My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 789: 4 Million Endorsement Fee
「On the return trip.」
The young girl was not only exceptionally quiet, but she also seemed to have changed entirely in her behavior and demeanor. She was doing this for one reason: to make a good impression on Lin Feng, the man who might, probably, perhaps, in her wildest dreams be her ’future father-in-law.’
Seeing her like this made Lin Feng curious, and he took the initiative to ask about her family.
She answered every question. "My family runs a wholesale business for agricultural products. We’ve leased several mountains in the countryside to grow fruit; business is quite good."
"I’m an only child. My parents don’t live in this city; they’re in a neighboring one. I’m only here for work."
Lin Feng casually asked, "What do you do for work?"
The girl smiled bashfully. "I’m working as a warehouse manager for a company owned by one of my dad’s friends. The job is rather leisurely."
As they chatted, the atmosphere relaxed, and the girl began to show her true colors again.
"Can I ask, is it true what they say online, that Er Bao’s husband is from a rich second-generation family?"
"When will San Bao and Shao Yang finally get their happy ending?"
"People are saying they’ve already had a low-key wedding. Is that true?"
"Why hasn’t Xiao Bao started acting?"
"So many people are looking forward to it. I heard you’re her agent, is that true?"
Lin Feng gave noncommittal answers to these questions. "We’ve arrived, young lady."
The girl got out of the car reluctantly. "Goodbye, Uncle."
Lin Feng smiled. "Goodbye."
He had just completed his first fare when the app began to notify him of new orders. This time, he tried to snatch an order, but he was a step too slow, and they were all taken by others.
He didn’t mind and just wandered around aimlessly, taking in the old streetscapes. He had to admit the city had changed quite a bit over the years.
Just then, his phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number with a 400 prefix. Lin Feng answered and was surprised to find it was customer service from the app’s platform, proposing a collaboration. They wanted him to endorse their app and mentioned that a senior executive would contact him after the call.
Sure enough, the moment he hung up, a private number from another region called. The caller ID showed an out-of-town location. The person introduced himself, warmly and sincerely inviting Lin Feng to endorse their app for a compensation of four million yuan.
Lin Feng didn’t outright refuse. Instead, he said he would think it over and give them an answer the next day. The other party said they would call again at nine o’clock the next evening.
After hanging up, Lin Feng managed to grab a fare for a nearby destination: the city hospital.
Upon arriving at the residential complex, he saw a woman standing by the roadside, clutching her stomach. Her face was pale and filled with anxiety. It wasn’t particularly sunny, yet her forehead was covered in sweat.
Lin Feng asked, "Is this for the phone number ending in 1257?"
The woman nodded. "Yes, it’s me... I’m not feeling well. I need to go to the hospital..."
Lin Feng got out of the car to help her in and fastened her seatbelt before starting the car. Through the rearview mirror, he saw that the woman was crying, looking like she was on the verge of a breakdown. A pregnant woman all alone, with a large belly, crying and about to give birth without anyone by her side—she was clearly in some kind of trouble. Lin Feng didn’t know what it was, so he didn’t dare to ask.
"Ma’am, adjust your breathing and try to calm down. We’re only two intersections away from the hospital."
Tears streamed down the pregnant woman’s face as she held her belly. "It hurts so much, it really hurts... and my heart hurts, too..."
They came to a red light. Seeing the woman’s condition, Lin Feng felt he had no choice but to run it. The woman was still crying, and a car behind them started to give chase, warning him to stop. By the time the pursuer reached the passenger’s side window, Lin Feng loudly explained, "I have a pregnant woman in my car who is about to give birth, and she’s not doing well!"
The handsome officer in sunglasses murmured into his shoulder radio, then told Lin Feng, "Follow me. It’s rush hour."
Lin Feng immediately fell in behind him. Only then did he realize that if he had stuck to the original route, he would have been stuck in traffic on the bridge. The officer turned on his siren, clearing a path and escorting Lin Feng’s car all the way.
Thanks to his help, they arrived at the hospital quickly. Lin Feng carried the pregnant woman out of the car and, with the officer’s help, placed her onto an awaiting stretcher.
"A family member needs to register..." a nurse said.
Lin Feng wanted to explain, but seeing the woman screaming in pain, he went ahead and started filling out the forms. After he finished, a nurse rushed over. "She’s in labor! Go complete the admission procedures. Here’s the doctor’s order."
Lin Feng was speechless.
He turned to explain to the very helpful officer, "She’s my passenger. I’m just a taxi driver..."
Seeing the situation, the officer declared, "Special circumstances call for special measures. You won’t be held responsible." He then added, "You might as well see your good deed through to the end and help her out. I’ve got work to do, but I’ll come find you later."
Indeed, his radio was buzzing incessantly. Lin Feng nodded and went to handle the hospital admission procedures. Because of his celebrity status, he was able to use a few exclusive channels.
"Sir, your wife’s about to give birth. Have you prepared things for the baby?" a nurse asked.
"She’s not my wife. She’s my passenger. I’m just a taxi driver."
"...Ah?"
"Does she have a phone? You should contact her family." No matter what was going on, they needed a family member in this situation.
A moment later, the nurse hurried out and handed the phone to Lin Feng. "Someone’s on their way. Take her phone and wait for them outside. I have to get back to work."
Lin Feng took the phone and waited at the entrance. Ten minutes later, a handsome young man in a black coat hurried over.
"Are you Zhang Xiaoting’s husband?"
"Oh, yes, I am. And you are...?"
"I’m the taxi driver. This is your wife’s phone. She’s in the obstetrics department on the third floor."
"How much do I owe you? I’ll pay you now."
"Don’t worry about it. You should go see her."
"Thank you, driver, thank you!" the man said, taking the phone and running straight for the third floor. It seemed he and his wife had a good relationship.
Lin Feng didn’t give it another thought and drove home to make dinner.
By the time the meal was ready, Zhang Yuxi, Xiao Bao, and Si Bao had all returned. Si Bao and Xiao Bao were internet surfing experts and knew everything that was happening online. Besides, Xiao Bao was already following Er Bao’s social media.
At the dinner table, Xiao Bao couldn’t stop laughing as she shared the rest of the story about the girl from the taxi. The gist was that she found Lin Feng incredibly easy-going and young-looking; though he was in his fifties, he looked like he was thirty. Moreover, the girl had started fantasizing that maybe something could really happen between her and Si Bao.
Si Bao listened with a calm expression, showing not the slightest bit of interest. He already had a girlfriend, even if they weren’t married yet.
"Dad, you only had one fare all day? That’s not good enough."
"Who said I only had one? I had another one, and it happened to be a pregnant woman in labor." He had to admit, his day of driving had certainly been an exciting one.
Xiao Bao asked, "How much did you make? Enough to treat us to dinner tomorrow?"
Lin Feng replied, "About four hundred, hmm, but I’m out ten thousand..." Because the pregnant woman went into labor, he paid the ten thousand for the hospitalization and delivery medication fees all at once.
Lin Feng then added, "However, the app’s platform invited me to be their spokesperson. I’m still considering it."
Xiao Bao’s curiosity was piqued. "How much is the endorsement fee?"
"Four million."
Xiao Bao’s eyes widened. "Not bad, Dad! And that price is probably negotiable! So, are you going to do it?"
"I haven’t decided yet," Lin Feng said while eating. "I’ll think about it and give them an answer tomorrow night." Lin Feng had never endorsed anything by himself before; any previous marketing he did was a joint effort with Xiao Bao. "If I do decide to endorse it, I’ll have a lawyer check the company out first. I’ll only do it if they’re reliable."
Si Bao, who had been mostly silent, spoke up. "That app has hundreds of millions of users, and its reputation has always been good."
Lin Feng smiled. "Mm, I’ll give it proper consideration." After a pause, he asked his wife, "You’re off tomorrow. Should we go to Jingcheng?"
"If we go, I’ll call Cai Xia’s family."
Zhang Yuxi nodded. "Yes, let’s go. As the groom’s family, if we make the effort to visit, it shows how seriously we’re taking the marriage."
Lin Feng immediately called Cai Xia’s parents to inform them that they would set off for Jingcheng the next day to discuss the children’s marriage. They were naturally delighted and even said they would prepare lunch for them.
