My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 760 Farewell
Sibao drove to the new apartment.
The landlady, who lived across the hall, was already waiting. She was a plump, middle-aged woman, and when she saw that Xuan Jiayi was also plump, she immediately took a liking to her.
"I’ve already cleaned the room. Come, see if you’re satisfied."
The apartment had one bedroom, a living room, and an open kitchen, and it was nicely decorated. Both Sibao and Xuan Jiayi were very satisfied.
"The minimum lease here is three months."
Sibao immediately paid three months’ rent and a one-month security deposit.
"Let me, I can’t take your money," Xuan Jiayi protested.
Sibao ignored her. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
It was mostly clothes and other personal items. Xuan Jiayi had packed in a hurry, afraid Sibao might see them. She quickly refused, "No, no, it’s fine. I can handle it myself."
Sibao just said, "Oh. How about this? Since it’s still early, there’s a supermarket nearby. Let’s go buy some daily necessities." He added, "If you go by yourself, how are you going to carry everything back?"
A warmth spread through Xuan Jiayi’s heart. "Okay."
The kitchen was already equipped with utensils, so they just bought some staples like rice, flour, oil, and seasonings. Sibao pushed the shopping cart while the two of them discussed their purchases, getting along harmoniously.
At one point, Sibao pushed the cart away to get something else, leaving Xuan Jiayi trying to reach an item on a high shelf. She stood on her tiptoes for a long time but still couldn’t grab it. No employees were around, so she could only keep trying.
Suddenly, a hand effortlessly took the item down and placed it in her cart.
They were standing very close. Xuan Jiayi jumped back in shock, her face flushing bright red.
Sibao, completely unaware, asked, "What else do we need to buy?"
"N-nothing else..."
On their way back, they ran into an older woman in the elevator who kept praising how handsome Sibao was. She also remarked on how lucky Xuan Jiayi was. Being a social butterfly, Sibao chatted happily with the woman until she got off the elevator.
Back at the apartment, Sibao helped put away the groceries, organizing everything neatly. Meanwhile, Xuan Jiayi organized her clothes and other belongings. It was summer, and since she had just moved to Yangcheng, she didn’t have many possessions.
By the time they finished, it was past six o’clock, so Sibao invited her to dinner.
"It’s my treat today. What would you like to eat?"
"How about barbecue?"
"Then let’s go. I know a barbecue restaurant nearby."
"I have a big appetite, you know."
"No problem. I can afford it no matter how much you eat."
After dinner, Sibao saw her home before heading back to his own place. As they parted, he reminded her not to forget to see him off at the airport tomorrow.
After getting home, Xuan Jiayi made a phone call to the boss of her former roommate’s company. What a coincidence, it turned out she knew the woman.
About ten minutes later, the former roommate was informed that she had been fired. The company was willing to pay the breach of contract penalty.
The roommate was stunned, utterly baffled. Why? She had just passed her probation; how could this be happening? She asked around, but no one besides the boss had a clue, which only left her even more confused.
「...」
「Meanwhile.」
Sibao got home to find his parents busying themselves. Upon closer inspection, he saw they were preparing delicacies for him and Erbao to take to Jingcheng.
"Mom, Dad, make sure to pack a lot for me, alright?"
That one sentence nearly earned him a beating from Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi. "Stop spouting nonsense and come help."
Sibao was the strongest of the children. He chuckled and quickly went to help.
"Mom, you go take a break. Dad and I have got this."
Zhang Yuxi straightened up and sat on a nearby chair, looking genuinely tired. Watching her husband and son busy themselves with the packing, she took a sip of water and asked, "What do you think of Xuan Jiayi?"
Sibao grabbed another container to pack and replied casually without looking up, "I think she’s pretty good."
Zhang Yuxi asked, "What’s good about her?"
"She’s great in every way. If I had to say what’s best, it would probably be her personality. She’s genuine and not pretentious." Then he turned the question back on them, "Mom, Dad, what do you think of Xuan Jiayi?"
If he wanted to pursue things further, his parents’ opinion was still something to consider.
Lin Feng, preoccupied with his task, replied, "Your mother and I have no objections. As long as you like her, we’ll support you. We aren’t the ones who will be with you until the end of your life. Your wife is. One day, we’ll be gone."
Zhang Yuxi sighed. "Sibao, urging you to find a girlfriend is one thing, but whether you actually like her is another. Don’t ever do it just to appease us, and don’t lie to yourself. Don’t take relationships and marriage too lightly, understand?"
Sibao understood what they meant and grinned.
"Mom, Dad, don’t worry. If I don’t find the right girl, I definitely won’t settle."
"As for me, I plan to spend some time with Xuan Jiayi and see how things go."
As the three of them chatted, they finished their work.
"If you have anything else to pack, go do it now. Don’t be dilly-dallying tomorrow when it’s time to get on the plane!"
Sibao walked away, grinning cheekily like a child.
The next day, Lin Feng was up bright and early to prepare breakfast.
After the family ate, the elders’ reluctance to see them go was palpable. Their words of advice were repeated over and over. Xiaobao was also downhearted, her lips pouting with sadness. Erbao teased her for a good while, promising she would return soon, definitely before the New Year.
Xiaobao’s expression brightened slightly. "Actually, I want to cry, but I’m so big now. It would look so ugly if I cried."
A twinge of heartache flashed through Erbao’s chest. "It’s okay, go ahead and cry. We’re all family. No one will laugh at you."
Xiaobao glanced at Qin Jiang.
Erbao huffed reassuringly, "Don’t worry, your brother-in-law won’t laugh at you either."
Xiaobao hugged Erbao, her eyes reddening as she burst into tears. "Second Sister, you have to come back soon. Don’t break your promise. Wait for me. Once I get into Jingcheng University, I’ll be able to be with you all every day," she sobbed.
Erbao smiled gently. "Okay, then you must work hard. Once you get into a university in Jingcheng, our whole family will move there, alright?"
A light shone in Xiaobao’s eyes. "Okay!"
When they arrived at the airport, Sibao looked around as if searching for something.
Erbao was puzzled. "Looking for the restroom? It’s over there!"
Sibao spotted a girl standing not far away, looking somewhat shy. "Come here!"
Everyone followed his gaze and saw Xuan Jiayi scampering over, holding something in her hands.
Erbao said teasingly, "Well, hello there!"
Xuan Jiayi was a little embarrassed. "This... this is a gift for you."
Sibao took it and asked curiously, "What’s inside?"
Xuan Jiayi pursed her lips. "I made some snacks; you can eat them on the plane."
Sibao beamed a sunny smile. "Thanks!"
It was only then that Xuan Jiayi noticed Qin Jiang. She hadn’t seen him the day before when she came for her consultation.
Erbao introduced him, "This is my fiancé."
Unsure how to address him, Xuan Jiayi just said, "Hello!"
Good heavens, not only is everyone in this family gorgeous, but their significant others are just as stunning. For some reason, she felt a wave of pressure. Her inferiority complex flared up even worse than before!
They were all VIPs, so they proceeded directly to their gate.
Watching them go, Lin Feng turned to Xuan Jiayi. "Where do you live? We’ll give you a ride."
Xuan Jiayi waved her hands frantically. "Oh no, please don’t trouble yourselves. I can just get a taxi. It’s very close."
Zhang Yuxi smiled. "Let us take you. Sibao asked us to take good care of you before he left."
Xuan Jiayi’s face turned red. "Then... then I’ll have to trouble you."
Xiaobao didn’t particularly like or dislike Xuan Jiayi. Having said goodbye to her brothers and sisters one by one over the past few days, she was in a foul mood and remained silent in the car. Xuan Jiayi sat next to her, and after a moment’s thought, pulled a crystal ball from her bag.
"Xiaobao, this is for you."
Xiaobao turned her head, and her eyes lit up at the sight of it. This was no ordinary snow globe; inside, along with the snowflakes, were chibi versions of the four siblings.
A crafty male fan had once posted a how-to video for it online. Erbao saw it and immediately bought the rights, planning to mass-produce them. The main goal wasn’t to sell them, but to have them as keepsakes. Who would have guessed they would sell out as soon as they hit the market! The quadruplets themselves didn’t even get one, as the company had halted production for some reason. Erbao was busy with her business and figured she’d produce more once the factory resumed operations. But by the time she finally remembered it one day, she discovered the factory had gone out of business.
Oh well, she’d thought at the time. At least she made back the money for the rights!
Time flew by, and Erbao had long forgotten the whole affair. Xiaobao had never even seen one of the toys.
As it happened, this particular snow globe had belonged to her new landlady’s daughter. The mother, not knowing if her daughter still wanted it, had thrown it out with the trash while cleaning. That’s when Xuan Jiayi saw it and picked it up.
Xiaobao held the snow globe, a long-awaited smile finally breaking across her face. "Thank you!"
Xuan Jiayi smiled. "You’re welcome."
Her heart ached for the little girl. Since Sibao cherished Xiaobao, her affection for him extended to his little sister. She knew she had to be very good to Xiaobao, too.
Looking at the clearly aged snow globe, Xiaobao asked, "Sister, you gave this to me... do you have another one for yourself?"
"Of course," Xuan Jiayi lied. "I have another one back home."
Xiaobao gave a sweet smile. "Then I’ll gladly accept it!"
Xuan Jiayi’s breath hitched. My goodness, Xiaobao is just too adorable!
After dropping Xuan Jiayi off outside her apartment, Lin Feng reminded her to take her medicine properly and told her he would prepare the second phase of her treatment later. For Xuan Jiayi, this was more important than life itself, and she dared not slack off in the slightest.
Lin Feng suggested, "After you take your medicine, you should exercise more. It’s best if you work up a good sweat."
Xuan Jiayi took his advice to heart. "I will, Uncle!"
She silently vowed to lose weight by the time Sibao returned for the New Year. Not a specific amount, but enough to be noticeable!
