "I’ve sparred against her during the beast-taming tournament, so I know she’s highly gifted with magic. Also, I’ve heard about how her race is capable of producing good-grade potions; maybe this is why her opponent feels uneasy, but then again, Ezra could counter her brilliance in alchemy if he knows how to use his head. After all, if this contest demands both speed and accuracy, it could go either way."
Listening to this, Mia tilted her head to the side thoughtfully. "I see, so it’s brains versus magic?"
"Yeah, something like that," Orion replied with a smile on his face but Dahlia watched silently with her gaze fixed on the two competitors.
"When will the contest begin?"
"I think it starts now," Orion said, pointing at Ganesha, who was already walking towards the arena.
"Ladies and gentlemen!!!" Ganesha’s voice boomed across the coliseum as he amplified his voice with mana. "Today’s alchemy contest aims to test the skill, creativity, and precision of our contestants. They must craft a restorative potion using only the materials provided in their kits. How will they be able to do this with just a few random materials at their disposal, like decayed dragon scales, rare midnight petals, and a vial of unstable mana," Ganesha explained and a loud gasp and murmur rippled through the crowd.
Aside from the students and Apex Mages watching the tournament right now, there were also a couple of brilliant alchemists from different kingdoms in the mortal realm watching the contest as well and each of them listened as Ganesha explained a few more details about the contest.
"The potions must be stable and effective, and they must be presented within thirty minutes as well. Contestants are allowed to use spells to assist in preparing the potions, but the spells must not be used to directly affect the potion’s final composition. If any student uses a material not provided to them by the academy, they’ll immediately be disqualified."
Lilith and Ezra’s expressions turned serious and Ganesha announced the commencement of the contest
Lilith immediately activated a glyph as she began to scan the ingredients with a wave of her hand. "Delayed dragon scales… volatile but powerful when purified," She murmured to herself then she began to grind and purify the scales with a mortar and pestle.
Ezra on the other hand, worked silently but efficiently as he used one of the equipment with him to remove the impurities from the midnight petals.

He swiftly combined them with distilled water and his hands moved with precision as he adjusted the flame under his cauldron with a flick of his wrist.
Mia’s eyes widened as she watched what the two were doing. "Hmm, the pink girl seems fast, but the human, on the other hand, seems… methodical. It’s like I’m watching two completely different strategies and methods."
Orion smiled before replying. "Alchemy isn’t just about the result; it’s also about the journey because whoever adapts to the challenge wins."
The moment Orion said this, the arena erupted into applause while Lilith’s fans watched as she poured her finished potion into a vial.
The liquid flowed faintly and everyone could see that the potion looked exactly like a restorative potion.
As for Ezra, the human struggled to stabilize his potion, and the unstable mana in his mixture caused a minor explosion that fizzled out within the magical barrier.
Ganesha had seen enough, so he swiftly announced. "And the winner is… Princess Lilith!!"
The crowd roared and Lilith offered her fans a bow.
"She’s good," Mia uttered while watching Lilith return to her seat.
"Yeah, she is," Orion replied with a nod. "She knew exactly how to handle the volatile ingredients. Her opponent’s method was good as well but he couldn’t adapt quickly enough."
Orion revealed what he had noticed, but Dahlia remained silent while watching the contestants return to their seats.
A few minutes later, the arena was reset, and two new contestants stepped forward to the two workstations.
One of the contestants was a female human, and the other was a female elf.
The human was a petite young lady with chestnut brown hair that was tied into a messy bun. She was wearing an alchemist apron and had a relaxed and confident look on her face as she rolled up her sleeves.
Meanwhile, the dark elf had long silver hair, and her dark skin was accentuated by the blue alchemy robe she was wearing. She organized the tools in front of her but Orion noticed Dahlia’s posture stiffen slightly as she stared at the dark elf.
"Is she the friend you told us about?"
"Yes, she is," Dahlia nodded. "Sylvia is really good at alchemy and she works very hard as well, but her opponent seems confident."
Orion studied both Sylvia and the female human. "Yeah, you’re right to think that the win seems more likely to go to the confident human, but Sylvia has an edge, just look at her stance."
Mia followed his gaze and asked. "What do you mean?"
"She’s already analyzing her opponent’s materials and the way her opponent’s tools are set up," Orion explained. "See how Sylvia adjusted her tools subtly after glancing at the table of her opponent? She’s gauging her opponent’s strategy before even starting and that kind of foresight is rare."
Dahlia blinked twice and her lips parted slightly. "I don’t think I understand what you’re talking about." Experience more content on novelbuddy
"Neither do I," Orion replied with a teasing smile. "But I’m curious to see who will win," Orion relaxed in his seat, but Ganesha’s voice rang out, and he laid out the details of the round.
"For this match, contestants must craft a mana resonance elixir. This potion is capable of harmonizing with the drinker’s mana flow. You’ll have forty minutes to prepare it using the following provided materials. Ember root, blue crystal shards, and a small vial of unstable mana. As always, the potions will be judged on effectiveness and stability," He explained before announcing the commencement of the contest.
The audience leaned forward in anticipation as Sylvia and the human contestants got to work.
Sylvia immediately set her focus on the ember root. She ground the root into a powder before muttering a few incantations to purify it and enhance the potency of her ingredients.
Meanwhile, the female human moved quickly. She created a solution from the blue crystal and then carefully heated it over a small flame, adjusting the temperature to achieve a golden hue.
Her movements were calculated and deliberate but she occasionally jotted down notes beside her as if suddenly recalculating the recipe.
Meanwhile, Mia watched everything that was happening and she leaned closer to Orion. "Okay, I can see that they’re both amazing but I still don’t get what makes Sylvia so special. She looks calm, but so does the human she’s competing against."
Orion pointed towards Sylvia’s station. "See how her potion’s content is already stabilized? That’s a sign that she anticipated how the unstable mana would react to the ember root. She’s neutralizing them to an extent before mixing them, which reduces their volatility. As for the human, her method is solid but she’s deciding and reacting as she goes instead of planning ahead."
Dahlia’s gaze and worried look softened as she looked at Sylvia. "That’s just like her. Always thinking ten steps ahead."
Mia glanced at Dahlia and her curiosity was piqued. "Are you two close?"
"Yes, we are," Dahlia replied with a nod.
Mia knew Orion had introduced Dahlia to twenty female elves, but Mia hadn’t expected Dahlia to be so close to one of them already.
This would explain why she wanted to watch Sylvia’s participation in the alchemy tournament.
Sylvia began the final step of her potion as she carefully poured the purified mana essence into the shimmering mixture in her cauldron and the liquid turned into a deep purple color.
