"Zhou Ni! Look quickly!"

The Little Cat Girl stood on tiptoe. Her bare feet, snow-white and delicate, were quite eye-catching. She tilted her body slightly and lifted the bottle in her hands high for Zhou Li to see. "Three Bright Bugs!"

Zhou Li counted and said softly, "There are five, actually."

"Three!"

"Five." Zhou Li gently tapped the bottle. The light from the Bright Bugs reflected in his eyes as he counted slowly, "One, two, three, four, five."

"F-f-five!" The Little Cat Girl blinked. "One, two, three... five."

"After three comes four, and then five follows four."

"After three comes death!"

"Correct," Zhou Li replied.

He helplessly withdrew his gaze.

If the Elm King couldn't even educate a Little Cat Girl, how was he supposed to govern a kingdom?

Was everything up to the demons' own sense of responsibility?

Lord Dumpling was oblivious to his inner thoughts. Still excited, she bounced back into the forest to catch more Bright Bugs, then brought them back to Zhou Li to show him and learn to count.

These Bright Bugs were quite interesting. While flying about, they exhibited a rich array of expressions, displaying curiosity, confusion, happiness, or anger. But as soon as they were captured in the bottle, they calmed down immediately. They would sit still inside, neither scared nor sad, just sitting there, staring at the people outside the bottle.

It was as if they had grown accustomed to being caught.

The sounds from the distance were growing louder and more frequent.

Many demons had already started to clash. The closer one got to the high mountain, the louder the sounds became.

The powerful Great Demons were all converging on the mountain, hoping to reach the summit quickly. This was because if the battle reached a stalemate and no victor could be decided, the winner would be determined by who had stayed atop the mountain the longest. Most of these Great Demons encountered each other at the foot or halfway up the mountain and immediately began to fight.

Master Ming climbed to the treetops and peeked out quietly.

The Great Demons came in all shapes and sizes, their abilities incredibly varied. Their battles were full of special effects, making for quite a spectacle. Zhou Li even felt that the Little demons who came here did so just to watch the Great Demons fight.

It was truly captivating, much more so than watching Old monsters fight.

While they lay low, they also encountered some demons. However, the first ones they met, Mingzhu and Lurang, were the strongest. The demons they encountered later were progressively weaker and easily dealt with by Huai Xu. Some Little demons even passed by without noticing their presence. From these encounters, Zhou Li realized that this assembly was quite different from what he had initially thought, and also somewhat different from what Huai Xu had expected.

While Shui Zhenzhu's book was indeed valuable, most demons hadn't come for a "treasure hunt." The assembly was more like a game, or a party—a feast for the battle-hungry.

A good number of demons had only recently awakened. Their heads ached from excessive sleep, and they were dying of boredom. So, the moment they heard of the assembly, they rushed over to participate, much like peasants flocking to a medieval fair.

The Great Demons were having a blast fighting, and the Little demons were also enjoying the spectacle.

Some, however, were indeed there for Shui Zhenzhu's book. Half of this group came out of curiosity about the first volume of the bamboo scroll, wanting to see what the esteemed Master Shui Zhen had described as a 'startling secret.' The other half were admirers of Master Shui Zhen. They respected his virtue and revered his scholarship, and thus wished to behold his posthumous work. For demons, this was a very meaningful event.

So it was called the Contest of Speedy Reading.

Perhaps because of this, no demons resorted to plotting schemes; everyone was simply rushing towards the summit.

Of course, even if it were a real struggle, most demons would hardly take shortcuts. Demons tend to be straightforward; they take things at face value and disdain underhanded tactics.

Old monsters like that were, after all, in the minority.

So the strategy worked perfectly.

When Tuanzi had grown tired of playing and had let all the Bright Bugs go home, the battle in the distance had already spread to the mountain's summit. Most demons had been eliminated. The only fighters remaining were Great Demons, and not many of them were left, each exceptionally skilled in combat.

They were very strict about the rules, automatically pairing up to battle. Some Great Demons were so large that Zhou Li could see them bowing to each other before their fights began.

"Only four remain," Huai Xu observed, looking into the distance.

"Are you confident?" Zhou Li asked.

"It's hard to say. It depends on what condition they're in after their fights," Huai Xu frowned deeply. "Of the four, I'm confident about two. That largest one is hard to judge. He's too big, and aside from his eyes, I can hardly find any weaknesses. I have no way to deal with him... but that's purely because he's too beefy."

"And the remaining one, is that the one someone previously said you couldn't beat?"

"Hmph..."

The Old monster snorted lightly. He clearly preferred not to elaborate, hoping they would inflict heavy losses on each other, leaving the sole survivor barely alive.

In just ten minutes, the contest on the summit had advanced to the final match.

One of the finalists was the massively large one Huai Xu had mentioned before: a giant snake over a kilometer long. It was the biggest demon Zhou Li had seen to date, at least a hundred times larger than an Evil God. The other finalist was so small Zhou Li couldn't see it, even with a 50x zoom; it was simply too far away.

The giant snake's voice, like rolling thunder, echoed over the forest. He was speaking to his opponent. Even from afar, his voice was clearly discernible, but his opponent's was not:

"It is my honor to cross hands with you, Lord Yue Yin."

"No need to rest. Let's start right away."

"You are too confident, Lord Yue Yin. You haven't rested either. I might not necessarily lose."

"Alright."

After the giant snake nodded, the battle between the two erupted.

The forest night still held a faint glow. It was nowhere near as bright as day, but visibility was not an issue, especially for observing the enormous creatures in the distance.
