My Baby Daddy Isn't Human-Chapter 108: Not So Observation
The soft light of morning spilled through the large windows of Elion’s estate. Raelynn sat at the table, absently stirring her tea. Her thoughts drifted to the secret passage she had discovered and, more importantly, the photographs she had seen.
Each image replayed in her mind like a slideshow: Elion dressed in an array of costumes, from the wild west to a spotless military outfit.
Raelynn frowned into her tea. Does Elion secretly enjoy dressing up in costumes? Or worse... does he like seeing himself in these different looks? She glanced up, her gaze landing squarely on him. At the head of the table, he drank his coffee with a calm ease, oblivious to her gaze.
Her eyes narrowed. No... he doesn’t seem like a narcissist. But... he does look ridiculously good in every outfit. Her thoughts betrayed her, and her cheeks warmed. Oh, come on, Raelynn, this is not the time to admire him!
On second thought, she regretted not snapping a photo of the portraits. Just to prove they were real, obviously, not because she actually wanted to stare at them...
Without realizing, her eyes stayed on his, taking in their shape, color, and every subtle motion. She barely noticed when his brow furrowed, his attention shifting to her.
"Is something on my face?" Elion’s voice, deep and slightly bemused, broke her trance.
Raelynn startled, nearly dropping her spoon. "W-what? No! Nothing’s on your face!" she blurted, her tone far too defensive.
Elion raised an eyebrow, setting his cup down. "Then why are you staring at me like that?"
"I was just—" Raelynn’s mind scrambled for an excuse, and before she could stop herself, she blurted, "I was just admiring... how handsome you are."
The moment the words left her mouth, she froze. Her eyes widened in horror. Oh no, why did I say that?!
Raelynn could feel the heat rushing to her face, her cheeks burning as if she’d just admitted the most scandalous secret in the world. Of all the things she could’ve said—literally millions of possibilities—that was what her brain decided to blurt out? She mentally facepalmed, wishing she could rewind the last ten seconds of her life.
There were so many safer options. She could’ve said there was a mosquito bite mark on his face. Or maybe there was a smudge of something he hadn’t noticed, like a stain or even a shadow from the light.
Heck, she might as well have gone with complete nonsense, like claiming she thought he resembled someone she saw on TV. But no, her traitorous mouth just had to feed his already clear confidence with a blatant handsome comment.
Just great. Absolutely brilliant, Raelynn.
Instead of the smug comeback she’d braced for, Elion surprised her with his response.
His reaction was barely noticeable at first: a tiny flicker in his eyes and a soft blush creeping onto his ears. He quickly looked away, scratching his cheek in an attempt to hide his flustered state.
"Uh... I see," he muttered, his usual composure faltering. He cleared his throat and busied himself with his coffee.
Raelynn wanted to disappear into the floor. She stuffed a piece of toast into her mouth to avoid saying anything else embarrassing.
Across the table, Sloane sat watching the exchange with an amused grin. She kept silent, but the way her eyes gleamed, clearly locking the memory for future use.
Raelynn tried to focus on her breakfast, but her thoughts kept spinning. Her gaze occasionally darted back to Elion, who seemed determined not to look her way. Was he actually embarrassed? No way... right?
As she pondered this, her hand moved to grab her teacup, but her grip was clumsy, her thoughts too distracting. The cup tilted, and hot tea spilled across the table.
"Oh no!" Raelynn exclaimed, jumping back as the tea began to drip toward her lap.
Elion immediately stood, grabbing a napkin. "Careful," he said, his tone calm despite the situation. He leaned over the table to wipe the spill.
Raelynn tried to help, but her hands fumbled as she grabbed for another napkin. Elion’s gaze lifted to hers, and a hint of a smile softened his face. "Why are we taking turns spilling things lately?"
Raelynn blinked, caught off guard by his teasing tone. "It’s not like I did it on purpose," she mumbled, flustered.
As Elion continued to clean up, she couldn’t stop herself from looking at him again. Her thoughts circled back to the photographs, to the mysterious life he seemed to lead. Without realizing it, her gaze became intense once more, scrutinizing every detail of his face.
Elion suddenly paused. He noticed her staring and froze for a moment, his eyes locking onto hers. Confusion crossed his face, mingling with an emotion she couldn’t put her finger on. Then, with a quiet sigh, he pushed the napkin into her hands.
"Here. Wipe it yourself."
Before Raelynn could respond, he turned and walked out of the room, leaving her sitting there with the napkin clutched in her hands.
She stared after him, her mind racing. What just happened? Why did he leave like that?

Sloane finally broke the silence, bursting into laughter. "Oh, Raelynn, you really have a way of making things... interesting."
Raelynn turned to her, confused and slightly embarrassed. "What do you mean?"
Sloane smirked, propping her chin on her hand. "You’re so obvious, you know. Poor Elion didn’t know whether to laugh or run away."
Raelynn’s cheeks burned. "I wasn’t being obvious!"
Sloane raised an eyebrow. "Sure. Keep telling yourself that." She stood, giving Raelynn a pat on the shoulder. "Don’t worry, though. I think he finds it... endearing."
And just like that, Sloane was gone, while Raelynn sat there, lost in her head.
She glanced down at the napkin in her hand, her mind drifting back to Elion’s reaction. There was something about the way he looked at her—something she couldn’t quite place.
Raelynn sighed, slumping back into her chair. Maybe avoiding spills should be my top priority next time. But deep down, she knew her curiosity about Elion wasn’t going away anytime soon.
