My Beasts Grind Proficiency For Me-Chapter 123 - 28: Five-Colored Kun Chicken
Yang Jing placed the deposit he’d collected into his Storage Bag.
There would be many occasions to use Spirit Stones, even within the Five Elements True Spirit Sect. Since he had a background as an Independent Cultivator, taking out a large sum of Spirit Stones inconsistent with his status would inevitably arouse suspicion.
Now things were different. Thanks to Iron Head and his other two disciples selling their labor, even if he suddenly produced over a thousand Spirit Stones, people would just admire his business acumen.
Besides, almost all the Class A disciples had just gathered around his Spirit Field, and he had already identified the disciple who was a Demon.
The disciple’s name was Ji Feng. He wasn’t tall, standing under four feet, with a petite stature similar to Iron Head and Yinjiao. He was incredibly handsome, nearly as much as Yinjiao. However, while Yinjiao possessed a noble air, this youth had a more vibrant, almost stunning beauty.
If not for his sharp, bold eyebrows, Yang Jing would have mistaken him for a young girl.
During his Magical Combat with Zhang Peishan, Yang Jing had noticed this fellow disciple, who was still just a child. At the time, he’d assumed the boy was just exceptionally talented to have comprehended the Five Talisman Scripture so early. He never imagined he was actually a Demon in human form.
[Name]: Five-Colored Kun Chicken (Celestial Phoenix Descendant)
[Species Level]: Legendary
[Power]: Fifth Layer Qi Cultivation
[Talent]: Five Elements True Fire (Legendary), Nine Breath Qi Refining (Legendary), Exorcism and Binding Charm (Legendary), Cave Wisdom Five Qi (Legendary)
[Cultivation Technique]: Five Talisman Scripture [Skill]: Firework Refining Skill, Profound Bird Fire Talisman
[Affinity]: 18
Yang Jing hadn’t expected this youth to actually be a descendant of the Celestial Phoenix, possessing a full four Legendary Talents. He was only slightly less impressive than Yinjiao, and even surpassed Chi Yu.
’But his Affinity is only eighteen. This could be tricky.’
Unlike the naive and clueless Iron Head, Yinjiao, and Chi Yu, this Demon was from a branch of the Demon Race subordinate to the Five Elements True Spirit Sect. He had been taught by his elders since childhood and wouldn’t be so easy to fool.
Yang Jing suppressed these thoughts and led his three disciples to work through the list of Spirit Fields, only stopping in the middle of the day for lunch at the Office Kitchen.
After returning to their own quarters, Yang Jing and his disciples started a fire and cooked another meal. The master and his three apprentices consumed nearly thirty-three pounds of Spirit Rice and fifty-five pounds of Demon Beast Flesh in a single sitting.
And this was after Chi Yu had already eaten countless snakes, insects, and vermin in the Spirit Fields, just to take the edge off his hunger.
Yang Jing’s next few days were quite full. While his three disciples tilled the Spirit Fields for the others, he would sit to the side, meditating and practicing his Qi Cultivation.
From his conversations with other Class A disciples, Yang Jing learned that the Outer Sect also had its own spontaneously organized Grass Markets that opened on a regular basis.
After all, Outer Disciples made up seventy percent of the entire Five Elements True Spirit Sect. The Sect’s Merit Points were too precious for them to spend casually, making a place where they could trade various resources for Spirit Stones extremely important.
Since many disciples in the Sect came from wealthy Noble Families with immense purchasing power, some Outer Disciples and even those assigned to Miscellaneous Tasks made a living as personal shoppers. They would bring all sorts of goods from outside the Sect to sell within its walls.
Today was one of the days the Grass Market was open. Yang Jing rose early, finished his chores in the Spirit Field, and then boarded a Flying Boat headed for the market along with other Class A Cultivators.
Ji Feng was among them.
A few of them chatted animatedly on the Flying Boat, discussing all sorts of topics. Only Ji Feng remained quiet and reserved. Yang Jing didn’t try to force a conversation.
The Grass Market was situated in the bend of a large river and covered a vast area. It was already a cacophony of voices, with stalls set up everywhere and swarming with Outer Disciples. There were even disciples from the Precepts Hall patrolling the area in their black uniforms.
The crowd at the Grass Market was even larger than at the Huangyuan Marketplace, and this was just one of the Five Elements True Spirit Sect’s six such markets.
The disciples from Class A didn’t stick together to browse the market. Instead, they chose to split up, disappearing into the crowd in an instant.
Yang Jing’s main reason for visiting the Grass Market was to find Cultivation Techniques. He only earned sixteen Merit Points per month. While that was a lot compared to other Outer Disciples, it was just a drop in the bucket for his goal of mastering the complete Positive and Negative Five Elements Sword Mantra and the Five Elements Thunder Technique sooner rather than later.
The Five Elements True Spirit Sect wasn’t particularly strict about controlling individual volumes of Sword Mantras or Thunder Techniques. With enough Merit Points, a disciple could redeem them completely and pass them down as a family legacy. When disciples from such families joined the Sect and later found themselves short on Spirit Stones, they would very likely sell these inherited techniques.
After wandering around for a while, he found this to be true. Many stalls were selling Secret Technique Manuals.
The selection included not only techniques from the Five Elements True Spirit Sect’s own Library Pavilion, but also some confiscated from enemies. Some disciples were even selling their own families’ secret techniques.
There were all sorts of Cultivation Techniques and Magic, some of which weren’t even in the Library Pavilion’s collection.
Yang Jing even spotted quite a few Cultivation Techniques for Demons, but they were all rather low-level and not of much use.
After a cursory lap around the market, he finally stopped at one of the stalls.
An Outer Disciple who looked to be in his forties was manning the stall, which was covered with all sorts of Jade Scrolls.
Yang Jing had observed him from a distance. The man had clearly been selling Cultivation Techniques and Magic at the Grass Market for years and had built up a solid reputation. A number of older Outer Disciples were browsing the techniques at his stall.
"Do you have the Gui Water Thunder Technique for sale? I need our Sect’s version."
He made sure to emphasize that he wanted the Five Elements True Spirit Sect’s version of the Gui Water Thunder Technique. After all, many different versions of the technique circulated among the various sects. If he accidentally bought one from another sect, he would have no one to blame but himself.
The middle-aged Outer Disciple glanced up at Yang Jing, then took out a Jade Scroll and handed it to him.
"Gui Water Thunder Technique. Eighty Spirit Stones."
A Restriction had been placed on the Jade Scroll, allowing him to read only the first few hundred words. Yang Jing inspected it and, finding that the opening text matched the Ren Water Thunder Technique he had redeemed from the Library Pavilion, promptly paid the Spirit Stones. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
After accepting the Spirit Stones, the vendor removed the Restriction from the Jade Scroll and handed it to Yang Jing.
"Excuse me, Senior Brother. Do you happen to know of any Cultivation Techniques suitable for a snake-type Demon with a Flood Dragon Bloodline?"
’An idea struck Yang Jing. This Outer Disciple has been in the Five Elements True Spirit Sect for many years and runs a business selling techniques at the Grass Market. He must be incredibly well-informed. He might know of a technique suitable for Yinjiao.’
"I’ve taken an interest in a certain Demon Snake," he explained. "I want to cultivate it and refine its bloodline, but I’m having trouble finding a suitable Cultivation Technique for it."
The Outer Disciple’s expression shifted slightly. He gestured for Yang Jing to buy something else from his stall before he would share any information.
Yang Jing was obliging and immediately purchased a copy of the Jia Wood Thunder Technique from the stall.
Only after Yang Jing had paid the Spirit Stones did the Outer Disciple speak, his tone unhurried:
"Flood Dragon-type Demons are considered to have the greatest Talent among all Demons. Naturally, quite a few families raise them. Even here in our Five Elements True Spirit Sect, we have several breeds of Snake Demons containing Flood Dragon Bloodline that are raised. But if you’re asking for the absolute best Cultivation Technique for this kind of Demon, that would have to be the ’Supreme Nine Transformations of the Dragon Scripture’ from the Dragon Taming Dong Family."
