Chapter 506: Chapter 485: The Final Time

The fight in the movie grew increasingly intense, sound and visual effects maxed out. Zhou Li could no longer see anything else around him, nor could he hear anything else.

It must be ending soon, right?

Zhou Li thought, still holding Brother Nan’s hand on his own leg, gently pinching the pads of her fingers, savoring their soft and tender touch.

Brother Nan, on the other hand, watched intently, her head slightly tilted upward, her eyes reflecting the large screen before her, unblinking.

The side of justice won, and the movie finally ended. The theater lights came on, and the room grew louder.

Only then did Brother Nan slowly turn her head to Zhou Li and calmly ask, "Was it fun?"

"It was fun," Zhou Li answered honestly.

"You’ve been playing with it for over an hour. Aren’t you tired of it?" Brother Nan was somewhat puzzled. Her right hand was still in Zhou Li’s grasp, so she held up her left hand, examining it repeatedly. She’d never realized there was anything fun about it before.

"Not tired of it at all."

"Then... was the movie good?"

"It was alright."

"You..."

Brother Nan shook her head and looked up again, checking for any post-credit scenes. "Did you pick these front seats just so you could play with my hand without anyone seeing?" she asked. "My neck is sore from looking up, and my eyes are blurry."

Zhou Li listened silently, not responding.

In his original plan, it wasn’t just about playing with her hand; he had other activities in mind. But who knew this movie would captivate Brother Nan so much? He felt it would be rude to distract her when she was so engrossed. Besides, a superhero movie wasn’t exactly conducive to a romantic atmosphere. This kind of movie is best for eating popcorn. If I’d known, I should have picked a terrible movie... I’ll remember this for next time.

They got up, left the theater, and went to the restrooms in the corridor—standard procedure after a movie.

Guys are usually quicker than girls. Zhou Li came out first and waited for Brother Nan in the corridor, sneakily glancing at the other moviegoers.

Today was a bit special, after all; most of the attendees were couples. Almost everyone walking past was part of a pair, from young sweethearts to those who looked like they were already in the workforce or even married. But they generally had one thing in common.

The girls were all holding their boyfriends’ hands or had their arms linked with theirs, looking quite lovey-dovey.

Another young couple walked past Zhou Li. This pair was even more inseparable, the girl practically hanging off the guy—just like Tuanzi stubbornly clung to Zhou Li, refusing to walk on her own. They discussed the movie in hushed whispers, drawing out the end of every sentence.

Zhou Li watched, blinking.

Just then, SLAP! Someone hit his butt with considerable force.

A figure quickly darted out from behind him, eyebrows slightly raised, following his gaze. "What are you looking at?"

"Nothing."

"Let’s go!"

"Okay."

SLAP! Another one.

Zhou Li was baffled. He rubbed his backside and slowed down to walk behind Brother Nan, hoping to avoid further attacks. But it was futile—Brother Nan circled back just to hit him. Her intent was clear.

SLAP... Zhou Li glanced around, then whispered, embarrassed, "Stop it, there are too many people around."

"HEHE..." Brother Nan grinned. "Call me Wonder Woman!"

"You’re being so childish..."

"Hurry up and say it, say it!"

"Wonder Woman."

"Call me Diana!"

"Diana."

"That’s more like it."

Pleased, Brother Nan stepped forward and linked arms with Zhou Li, just like the other girls, walking shoulder to shoulder with him. In a hushed, sly voice, she asked, "So, after you, like, master your spells, does that mean you’ll become Wonder Woman?"

"Can I choose not to be Wonder Woman?"

"You know what I mean."

"Actually, I’m already pretty powerful."

"TSK, TSK..." Brother Nan clicked her tongue, a pained expression on her face. "No, I’m getting a bit jealous."

"Jealous of what?" Zhou Li asked.

"I can only fantasize, pretending I have superpowers, then go like, PEW PEW PEW, SWISH SWISH..." Brother Nan temporarily let go of Zhou Li’s arm and made a few overly dramatic, childish gestures. Then she took his arm again and continued nonchalantly, "But you guys actually have superpowers, so I’m very jealous."

"But you’re the Child of Destiny." Zhou Li glanced around. There were many people about, which made him rather embarrassed. "A lot of people are watching."

"Let them watch, it’s free." Brother Nan paused. "Even the Child of Destiny doesn’t have superpowers."

"You’re blessed and don’t even know it." Zhou Li thought for a moment. "It’s like in a company, you’re the boss’s daughter, and we’re the workers. Then you come to us saying you’re envious because we can program."

"Whoa, you’re using analogies now!" Brother Nan gave Zhou Li a thumbs-up. "Impressive, very impressive..."

"It’s all thanks to Brother Nan’s excellent guidance."

"HAHA!"

The two walked out of the mall. It was quieter outside, and the cold night air hit them, making Brother Nan instinctively shrink her neck. But she quickly composed herself, pretending not to be cold and holding Zhou Li’s arm even tighter. Zhou Li could vaguely feel the soft pressure of her chest against his arm.

"Are you cold?" Brother Nan asked.

"Not cold," Zhou Li answered.

"If you’re cold, I can take off my coat for you," Brother Nan said.

"I can program," Zhou Li said.

"...Never mind if you’re not cold then!" Brother Nan turned her head and continued, "My grandma called me last night. She said she dreamed I was getting married and hinted that I should bring my boyfriend home to meet her."

"Is your grandma doing okay?" Zhou Li asked.

"Not too well. She’s been in the hospital lately," Brother Nan said, sounding a little helpless. "That’s just what happens when people get old."

"We’ll get old too..."

"I won’t," Brother Nan said, her expression serene. "In a few years, when I turn 22, I’ll stop aging. Every year after that, I’ll still be 22, unless I decide I want to age again."

"I’ve heard that before, something similar. Only she was 26," Zhou Li said with a smile.

"AH—" Brother Nan suddenly yelled.

Zhou Li was startled. He looked over to see Brother Nan staring up at the night sky, shouting—

"I want superpowers!"

Zhou Li instinctively glanced around.

A taxi slowly drove past. The driver’s side window was down, and the cabbie turned to look at them.

In the distance, a couple nestled together also turned to look, drawn by the sound.

"I want to be Superman!"

"I want to be Wonder Woma— Hey, what are you doing?!"

Zhou Li dragged Brother Nan away. Her eyes were wide, and she was grinning as he pulled her along, demanding to know what he was doing and threatening to hit him. But when Zhou Li finally stopped, she fell silent, just standing there grinning foolishly.

Zhou Li patted her head. "So childish..."

Brother Nan reached out and patted his butt.

What the...?

Seeing his reaction, Brother Nan grinned mischievously, quickly reached out again, and not only patted his butt but also gave it a squeeze.

"What are you doing?" Zhou Li exclaimed, mortified.

"Teasing you," Brother Nan winked. "I saw on TikTok that these are the last few days when teasing guys isn’t illegal. Next year, when the new law comes out, teasing guys will be against the law too, so I have to make the most of it!"

"..."

Zhou Li could only conclude that Brother Nan was nuts.

But he was powerless against her. He could only wrap an arm tightly around her shoulders, forcibly guiding her forward while restraining her movements to prevent any more chaos.

If they actually got married someday, he couldn’t imagine how much of a handful she’d be.
