My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 163 - Unfamiliar Presence
163: Unfamiliar Presence
163: Unfamiliar Presence
Raelynn walked slowly through the long hallway.
The faint sound of her steps echoed softly, accompanied by the steady rhythm of Hera’s beside her.
Her hands lightly brushed against the smooth wall as she took careful steps forward.
Though the wounds on her feet from the shattered glass had mostly healed, they still ached at times, reminding her to tread carefully.
Yet, despite the discomfort, she pushed forward.
Hera, walking attentively beside her, occasionally glanced at her with a concerned expression.
Her dark brown eyes held a softness, her lips slightly parted as if she wanted to speak but held herself back.
Raelynn noticed.
She always did.
“Hera, I think I want to start walking alone again.”
Hera blinked, her brows furrowing slightly.
“Are you sure, Lady Raelynn?
Your injuries may seem better, but you should still be careful.”
A small smile tugged at the corners of Raelynn’s lips.
“I know my limits,” she reassured, shifting her weight slightly to prove her point.
“Besides, if I keep relying on you, I’ll never recover fully.”
Hera hesitated, chewing on the inside of her cheek as she studied Raelynn’s expression.
Then, with a soft sigh, she nodded.
“Alright.
But please, if you feel even the slightest discomfort, call for me.”
Raelynn chuckled lightly.
“I promise.”
That was what Raelynn said this morning.
As they passed Elion’s room, Raelynn’s steps faltered.
Her gaze lingered on the closed door, her expression unreadable.
She hadn’t seen him in days.
It wasn’t like him to be absent for so long, not without at least checking on her.
“Hera,” she murmured, keeping her eyes on the door.
“Do you think I can see Elion today?”
Hera stiffened slightly, her fingers clutching the hem of her uniform.
There was a brief silence before she responded, her voice gentle yet firm.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t promise that.”
Raelynn’s heart sank, though she forced herself to nod in understanding.
“I see.”
Without another word, they continued walking until they reached the main sitting room.
Hera stepped forward.
“Why don’t you rest here for a while?
I’ll bring you some refreshments.”
Raelynn hesitated before nodding.
“Alright.”
As Hera disappeared through the archway leading to the kitchen, Raelynn sank into the couch, the soft cushions embracing her weight.
She exhaled slowly, pressing a hand against her belly.
Her child.
Their child.
“Do you miss your father?” she whispered.
She rubbed slow circles over her stomach, a bittersweet smile crossing her lips.
“I think I do.
Even though he’s been gone before, this time feels…
different.”
She leaned her head back against the couch, gazing up at the high ceiling.
“He’s really bad at explaining things, isn’t he?”
Her fingers unconsciously curled around the fabric of her dress.
The silence in the room felt louder than usual, as if the absence of Elion had left an emptiness that even the house itself noticed.
Time passed slowly, and the afternoon light shifted.
Feeling restless, Raelynn decided to step outside for some fresh air.
She carefully rose from the couch, steadying herself before making her way toward the garden.
The air was crisp, carrying the soft scent of earth and blooming flowers.
The trees swayed gently, their leaves rustling in a calming rhythm.
Raelynn closed her eyes for a moment, inhaling deeply.
For a brief second, she felt at peace.
After a few moments, she turned back, stepping inside once more.
As she walked past the living room, something caught her eye.
Someone was there.
Raelynn’s steps slowed.
Her pulse quickened.
She had expected to see Hera, but instead, an unfamiliar man sat on the couch, his posture relaxed, one arm draped casually over the backrest.
Her heartbeat drummed against her ribs.
She didn’t recognize him.
His hair was slightly tousled, his sharp black eyes watching her with an unreadable expression.
He was tall—she could tell even from the way he sat—and his features were strikingly similar to Elion’s, yet there was something different about him.
Before she could say anything, the man suddenly smirked.
“Good, finally someone came to serve me.”
Raelynn blinked, her body tensing.
“Excuse me?”
The man leaned forward slightly, his elbow resting on his knee.
“You’re one of the maids, aren’t you?
Bring me a drink.”
Raelynn’s lips parted, caught between disbelief and irritation.
“I’m not a maid.”
The man raised an eyebrow, his smirk widening.
“Oh?
Then who are you?”
Raelynn straightened her posture, ignoring the flicker of unease curling in her stomach.
“I should be asking you that question.
Who are you, and why are you in here?”
The man let out a dramatic sigh, shaking his head as if truly disappointed.
“Elion is really cruel, isn’t he?
Didn’t even bother to inform a new maid like you about me.”
Raelynn’s brows furrowed.
“I told you—I’m not a maid,” she said, frustration creeping into her tone.
But the man wasn’t listening.
Instead, he pushed himself up from the chair, his movements slow and deliberate.
Raelynn instinctively took a step back, her muscles tensing as he began closing the distance between them.
“That’s a shame,” he mused, his sharp gaze studying her with open curiosity.
“You’d think he’d at least give a proper introduction.
Or maybe…” He tilted his head slightly, a smirk still playing on his lips.
“He’s keeping you all to himself?”
Raelynn swallowed, taking another step back.
“Stay where you are.”
But he didn’t.
His footsteps were unhurried, almost lazy, as if he had all the time in the world.
And with each step he took forward, Raelynn instinctively retreated—until her back met the cold, unyielding surface of the wall.
She stiffened.
The man stopped just in front of her, close enough that she could catch the faintest hint of something—expensive cologne, maybe, or something darker, sharper, that she couldn’t quite place.
His presence was overwhelming, but Raelynn refused to look away.
He smiled.
“Cornered already?”
His eyes gleamed with amusement as he leaned in ever so slightly.
“Reinhart Vaelorian,” he finally said, his voice smooth.
“Elion’s younger brother.”
