My Cell Prison-Chapter 31 - The World (Part 2)
Chapter 31: Chapter 31 The World (Part 2)
Translator: Exodus Tales Editor: Exodus Tales
The first chapter of the book.
It records events related to the discovery of the [Fate Space], as well as initial exploration.
It also contains descriptions of the world.
Han Dong understood that the world he was reborn into was also Earth… the five continental plates, the distribution of various countries, were all the same.
But two hundred years ago, when humans made the discovery of higher life forms — the outbreak of World War I — humans had mostly developed firearms… However, these firearms were incapable of resisting these higher life forms, which could drive humans mad with just one look.
The following is a quote from the original text:
“When the exploratory team confirmed the existence of a life form ‘higher’ than humans and started attacking humans, a spatial transmission portal to an unknown domain simultaneously appeared in capital cities around the world.
Our level of technology is not yet able to analyze this portal, let alone understand its significance. I can only provide a basic description of its form in words.
– It has a golden glow, an elliptical structure like a starry night sky, and is like a star gate where multiple dimensions intersect inside -”
The description of the Fate Space in the book did not quite align with Han Dong’s experience.
Han Dong was standing in Festival Square at the time, and he did not see any portal at all, before he and thousands of others fell into the ground.
Han Dong continued reading.
“The portal of the Fate Space closes when it comes into contact with an ‘Almighty Life’. It only allows humans to enter, and is a door specifically opened by God for humans.
At first, while global wars were breaking out, many volunteers around the world proactively entered the Fate Space, but almost none returned.
The first ‘Returner’ appeared in Jiuzhou.
A sergeant from Jiuzhou Country returned from the infinite space and obtained a degree of ‘Body Enhancement’. His physical fitness reached twice its original level, the hardness of his fist greatly increased, and he could not find a match among humans.
The information about ‘Fate Points’ and related major professions was mentioned for the first time from his mouth.
Next, ‘Returners’ began to appear all over the world, each returning to reality with different abilities, becoming the main forces resisting higher life forms.
But it was still hard to resist.”
At the mention of ‘Jiuzhou Country’ , Han Dong’s heart was shaken.
As the first returner appeared in Jiuzhou Country, it greatly suggested that, besides the Holy City located in Europe, there might be similar city-states built in Asia.
Han Dong continued to read.
The present situation of the world was elucidated on the next page.
According to incomplete statistics, before human beings discovered high-purity copper metal, they were able to make high-level life forms feel a sense of repulsion, and thus prevent the mad invasion of ‘Higher Life Forms’ , and construct metal city-states capable of housing a sufficient number of humans.
Only 1% of humans had survived.
This was also the lowest point in global population, fewer than a hundred million survivors.
If the properties of copper hadn’t been discovered timely, humans would likely have been wiped out completely.
Currently, there are only three known ‘national-level city-states’ in the world.
Holy City – Noientena (Translated City of Eternity), Coordinate [Yidalos]
Dragon City – Imperial Capital, Coordinate [Jiuzhou]
Capital City – Megalansui (Translated City of Mechanics), Coordinate [Sam] All three cities have one thing in common, they are built atop a giant brass vein, and at the center is the Fate Space.
“Is this the ‘world setup’? By this token, the world I lived in before my death was truly peaceful.
Indeed, humans are not perfect, we are no more than the first life forms with the ability to think and make logically inferences Many biologists have predicted that life forms that are higher and more adaptable to the ecosystem on Earth could potentially emerge. It’s just a matter of time.
This parallel world seems to have encountered this situation ahead of time.
The apocalypse came, and the enhancement channel provided by Fate Space became the only ‘Hope of Fire’ for humans… However, the book still hasn’t clarified the true origin of the Fate Space.
This book is written very subjectively, defining the Fate Space based on the author’s subjective speculations. It lacks actual evidence, hence its low reference value.
The book also mentions five basic career choices, which, for Han Dong who has already become a ‘Returner’, aren’t novel.
Han Dong has a basic understanding of the framework of the world, but he still needs to delve into ‘higher life forms’, and also needs to know the governance, class division, and economic system of the Holy City.
“These details, will probably be available when I enter the [National Royal Academy of Knights].
As for wanting to go outside the city, I’m afraid I need to acquire more than five Fate Points, become a real knight, and follow the Knight Regiment out of the city, to formally come into contact with ‘higher life forms’.”
When Han Dong closed the book, he noticed that Nina was still staring at him with wide eyes.
“Finished reading?”
“Yes… You can return it to your master, thank you.”
“Hehe, why the thanks! I should be thanking you! In a few days, once you are admitted to the Academy, my mom and I can leave this place…”
Even as she spoke, Nina leaned forward and lightly kissed Han Dong’s cheek.
Nina suddenly remembered that the person in front of her wasn’t really her brother, and she felt a moment of awkwardness and blushing.
“Erm… Sorry!”
“It’s okay… I have another question for you, Nina. You work as a mechanic apprentice, right?”
“Yes, even though it’s just the entry level, I get a free lunch every day. But I can’t take it back home… When I reach the age of majority, I can officially become a permanent worker.”
Upon hearing these words, Han Dong couldn’t help but connect it with Arkman’s experiences.
Han Dong solemnly urged her: “If you need any help, remember to let me know.”
“Hehe, Sir is very nice to me, you don’t have to worry… When my skill gets a little better, and I can make some steam parts myself, my survival rate in the Fate Space will increase a lot.”
“Hmm.”
Suddenly, Nina moved her body and intentionally moved closer to Han Dong. “Brother, what did you ‘used to’ do?” “I was a teacher, in biology.”
“Biology? Wow, that sounds fancy.”
“The research in science here couldn’t be developed normally for various reasons, in these 200 years… It’s also pretty normal that you haven’t heard of biology, but you should’ve heard of ‘Chemistry’ right?” “Chemistry? Brother, are you talking about Alchemy?”
“Alchemy?”
Han Dong very clearly, to some extent, alchemy belongs to ancient chemistry.
It is mixed with some impractical ideas, such as the ‘Philosopher’s Stone’.
However, in this world with both magic and special abilities, alchemy may honestly be a very important branch of science.
“The status of an alchemist is a level higher than us mechanics, they are the ‘Think Tank’ of the Holy City.”
Han Dong wrote down ‘Alchemy’ on the paper.
Han Dong does not want to abandon his old profession, he intends to engage in scientific research in this world as he delves further into the Fate Space.
After all, Han Dong does not yet have an intuitive source of income.
“If you’re really interested, you can ask at the academy… If you become an alchemist, I can have roast chicken every day, hehe.”
“Hmm, indeed, it’s worth considering..”
