Chapter 84: Chapter 84

Vivienne’s words were deliberately vague.

Alexander must have promised her he wouldn’t divorce her!

That’s why Vivienne was so smug and flaunting herself at her birthday party today!

Isabella’s face twisted with fury. "Vivienne, how low can you sink? Alexander doesn’t even like you. You’d better divorce him while you still can!"

"I won’t divorce him. Are you upset? What are you going to do about it?"

"You—"

"If you came here to say that, I’ll leave now."

"How about a bet? Let’s see who Alexander will choose in the end."

"You’re just trying to get attention with this. I’m not interested in playing your game." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

I turned and walked away.

Suddenly, Isabella lunged at me from behind.

I stayed calm and dodged her.

Isabella missed and stumbled down the stairs.

"Ah—!"

A heart-wrenching scream filled the air.

Isabella tumbled down the stairs.

"Isabella!" Alexander rushed in from the side entrance. Upon seeing the scene, he hurriedly ran over and gathered Isabella into his arms. "Are you alright?"

Isabella leaned against Alexander, her face pale, eyes full of tears, her breath shallow. "Alexander... it hurts so much."

"Don’t talk. I’ll take you to the hospital." Alexander scooped her up and glanced at me briefly before turning to leave.

Once Alexander was out of sight, Isabella shot me a smug smile and silently mouthed, "I won."

Looking at Alexander’s retreating figure, I felt a pang of discomfort. I closed my eyes and forced myself to push it aside.

Isabella leaned into Alexander’s embrace.

From her angle, his deep-set eyes, high nose, and chiseled jawline were all so captivating. She couldn’t let go.

Alexander had immediately chosen to take her to the hospital, so he must still have some lingering feelings for her.

"What did you and Vivienne talk about just now?" Alexander suddenly asked.

Isabella spoke softly, "I just wanted to apologize to her, but I didn’t expect Vivienne to suddenly..."

She didn’t finish, but the implication was clear.

"I know Vivienne hates me. I don’t blame her for doing that..." Isabella continued.

Alexander remained silent, his face unreadable.

He freed one hand to open the car door, then gently helped Isabella inside, holding the door open. "I’ll call James to take you to the hospital."

Isabella stiffened and grabbed his arm. "Alexander, aren’t you coming with me? I want you to take me..."

"Wait in the car. James will be here soon." Alexander shrugged off her hand and turned to leave.

Isabella clung to his waist from behind, her voice trembling as she pleaded, "Alexander, are you really that eager to cut ties with me? This is the last time, the very last time. You won’t stay with me? I’ve gotten so used to you, and now you’re leaving... how can you be so cruel?"

"So you’ll just have to get used to it. I’ll call Eliza to keep you company."

"I love you. I can’t live without you! Alexander, you said you loved me too, didn’t you? If you’re worried about Pop-Pop’s health, I don’t need the title. I just want to stay by your side!" Isabella cried out.

Alexander stayed silent, his expression hardening. He tore her hands off and walked away.

Did he really love Isabella?

Even he wasn’t sure anymore.

Isabella stared at his retreating figure, her face turning dark with fury.

She gripped the back of the seat, her nails digging into the leather.

When I emerged from the safety exit, Julian approached and asked, "What happened? CEO Hawthorne just carried Miss Isabella away?"

I explained, "Miss Isabella accidentally fell, and CEO Hawthorne took her to the hospital. The party is over now, let’s go."

"Alright."

We headed for the garage.

I was just about to get into the car when a voice called out behind me.

"Vivienne."

I didn’t turn around.

It was Alexander’s voice.

Julian stopped in his tracks, turned to face Alexander, and greeted him with a smile. "CEO Hawthorne, didn’t you just take Miss Isabella to the hospital?"

"James is taking her." Alexander looked at me. "Vivienne, I need to talk to you."

"I don’t have anything to say to you." I didn’t even glance at him, my voice cold.

Julian looked at me in surprise, tugging at my sleeve to signal that I shouldn’t be so harsh.

Alexander turned to Julian and said, "Mr. Julian, you head back. I’ll drive Vivienne."

As my nominal second brother and an investor in Julian’s production, Alexander had the right to say this, so Julian had no reason to refuse.

But the tension between Alexander and me was clear from my attitude.

Julian looked at me, hesitantly asking, "Vivienne, do you need me to give you a ride?"

I shook my head. "You can go ahead."

If I didn’t clarify things with Alexander, he’d keep pushing for answers, and I didn’t want to drag Julian into our mess.

Seeing my response, Julian nodded. "Alright, I’ll head back then."

He leaned in, his voice soft by my ear. "If you have any issues with CEO Hawthorne, try to resolve them. If anything comes up, call me."

If only it were that simple to solve...

I appreciated his kind offer and gave a gentle nod. "Alright, thank you."

But to Alexander, this scene must have looked extremely intimate.

His gaze darkened even further.

Julian’s car pulled out of the garage.

Apart from the cars, there was only Alexander and me left.

I glanced at him, my expression emotionless, before mockingly saying, "What’s this? Coming to defend Miss Isabella?"

"Vivienne, that’s not it."

"Since it’s not, then I’ll leave."

Seeing my cold attitude, Alexander stepped forward and grabbed my arm. "Let me take you home."

I yanked my arm free. "I don’t need you to."

"Vivienne!"

"What more does CEO Hawthorne have to say?"

I stopped and raised an eyebrow at him.

Alexander could barely stand my sarcastic tone now. It felt like a heavy weight pressing against his chest.

"I know you’re still upset about what happened that day, and that day—"

"Don’t mention that day!" I interrupted coldly, fixing him with a frosty stare. "You’ve already made your choice, so just stop. Since the moment you walked out of that private room, it’s been over between us. But don’t worry, for now, I’ll keep playing along, letting Pop-Pop enjoy whatever time he has left."

"Over? I don’t agree!"

"We signed the Divorce Settlement Agreement."

"Does that mean you won’t keep your promise to Pop-Pop?"

I shook my head slightly, almost laughing at how ridiculous this all seemed. "Pop-Pop’s promise? When you decided to leave, were you really thinking about Pop-Pop’s promise?"

"I remember, of course."

"Ha!" I met his gaze, a cold sneer tugging at my lips. "If you truly remembered, you wouldn’t have insisted on meeting Isabella. Admit it—you’re the one who broke your promise to Pop-Pop first. You chose Isabella over me."

"I’m sorry, I didn’t know she was lying. Her injuries weren’t serious."

"No, that’s not it." I took a step closer, locking eyes with him. "She may have deceived you, but the fact remains you chose to leave me for her. I tried to stop you, but you walked away with those harsh words. That shows, in your heart, you’ve always valued her more than me—no matter what her injuries were."

"And that ring you had in your car? It was clearly meant for Isabella, wasn’t it? Even if Victor Sinclair hadn’t shown up, we would’ve finished our meal, and you still would’ve gone to her."

"Even though she lied to you, didn’t you still go to her birthday party today? Didn’t you still play the piano for her? Didn’t you dance with her?"
