Chapter 122.2: Preaching, Supreme

Outside City of No Return, three Mythwalkers exchanged bewildered looks.

Li Yunzhi said, “This sermon started too casually.”

He was Wang Gai’s closest friend. When Wang Gai entered the city, Li Yunzhi had warned him, fearful that he was walking into a trap. Yet Wang Gai still entered—for his own sake and his family’s.

Li Yunzhi came under orders from the Supreme of Great Sorrow City. He was to observe. He had thought his presence would make the city guardian restrain from any schemes.

As for being born sacred and being able to preach Supreme-level enlightenment... It was too absurd. Not even the White Supreme or the Supreme One could do that.

Bearded Big Thinker mused, “It’s strange. Why is the city guardian doing this? What's the point of such an easily exposed scam? To trap a few Mythwalkers? He’s a new Supreme. Why bother?”

The woman asked, “Is it possible that he really is born sacred?”

Li Yunzhi shook his head. “Even if that's the case, he shouldn't be able to help others reach the Supreme realm. Even the White Supreme cannot impart the Origin’s enlightenment. The Origin must be grasped personally, it is one’s own path.”

Bearded Big Thinker nodded dramatically. “Makes sense. How can those four not understand such a simple truth?”

Li Yunzhi explained, “Cultivation is wrestling against heaven. Origins are limited. The world cannot produce that many Supremes! If he really could help others become Supreme, he’d incur the wrath of heaven. Divine punishment would befall him!”

No matter how he reasoned, the conclusion was the same. That man was full of nonsense, either a conman or a madman.

Thus, they waited until night fell.

Li Yunzhi stretched. “Looks like we’ll wait here a long time. If his sermon lasts for ten years, and my idiot brother dies of old age inside, you still couldn't claim his sermon was ineffective.”

Just then, the woman frowned. “Huh? The city guardian has left the city... Did the sermon end?”

The three were stunned.

Li Yunzhi smiled awkwardly. “Well... the city guardian is truly unpredictable.”

He’d just said the city guardian would drag things out for years and then it ended.

Bearded Big Thinker asked curiously, “Did it work?”

“Enlightenment isn’t that easy. Even if it worked, it would take months—” Li Yunzhi froze mid-sentence.

On the city wall, Wang Gai was radiating a terrifying aura.

Li Yunzhi's eyes widened as he shouted, “Origin!”

He recognized it immediately. It was the Origin enlightenment he had yearned for hundreds of years!

The woman’s eyes widened. “It really is the Origin!”

“Holy!” Bearded Big Thinker slapped himself. “Li Yunzhi, your best friend, he’s not a plant, is he?”

“He’s not!” Li Yunzhi snapped. “That idiot has worse talent than I do! Worse luck too! How did he suddenly become a Supreme!?”

Before coming, Li Yunzhi had wished his friend a bright future. However, after seeing Wang Gai’s development, his heart twisted with sourness.

It was the fear of seeing a brother live in lack, and the deeper fear if he ever lived in abundance.

Bearded Big Thinker said seriously, “This is bizarre. Not even I can figure out the logic. We should report this to the Supremes.”

The woman glared. “Report what!? We’re going to join the Blood Palace!”

Bearded Big Thinker said anxiously, “But the Supreme sent us here! If we don’t complete it, we’ll be punished!”

Li Yunzhi said, eyes blazing with excitement, “Hmph. If we become Supremes too, who could punish us?”

The woman agreed. They had long forgotten their mission. This was their chance to become Supreme.

“Go!” the woman said, turning into a streak of light toward the city.

Li Yunzhi followed.

Bearded Big Thinker froze in confusion. “Wait...they’re going in to collect information... right? To complete the mission?”

Unwilling to fall behind, he hurried after them.

A few moments later, the trio appeared outside the City of No Return.

Chen Huan smiled faintly at them. “Today’s sermon is over. The Blood Master said he finds it troublesome. He will only conduct the next sermon when there are ten people. The one after that might require twenty, or a hundred, or even a thousand.”

“What!?” Li Yunzhi was disappointed, then quickly steadied himself. “Makes sense. Preaching such matters cannot be too easy.”

Chen Huan left them there and returned to the city.

The three stared at the four on the wall, each radiating Origin aura. The trio’s eyes gleamed with envy.

“All of them... Origin aura...”

Soon, all four would step into the Supreme realm.

Li Yunzhi gazed up at the sky, thinking deeply.

Bearded Big Thinker also did the same, but saw nothing. “Li Yunzhi, what are you looking at?”

“I’m looking at why the heavens have not sent divine punishment.”

Even though the Blood Master’s actions were defying heaven itself, yet no retribution had fallen.

Bearded Big Thinker asked, “What divine punishment? Also, weren’t we supposed to gather intel? Why are you trying to join the Blood Palace ?”

The woman snapped. “Your mind is cooked by inner demons! Of course I want to become Supreme!”

Li Yunzhi urged. "Let’s go! We must return to Great Sorrow City and gather ten people to hear the Blood Master’s preaching!”

His friend would become Supreme before him. He couldn’t allow that gap to widen!

One day later. Great Sorrow City.

Huang Mengling widened her eyes in surprise. “Supreme... truly Supreme? How is this possible?”

Moments ago, news spread through the city. Wang Gai and the others had comprehended the Origin, and were condensing their Origin Divine Technique. Once completed, they would become true Supremes.

No way!

She had seen Wang Gai only days before! How could a dying man suddenly comprehend the Origin?

Huang Mengling couldn’t believe it. “Is the information accurate?”

“It is absolutely true,” said one of Great Sorrow City’s own Supreme.

Huang Mengling fell silent. She had also seen the City of No Return's guardian a few days ago. He had appeared no different from Chen Huan. How had he suddenly stepped into the Supreme realm?

“Something strange is happening!” Huang Mengling paced, finally making up her mind. “I have to report it to Senior Brother!”

She had no way to contact the White Supreme directly.

The Supreme nodded. “Also, recently, the Demon Tamer Supremes of Thousand Cities seems to have vanished. The Purple Daoist is missing as well. There may be a plot. Perhaps it’s connected to the City of No Return.”

Huang Mengling was shocked. “What? Those Supremes are missing?”

She remembered Chen Huan’s words. He had claimed the city guardian had killed the Purple Daoist and a group of Supremed. Naturally, she had dismissed it.

But now the Purple Daoist is missing? Could he have truly been killed? But he is a Great Supreme! Not even Senior Brother could kill one easily. How could a newly-ascended Supreme kill a Great Supreme? Or is there some other cause?

Huang Mengling rubbed her temples. Finally she said, “Supreme Yin Tian, send someone to investigate. See whether the Purple Daoist has actually fallen.”

Supreme Yin Tian was stunned. “What!? Fallen!?”

That was a Great Supreme, one standing at the peak of this world.

“And one more thing. In the coming days, the Thirteen Northern Demons may pass through the 108,000 Thousand Cities, possibly crossing Great Sorrow City. Great Sorrow City must not obstruct them. This is my senior brother’s will.”

Her senior brother’s will likely meant the White Supreme’s will.

“Of course,” Supreme Yin Tian said. Compared to the first matter, this second one was trivial.

Huang Mengling nodded. “Then I’ll trouble you.”

Supreme Yin Tian left, still suspicious.

Alone in the palace, Huang Mengling held her head. Everything had spiraled beyond expectation. She didn't know whether this was an auspicious event, or a looming disaster.

She murmured to herself, “I hope Senior Brother comes and resolves this.”

She could not possibly resolve this herself. How could the Mythwalker she saw days ago underwent such development? She just couldn't understand. Certainly, he was handsome and had some presence, but...
