My Computer Leads to an Instance Dungeon-Chapter 73: Unafraid of Death?
A Magic Flame Arrow, trailing a tail of fire, shot straight toward Fang Zhen.
Without a second thought, Fang Zhen did a sideways roll, diving from his position and tumbling across the ground.
The Flaming Arrow actually curved slightly in mid-air, continuing its pursuit.
'No way. It can lock on and track me?'
After dodging with the sideways roll, Fang Zhen was shocked to see the Flaming Arrow veer toward him.
However, the Flaming Arrow only adjusted its trajectory slightly. It seemed to be tracking him, but it wasn't very agile, and it flew past, missing his right arm by less than half a meter.
It was off by just a dozen or so centimeters.
Even wearing the asbestos suit, Fang Zhen could feel a scorching heat on his right arm, a testament to the Flaming Arrow's extreme temperature.
BOOM!
The Flaming Arrow struck the cavern wall behind him, sending stone fragments flying. The small pebbles peppered Fang Zhen's back, and it was quite painful.
Fang Zhen's heart, which had been in his throat, settled a bit. This was immediately followed by a wave of lingering fear, and a cold sweat broke out over his entire body.
'I almost took that right in the chest.'
Fang Zhen had never tried the "smashing a stone slab on one's chest" trick, but it always looked dangerous—not something a non-professional should imitate. Taking a Flaming Arrow to the chest was probably even more perilous.
'With that kind of explosive force, even if the asbestos suit could block the flames, my sternum would've definitely been fractured, and I'd for sure have internal injuries from the blast.'
Fang Zhen didn't dare underestimate the Dragon-Scale Dogman Priest in the slightest.
'This thing's damage is seriously high!'
Taking a deep breath, Fang Zhen did his best to calm his tense nerves while looking in the Dogman Priest's direction.
Through the thermal imager's display, the Dogman Priest was moving with an incredibly exaggerated gait, constantly weaving in a serpentine pattern through Mine Cave C.
At this point, Fang Zhen was completely certain: the Dogman Priest had dark vision.
Fang Zhen had been hiding in complete darkness with no light source around, yet the Dogman Priest had immediately fired a Magic Flame Arrow at him. The Magic was practically pinpoint accurate. It would be unbelievable if it didn't have dark vision.
Now, the Dogman Priest also seemed to realize that the distance to Fang Zhen was too great. The Magic Flame Arrow was powerful enough, but the travel time made it too easy to dodge. So, it actually started charging, looking like it wanted to get in close.
Fang Zhen felt the pressure mount.
The Dogman Priest's Flaming Arrow wasn't particularly fast; it took about a second and a half to cover fifty meters. He also estimated it had a wind-up animation. After missing, it hadn't immediately fired a second one, which meant there was either a cooldown or a recovery animation.
Seeing the Dogman Priest charge, he thought it might be fine if it went for pure melee combat. But the damned thing seemed intelligent; it might not actually engage him up close. The most likely scenario was that it would close to a certain distance, then kite him from the opposite direction, firing another Flaming Arrow from within twenty meters.
Fang Zhen wasn't confident he could dodge a Flaming Arrow at a twenty-meter range.
He made a split-second decision and immediately activated the Large Laser Sighting Device on his Cheetah Crossbow.
A green laser beam cut through the darkness of the mine. At the same time, Fang Zhen switched on the high-intensity flashlight on his belt.
The beam of light shot out. The Dogman Priest, which had been advancing with the steps of a shaman performing a ritual, was hit square in the face by the intense light. Dazzled, it howled and threw an arm up to shield its eyes.
Fang Zhen's Cheetah Hunting Crossbow was already loaded with a Crossbow Arrow, which hadn't fallen out while he was dodging.
He aimed the laser dot directly at the Dogman Priest's chest, and without any fine-tuning, pulled the trigger.
SWOOSH!
The Crossbow Arrow shot out.
This arrow should have pierced the Dogman Priest's chest, but the priest's movement patterns and physical state were different from a typical Kobold's. It was constantly shivering and taking "spiritual" steps, like a ritualistic dancer, almost as if it were Chen Hegao himself, having mastered Mad Dog Fist to the point of automatic evasion. Even without its sight, its body continued to dodge and twitch.
The Crossbow Arrow went off-target. Instead of passing through the Dogman Priest's chest, it struck its left shoulder.
"AWOOO~!" The Dogman Priest let out a wretched cry.
The Crossbow Arrow pierced the Dogman Priest's left shoulder. It couldn't help but take a few steps back, its gaze toward Fang Zhen growing even more hateful and vicious.
Fang Zhen turned and ran, sprinting toward the tunnel connecting Mine Cave C and Mine Cave B.
Fang Zhen didn't know what other trump cards the Dogman Priest might have, but at this distance, it wasn't safe to reload his Hunting Crossbow. The priest could close the gap in the time it took to draw the string.
Although he didn't know why the Dogman Priest was so intent on getting close, Fang Zhen was sure it couldn't be anything good.
Fang Zhen ran for the tunnel entrance. On the other side, Quade was waiting to provide support, and he had more equipment.
As he ran, his hands didn't stop moving. He quickly reloaded the Hunting Crossbow and drew his last Hunting Arrow.
The Dogman Priest gave chase from behind.
Unfortunately, when it came to speed, the Dogman Priest was still a step slower than Fang Zhen.
Fang Zhen had long legs, a fast pace, and explosive power. He took off at the speed of a hundred-meter dash. The Dogman Priest tried its best to keep up, but the distance between them only grew wider.
In just six or seven seconds, Fang Zhen had covered more than fifty meters and reached the entrance to the tunnel.
Suddenly!
Fang Zhen abruptly spun around. His body slid back several meters as he threw his left leg out sideways like a brake, performing a half-turn with a drift-like effect on the ground.
After stopping, he was in a half-squat, his left leg extended for balance and his right leg bent at the knee.
His gaze was calm. With his left hand, he lifted the high-intensity flashlight at his waist and made a slight adjustment.
The beam from the high-intensity flashlight hit the pursuing Dogman Priest in the face.
Even if the Dogman Priest's vision was adapted to the dark, it couldn't handle the bright light. It once again raised its arm to shield its eyes.
Fang Zhen supported the Hunting Crossbow with his left hand. The dot from the Large Laser Sighting Device landed on the Dogman Priest's body, and he pulled the trigger.
The Crossbow Arrow shot forth.
SWOOSH!
THWACK!
The Hunting Crossbow's initial velocity was astonishing. Almost instantly after being fired, the arrow pierced the Dogman Priest's right chest.
The Dogman Priest shrieked, letting out a bloodcurdling howl.
"Did you really think I was running because I was afraid of you?"
Fang Zhen gave a cold smile. Just as he was about to reload again, he suddenly saw flames wreath the Dogman Priest's left hand once more.
"Flaming Arrow!"
He instantly assessed the situation and realized that the time it took to reload the Hunting Crossbow was longer than the wind-up for the Dogman Priest's Flaming Arrow.
Fang Zhen spun around and leaped into the tunnel in a single step.
He ran forward swiftly.
Two seconds later, Fang Zhen heard an explosion behind him.
It was the Flaming Arrow striking the cavern wall.
Logically, this should be when the Dogman Priest's skill was on cooldown. Turning back to execute a Reversal Spear would be a good option.
But Fang Zhen felt something was off.
The Dogman Priest was intelligent; that much was clear from its previous actions.
But now, the Dogman Priest was recklessly charging him. A magic-user insisting on closing to melee range, relentlessly pursuing him.
It was illogical, and Fang Zhen's intuition told him something was wrong.
Fang Zhen already had the upper hand. At a moment like this, it was better to play it safe.
He decided to use the tunnel's terrain to his advantage for the next engagement.
While he was thinking, Fang Zhen had already rushed out of the tunnel and into Mine Cave B.
At the entrance to the tunnel in Mine Cave B, Quade was waiting. He was holding a torch and looked a bit weary, but he perked up instantly upon seeing Fang Zhen.
"Molotov cocktail!"
Fang Zhen flipped up the lens of his thermal imager and shouted.
Quade immediately picked up a pre-prepared Molotov Cocktail from the ground and quickly handed it over.
Fang Zhen grabbed the Molotov Cocktail. He didn't even bother with his Windproof Lighter, simply using the flame from the torch Quade was holding to light it. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
The sounds told Fang Zhen that the Dogman Priest was still in pursuit and had already entered the tunnel, closing in fast.
Fang Zhen didn't know why the Dogman Priest was so fixated on chasing him; its combat style was bordering on berserk.
Regardless, Fang Zhen was treating this like a lion hunting a rabbit—he would use his full strength.
In his line of sight, the Dogman Priest burst around the corner of the tunnel, now visible to the naked eye.
When enemies meet, their eyes burn with hatred. The Dogman Priest howled madly and charged straight down the last ten-plus meters of the tunnel.
Fang Zhen met it head-on, hurling the Molotov Cocktail straight at it!
