My Computer Leads to an Instance Dungeon-Chapter 135 - 110: Gwendolyn’s Highlight Moment
The giant spider exploded into pieces.
Fang Zhen dodged the flying fragments and shook his head slightly.
The massive spider was already dead mid-air. Mark's follow-up shot had been a bit unnecessary.
However, from Mark's perspective, it was impossible to tell if the enemy was dead or alive, so making sure was redundant but reasonable.
Gwendolyn rolled back to his feet.
The old man was agile and had sharp reflexes. The explosion from the giant spider hadn't harmed him in the slightest.
Gwendolyn shone the powerful flashlight from his belt toward the depths of the cave. The sight revealed was a dense swarm of over twenty giant spiders scuttling rapidly in their direction.
The largest of these spiders were bigger than a person, while the smallest were the size of an eight or nine-year-old child. Some had short, furry legs, while others had long legs that made them look 'tall'.
Their appearances varied, but they all looked equally terrifying. Their writhing mouthparts dripped with viscous fluid, sending a chill down one's spine and making their skin crawl.
The giant spiders moved quickly, crawling toward Fang Zhen's position. Some could even leap, covering two or three meters in a single bound.
Fang Zhen felt his scalp tingle.
If he had encountered this many Ghost-faced Spiders alone, his only option would have been to toss a Molotov Cocktail and make a strategic retreat.
Gwendolyn saw the giant spiders as well.
The Curse Sealer suddenly let out a sharp cry, as if to banish his fear. He set down the Molotov Cocktail in his left hand, took up his shortbow with his right, and fiercely drew and loosed an arrow!
Gwendolyn used a typical Mongolian archery style, grabbing and shooting arrows without much aiming. His firing rate was incredibly fast; it felt like he could let loose an arrow in just over a second.
His targets were also clear: one arrow per Ghost-faced Spider. If it hit, it hit. If it missed, he didn't fire a follow-up. The emphasis was purely on rapid, scattered shots, delivering the maximum number of attacks to the maximum number of targets in the shortest possible time.
All by himself, Gwendolyn managed to create the effect of a sky-darkening volley of arrows.
The Ghost-faced Spiders were agile, but their massive bodies made them excellent moving targets.
With this kind of scattered fire, the arrows didn't need to hit vital spots—a simple hit was enough.
In the span of just a few breaths, before the swarm of Ghost-faced Spiders could reach him, more than ten of the giant creatures had been struck by arrows.
Normally, such scattered shots wouldn't be able to inflict fatal damage on the Ghost-faced Spiders.
But the arrows had been coated with dried Secret Medicine Blood Burst.
The giant spiders that were hit wouldn't have died otherwise, but after a second or two, their bodies began to swell and bloat. Then, with a loud BANG, they burst apart, splattering green fluid everywhere.
Gwendolyn was having the moment of his life. With his own power, he had gunned down more than half the Ghost-faced Spider swarm with scattered shots, holding back the vast majority of them.
All of this took less than ten seconds.
Gwendolyn wanted to continue his rapid fire, but as he reached for his quiver, a look of visible shock crossed his face.
His quiver was empty.
Gwendolyn decisively ducked, picked up the Molotov Cocktail Bottle on the ground, and turned to run back.
With a great sense of timing, Fang Zhen took over Gwendolyn's attack rhythm.
Seeing how ferocious Gwendolyn was, Fang Zhen felt a sense of relief. He'd already reloaded his Hunting Crossbow, and he now took out a Windproof Lighter to ignite the cloth wick of a Molotov Cocktail.
The Ghost-faced Spiders at the front had been blown to smithereens by the arrows laced with Blood Burst Powder. Severed limbs flew through the air and green blood splattered as a large number of them fell. Nearly ten spiders remained, and in their attempt to dodge the arrows, they had gathered in a relatively concentrated area.
Fang Zhen rushed to where Gwendolyn had just been standing. He flung the lit Molotov Cocktail in his hand, and it landed precisely in the center of the clustered Ghost-faced Spiders.
Skill: Precise Throwing.
Under the effect of Precise Throwing, anything Fang Zhen threw felt like an extension of his body. His control was extremely accurate, allowing him to hit whatever he aimed at. As long as the throw was within his strength limit, he could control the landing spot with a precision of two centimeters.
The Molotov Cocktail bottle smashed right in the middle of the huddled Ghost-faced Spiders.
BOOM!
A ball of fire erupted, spraying a rain of flames in all directions.
The gasoline, mixed with sugar, ignited into a sea of fire, setting seven or eight of the surrounding Ghost-faced Spiders ablaze. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The burning Ghost-faced Spiders let out shrill cries. Not yet dead, they scurried about frantically, as if that could extinguish the flames on their bodies.
But it was all in vain. Not only did the flames not go out, but they also spread to several other Ghost-faced Spiders that hadn't yet been touched by the fire.
The flames were sticky and intense. In just four or five seconds, some of the Ghost-faced Spiders were burned until they collapsed to the ground, reduced to biofuel.
From the depths of the cave, another four or five Ghost-faced Spiders ran out. They moved near the sea of fire, joining the ones that hadn't been set alight. They let out sharp, piercing shrieks, though it was unclear how they produced the sound.
Behind them, Gwendolyn and Fang Zhen had a remarkable rapport. Just as the most intense wave of fire from the Molotov Cocktail began to subside, Gwendolyn somehow lit the wick of the Molotov in his own hand.
Gwendolyn charged forward with the lit Molotov Cocktail and hurled it at the six or seven Ghost-faced Spiders further back that weren't yet on fire.
His throw was accurate, smashing right between those few Ghost-faced Spiders.
BOOM!
Another rain of fire erupted as the bottle exploded, setting all the nearby Ghost-faced Spiders ablaze.
Now, nearly every Ghost-faced Spider in Fang Zhen's line of sight was on fire. The air filled with a scorched smell, and even a faint aroma of roasting meat.
The flames burned continuously, with extreme intensity.
Ghost-faced Spiders were naturally afraid of fire. Most of them had furry bodies, some even coated in oil. Furthermore, their un-spun silk also seemed to be a highly efficient fuel, and it only took a few seconds in the flames for a giant spider to be incapacitated.
About ten seconds after Gwendolyn threw his Molotov Cocktail, there were no more active Ghost-faced Spiders.
Just as Fang Zhen began to relax slightly, he suddenly heard a sharp shriek. It was like a high-frequency whistle blown with great force—not extremely loud, but exceptionally sharp and piercing.
He looked in the direction of the sound.
A colossal Ghost-faced Spider, as large as three men and looking like a large SUV or a small house, charged out of the cave.
This super-sized Ghost-faced Spider was tall, standing over two meters high, with an immense body. Its sharp mouthparts had a blue sheen, hinting at a potent venom. Three regular Ghost-faced Spiders charged alongside it.
On the back of the giant Ghost-faced Spider was the twisted face of a blonde woman. She looked to be in her twenties, but her contorted expression, magnified dozens of times, was filled with hatred and terror.
'The Spider Queen?' Fang Zhen thought.
Gwendolyn, who had been so ferocious just moments ago, looked at the charging, giant Ghost-faced Spider Queen.
But with just one glance, Gwendolyn suddenly froze in place, his eyes filled with shock, completely motionless.
"Gwendolyn!" Fang Zhen shouted, his hands never stopping.
He raised his Hunting Crossbow and aimed at the giant Spider Queen.
Perhaps he had awakened some skill while blind-firing and flick-shotting earlier, because he didn't even really aim, yet felt certain he would hit his mark.
Of course, that was also because the Spider Queen's body was simply enormous.
He pulled the trigger, and a Hunting Arrow shot out.
The Hunting Arrow instantly covered a distance of dozens of meters and pierced the Spider Queen's abdomen.
The entire Hunting Arrow disappeared inside, not emerging from the other side.
But the Spider Queen, which should have bloated and exploded under the effects of the Blood Burst Secret Medicine, didn't detonate immediately. It just froze, unmoving.
'The Blood Burst Secret Medicine failed?'
The thought flashed through his mind.
Fang Zhen dismissed the idea.
'It might not have failed.'
To talk about a poison's effect without considering the dosage is just foolish.
The dose of Blood Burst Secret Medicine on a single Hunting Arrow was simply too small. The Spider Queen's body was three to four times larger than a normal Ghost-faced Spider's; it was normal for such a small dose to have no effect.
'Again!'
Fang Zhen reloaded the Hunting Crossbow, drawing the string and nocking an arrow.
The giant Spider Queen was still stiff, as if drunk. It just kept turning in circles within a small area, for reasons unknown.
By now, the Hunting Crossbow was reloaded with another Hunting Arrow.
Fang Zhen raised the crossbow and fired.
He had awakened a strange intuition. Without aiming, he knew he would hit, more or less.
This arrow also buried itself in the Spider Queen's body.
The Spider Queen's front limbs suddenly went limp, and it knelt on the ground. Its body seemed about to expand, but before it could, the swelling was suppressed by some force. It seemed to be at a critical threshold.
Fang Zhen reloaded the Hunting Crossbow again.
Soon, the third Hunting Arrow was nocked.
He continued to fire by instinct.
The Spider Queen's body was so massive, it was difficult to miss even if he tried.
The Crossbow Arrow shot into the Spider Queen's abdomen.
This time, the Blood Burst Secret Medicine powder on the Hunting Arrow became the last straw that broke the camel's back.
The Spider Queen could no longer suppress the effects of the Blood Burst Secret Medicine.
Its body expanded violently, and within seconds it was nearly the size of a real small house. Then, it let out a deafening explosion.
BOOM!
Like a high-explosive bomb, the entire Spider Queen detonated. The explosion even generated a shockwave, and from so far away, Fang Zhen could still feel the blast of air.
Of the few Ghost-faced Spiders near the Queen, two were blown to pieces by the violent explosion, killed instantly.
Two others were luckier; the shockwave merely threw them a great distance without killing them.
In the entire underground space, only two Ghost-faced Spiders remained.
The massive explosion also snapped Gwendolyn out of his daze.
Gwendolyn suddenly roared as if in a rage, drew his Single-Edged Sword, and charged toward the Ghost-faced Spiders.
Fang Zhen watched this unfold.
The two Ghost-faced Spiders, for some unknown reason, suddenly accelerated. They ran so fast they seemed to leave afterimages, and they could leap five or six meters in a single bound.
Seeing the last two Ghost-faced Spiders charge over, Fang Zhen knew he didn't have time to load a new arrow into his Hunting Crossbow.
"Mark, the spear!" Fang Zhen dropped the Hunting Crossbow he was holding and shouted toward the back.
Mark took a step forward, pointed the tip of the spear up, and skillfully tossed it over.
