Chapter 262: War In Eden Pt. 8: Estranged Exes

She wondered what Adam would want to do since he was taking his weapons down. Or perhaps was he finally going to use it?

The one item that guaranteed her loss the last time. Was he going to use the Holy Grail?

Lilith’s red eyes narrowed as she watched him carefully, trying to read his intentions while calculating her next move.

Then Adam lifted his right hand in front of him, curling the rest of his fingers except the first two; index and middle.

He had just held up a hand seal, and with that activated his Law.

"The Truth Of Events Are Only As I Imagine Them."

Adam had long known that scribbling could perhaps present itself as a weakness, and had developed his power of Laws to suit just this need.

With his Law active, he no longer required the intermediary step of writing.

Lilith knew gods could make their personal ideologies into things of power, but she hadn’t been around long enough in Eden to develop hers, nor had she gotten an incline idea of what Adam’s could be, which presented her with some sort of trouble now.

Her expression shifted slightly. Then without warning, Adam lifted his left hand towards her.

A golden magic circle appeared in front of him, spinning rapidly as a large blast of golden light erupted from the circle and shot directly toward Lilith.

She reacted immediately. She was going to cast her enchantments, in fact, red magic circles had already materialized in front of her hands as she prepared to invoke a defensive enchantment.

Her lips parted to speak the words that would shield her from the incoming attack.

But somehow, she still got hit.

The golden blast slammed into her torso with devastating force before her enchantment could even manifest, and the impact sent her hurtling backward through the void.

Adam’s Story Weaving, which required him to write, no longer did. All he had to do was envision them in his mind, and the events of it would follow accordingly.

"Lilith’s next enchantment came too late."

That was what Adam had imagined, and reality had bent to accommodate his will.

The timing of her spell had been delayed by few seconds, just enough for his attack to land cleanly before her defense could form.

The divine magic left evaporating smoke rising from Lilith’s body as she stabilized herself in midair, with her red miasma flaring violently around her.

She raised her head slowly toward Adam, and her face was twisted with absolute rage.

Regardless, Adam didn’t give Lilith time to recover from her rage. His hand seal remained held as he envisioned a repetition of his previous attack.

Reality responded immediately, and an asteroid, even larger than the first, diverted from its path and accelerated toward Lilith’s position with tremendous velocity.

Almost at the same time, Adam layered another effect into his imagination: "Lilith’s casting speed slowed to a crawl."

Lilith’s eyes widened as she felt the enchantment forming at her fingertips move sluggishly. Her red magic circles materialized, but far too slowly.

The asteroid struck her directly, and the force kept her pinned against its surface as it continued traveling, dragging her backward through space in a trail of smoke. The searing heat from the celestial body singed her face, leaving burns across her skin.

The asteroid had traveled a considerable distance with her still pinned against it before she finally cast an enchantment.

The celestial body’s weight vanished instantly, becoming as light as a feather once more. In her annoyance, she swung her fist and destroyed the massive rock with a single punch, shattering it into fragments.

Then she cast healing enchantments, watching as her singed skin rapidly regenerated.

She had also figured it out. What Adam’s law might’ve been. It still was his story weaving but he did so with his thoughts now.

A grin spread across her face as an idea formed in her mind. She had devised a means to deal with Adam’s advantage.

Without hesitation, she flew back toward him, and a peculiar red magic circle materialized between her palms as she moved. She had prepared this enchantment carefully, holding it ready for the perfect moment.

The instant she returned to closer proximity with Adam, she released it. "Dullness," she whispered.

The effect was immediate and Adam’s thoughts, suddenly... slowed.

His thought process required tremendous effort, and Ideas that should have formed instantly now took seconds to piece together.

"Let’s see how well your imagination works when your mind can barely string two thoughts together, Husband."

Lilith said with that grin still on her face as red magic circles formed and released blasts that all struck Adam.

They were both equally matched and none of their magic effects lasted too long on the other.

What followed was a brutal exchange, a relentless back-and-forth between their abilities.

Adam continuously rewrote reality, creating new scenarios and shifting the battlefield to his advantage.

But for every event Adam presented, Lilith responded with the perfect counter. She enchanted her way through each situation, attaching defensive effects when needed or separating away anything too dangerous before it could reach her.

They clashed again and again, golden light meeting red miasma in brilliant explosions.

Neither could gain a decisive advantage.

Then Lilith pulled back slightly, floating meters away, with a mocking smile spread across her face.

"This is pointless, Adam," she called out across the distance. "We could do this for another ten thousand years and neither of us would fall."

Adam stared at her for a moment without saying anything. This in itself was true and the stalemate could continue.

However he had already been considering it was time to put this whole thing to an end.

Then he raised his right hand and golden light swirled around his palm. When the light dimmed, a golden chalice floated before Adam.

The Holy Grail.

Lilith’s grin widened further, and she whispered to herself, "Finally."

In truth, this was what Lilith had been waiting for. For Adam to use the Grail.

Everything up until this point, the taunts, the prolonged battle, it had all been to goad him into bringing out the one weapon she truly needed to see.

Her expression remained mocking, but inwardly, her mind moved.

She reached out mentally across the battlefield toward Asahel, using a connection she had established earlier when they were still in his isolated sanctuary within Eden.

It was an enchantment she had placed on him then, a telepathic link prepared specifically for this exact moment.

"Now, my son" Lilith’s voice echoed directly into Asahel’s mind. "Act now."
