My Demon Friends-Chapter 442 - 438: Let Auntie Inject You
Early morning.
The entire dormitory area was very quiet, with only the distant clang of something and the crisp chirping of birds.
Zhou Li, as usual, got up early and went to the balcony to wash up.
The other three in the dormitory were still sleeping soundly.
POP!
A figure appeared out of nowhere, sitting casually on the railing of the balcony and swinging her legs. Seeing Zhou Li bending over and washing his face, all covered in foam, she became curious. She stopped swinging her legs, leaned forward, and stared, "Does it feel like washing hands with soap after you’re done? All squeaky when you rub it."
The sudden appearance of a female voice next to him startled Zhou Li, who had his eyes closed and was caught off guard.
Huai Xu couldn’t help but squint her eyes and laugh.
The longer Zhou Li knew her, the harder it became for her to startle him. But this was clearly a very fun game for her; she even deliberately tried to scare him sometimes, though her chances of success were dwindling.
So she fell into thought—it seemed that to successfully startle him, she would have to wait until Zhou Li was concentrated on doing something else and make a noise very close to him.
Soon after, Zhou Li rinsed off the foam and dried his face with a towel, then glanced over at her.
Clearly, today she had taken on a girlish appearance, opting for a pure and innocent style, with bright, sparkling eyes that made her look like a girl unacquainted with worldly matters and untainted by dust—probably as a sort of retaliatory state of mind after having been a mature male in the Capital for many consecutive days.
Huai Xu tentatively reached out a finger, pale and slender, and placed it on Zhou Li’s face, gently rubbing it.
"Eh?" she murmured, surprised.
"It’s smooth," Zhou Li said flatly and softly.
"It’s different from soap?" Huai Xu was curious.
"This isn’t soap," Zhou Li replied, not wanting to engage in much conversation with the demon that didn’t wash her face. He rubbed the towel, wrung it out, and hung it up, keeping it away from the socks Chen Yang had hung up. "What do you want?"
"How come you’re not afraid that your roommates will hear you talking to me now?" Huai Xu blinked, her curious expression a mix of cunning cuteness and innocence that could probably captivate many an otaku, if only they could see her. Too bad Zhou Li had become numb to her varied appearances and personalities.
"..." Zhou Li didn’t answer.
"You’re still ignoring me! HMPH!" Huai Xu pouted in a very girlish manner, her acting skills on point. "You and Li Daimao played games all day yesterday and didn’t call me. I haven’t forgiven you yet!"
"You’re too strong."
"?? I didn’t complain about you guys being noobs, and you guys are complaining about me being too strong?" The Old monster didn’t understand.
"Did you look at my stats?"
"I did," Huai Xu looked Zhou Li up and down. "If this continues, you’ll soon become as obsessed with gaming as Li Daimao. You still need to control yourself, not let it affect your college studies, otherwise, if you can’t graduate, Aunt Jiang will be angry to death. Oh, and you can’t let it affect your spell studies either."
"Playing in the afternoon?"
"Yes!"
"Playing with me is different." Huai Xu frowned slightly, the girlish face with a mature tone. "I will supervise you and make you stop at the right time."
"..."
Zhou Li emptied the basin and returned to the dormitory.
The Old monster appeared again on Zhou Li’s bed, sitting on the edge of the bed with her slender legs dangling through the railing, dazzlingly white in the dim light of the morning, elbows resting on the railing, chin propped up, watching Zhou Li move around the dormitory.
Only Chang Xiaoxiang had awoken in the dormitory.
Lying on his side, Chang Xiaoxiang peered out from under the covers and sleepily said to Zhou Li, "Dorm head, were you talking on the phone while washing up...?"
"Mm-hmm."
"Aren’t you afraid of water getting into your earphones?"
"It’s fine," Zhou Li said gently. "You single dogs wouldn’t understand."
"..."
Chang Xiaoxiang felt deeply wounded.
Meanwhile, laughter came from above, from Huai Xu.
Zhou Li pretended not to hear and continued to ask Chang Xiaoxiang, "Are you going to class?"
"I am."
"What about the other two?"
"It’s obvious."
"Oh..." Zhou Li shook his head.
There was only one class today, early in the morning, and many students were forced to get up early, moaning and groaning about it. Some lazy students simply skipped class, treating today like a weekend.
Zhou Li was going to attend.
The class was Plant Science, which he really enjoyed.
Faking the actions of shooing away insects or brushing off cobwebs, he pushed the Old monster’s restless legs to the side. He took a Plant Science book from the shelf, put a pen in his pocket, and then asked Chang Xiaoxiang, "Are you going to the cafeteria for breakfast?"
"Two baozi, thank you."
"Want soy milk?"
"I have milk."
"Oh..." Zhou Li then left with the book in his arms.
The early morning was always great: the air clear and the temperature just right, the whole world seemed to be just waking up, including the pedestrians by the road, the small flowers covered in dew, and the rising sun. So Zhou Li loved to get up early and would usually go out. At school, he might go to the cafeteria for breakfast or sometimes to the library. In Yan City, he would perhaps go for a morning run, head to Brother Nan’s home for noodles—though now he was mooching the noodles. At Yin Yang Temple, it was about taking a walk along the mountain path. Anyway, it all made him feel very good.
Getting up in the early morning and at noon, even if the amount of sleep was the same, felt very different.
Upon leaving the dormitory area, Huai Xu popped out from a corner, full of joy, bounding over to join him. But the girl was too beautiful and delicate, almost unreal, so the moment she appeared, she firmly captured the attention of the students on the road, both male and female.
Some were snapped out of their sleepiness instantly. Others grew more bewildered as they watched, feeling like they were in a dream. Consequently, Zhou Li also received a lot of attention.
He suddenly remembered what Brother Nan had told him the day before yesterday—recently, people have been posting on a forum about encountering incredibly beautiful women who could outshine major stars, and each one was different, sparking a lot of resonance among readers. They unanimously agreed that Cai University was a hidden dragon and crouching tiger, with beauties as numerous as clouds. Unfortunately, these beauties would only appear for a day before vanishing and never being seen again.
"Are you going to the cafeteria too?" Zhou Li asked unnaturally.
"Of course!" Huai Xu looked at Zhou Li, puzzled. "What’s the matter? You don’t want me to go with you?"
"No... What do you want to eat?"
"Dumplings."
"Okay."
"You’re going the wrong way," Huai Xu reminded, pointing in another direction with her Qianqian little finger. "The cafeteria is that way."
"We’re going to Ziyuan Canteen to eat."
"Why?"
"The dumplings there are delicious."
"Really?"
"Yeah." Zhou Li nodded, even bringing in Brother Nan as a reference. "Brother Nan said so."
"You’re such a good liar, you don’t even blink." Huai Xu had fully figured out Zhou Li by now. "You’re definitely afraid of being seen by your classmates with a girl prettier than your girlfriend at your side, which would be bad for your reputation. Then they would quickly link that to the fact that you’re often seen with different unbeatable beauties, and gradually, your reputation would be tarnished."
"... You’re so full of yourself."
"Isn’t that true?"
"Not at all!" Zhou Li denied it solemnly.
「After the meal.」
Zhou Li went to the classroom for his class, sitting next to Chang Xiaoxiang, because Brother Nan was the kind of student who treated today like the weekend.
The botany teacher was truly interesting, like a long science talk show, with a vivid and amusing delivery that satisfied his thirst for knowledge and his curiosity, and sometimes even his craving for the bizarre. It was like watching "Animal World" as a kid, or some well-done science talk shows.
Zhou Li thought that Chen Yang and Liu Zhengming were missing out big time by not attending this class simply because the teacher didn’t like to call the roll.
The class flew by quickly.
By the time he returned to the dorm, it was past ten o’clock. After turning on his computer and finishing the last episode of the Black Robe Patrol Team with Huai Xu, Brother Nan sent him an invitation for lunch.
The two met downstairs and headed towards the cafeteria together.
While walking, Zhou Li shared his experience of going to breakfast in the morning with Brother Nan and confided his true inner thoughts, which were exactly as Huai Xu had guessed. Yet Brother Nan not only didn’t console him, but laughed heartily and even encouraged him to take Huai Xu to Nanyuan Cafeteria more often, to build up a reputation as a big womanizer. Then, she would stand by him regardless, claiming that it would be cool.
Since they arrived early, the cafeteria wasn’t very crowded yet, so they wandered around looking for dishes they found appealing.
"They have chili chicken today. I’ll get that. What about you?"
"I’ll have the same."
"Alright!"
Brother Nan passed the tray in, swiped her card, and quickly glanced at the cafeteria worker serving the food—although everyone was wearing loose white coats, hats, and masks, you could still make out that this was a rather slim woman.
Then, with a typical friendly smile, Brother Nan said, "Auntie, please give me a serving of this, this, and a tiger-skin green pepper too."
The serving auntie in the window obviously paused, then fell into thought.
She took up a spoon and carefully scooped a little onto Brother Nan’s plate in mere moments.
The portion was tiny.
And she avoided the meat in the meat dishes.
The auntie looked up silently at Brother Nan.
Brother Nan was also stunned; this was her first time encountering such a situation. Normally aunties in the cafeteria not only recognized her but also liked her a lot, always giving her extra meat.
Was this one new?
But she wasn’t shy, so after a brief hesitation, she continued, "Auntie, can I have a bit more meat, please?"
The auntie scooped another two spoonfuls of meat.
Then she continued to stare at Brother Nan, making no move to hand the plate back to her.
Brother Nan was somewhat unsure what the issue was.
Was the auntie inexperienced in her job?
No matter what, it’s a sin to pass up a good deal, so Brother Nan pointed at the chili chicken dish once more, "Auntie, scoop me some more chicken, and I want that drumstick too, I like chicken legs."
The auntie complied with each request.
"That’s enough," Brother Nan declared.
Only then did the serving auntie hand her the plate.
"Thank you, Auntie," Brother Nan replied.
The auntie nodded in acknowledgment.
Next up was Zhou Li.
As Zhou Li passed his plate in, Brother Nan also spoke up for him, "Auntie, give him more meat too, he’s so skinny."
The nearby students couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy.
But the auntie remained unmoved, serving the same small amount as before. Then, holding the plate, she waited, as if expecting Zhou Li to make a request. And it had to be Zhou Li himself asking, not counting what his girlfriend had said for him.
"Ah..."
As Zhou Li looked up to meet the auntie’s gaze, the words were on the tip of his tongue, but then he suddenly stalled.
This auntie looked quite young from her eyes and eyebrows.
And what’s with the baozi-shaped face?
Then the auntie lifted her chin slightly, glancing behind him as if to hurry him along, since others were waiting in line.
But Zhou Li took this gesture as—Call her ’Auntie’ quickly!
