Chapter 655: Escape

Before the ministers could react, the generals pulled them and rushed toward the entrance. Seeing this, the younger ministers and lower-ranked officials quickly followed them.

With the loyalist generals opening the way, the ministers from the loyalist faction and neutral faction followed closely behind them, while the neutral faction’s generals covered the rear.

Protected by the generals, the ministers didn’t stay idle. They picked up the fallen swords, then hacked and slashed at the nearest rebel soldiers, trying their best to help as much as they could.

Witnessing this, Wen Kang was furious. Glaring at the rebel general, he asked, "What are you doing?! Go and kill them all!"

The rebel general hesitated for a moment, then braced himself and said, "Your Majesty, this subordinate cannot let you stay here alone."

Blinded by anger, Wen Kang shouted, "Go! Zhen wants their heads today!"

Not daring to go against his order, the rebel general clasped his fists and said, "This subordinate accepts the order!"

With that, he rushed out of the Hall of Righteousness to chase after the generals and ministers. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Left alone in the Hall of Righteousness, Wen Kang’s eyes turned bloodshot as he scanned the Hall of Righteousness that was covered with blood and scattered bodies.

A moment later, he suddenly roared furiously and swiped the things placed on top of the long table.

"Argh! Useless trash!"

Crash!

While Wen Kang was throwing things in anger, the generals and ministers were rushing out of the imperial palace as fast as they could.

Seeing that more and more rebel soldiers were chasing after them, the leader of the neutral faction’s generals glanced at the ministers.

Looking at their exhausted faces and breathless appearance, he said, "We can’t keep going like this! Let’s divide into smaller teams and regroup at the south city gate!"

Glancing at the others, the first loyalist general understood their situation at a glance.

"Alright! One general will escort four ministers! Let’s meet up in two sichen at the south city gate and leave the imperial capital city after we save our families!"

Nodding in agreement, the other generals responded at once, "Understood!"

Making their decision, the generals quickly grabbed four ministers nearest to them, then split up from the main group.

In less than one minute, the group of more than two hundred people had split into smaller teams and run in different directions.

Seeing this, the rebel general cursed under his breath and ordered, "Split up and chase after them!"

"Yes, General!"

Following his order, the rebel soldiers quickly formed smaller teams of six and chased after the generals and ministers.

As the situation in the imperial palace grew more tense by the second, far away outside the imperial capital city, Sha Ying walked into the top floor of the Hong Sha Pavilion’s headquarters.

Standing behind Yu Zhao, he clasped his fists and lowered his head. "Master."

"It was done?" Yu Zhao asked without looking away from the imperial palace in the distance.

"Yes." Sha Ying took out a book, then presented it to Yu Zhao and added, "Master, here is the list of those people’s names."

Turning around, Yu Zhao took the thick book from Sha Ying’s hands. Opening it, he read the names carefully.

A few moments later, Yu Zhao handed the book back to Sha Ying. "Well done. Arrange for them to stay at the village. Since we don’t raise idle people, arrange some work for them."

"Yes, Master."

After putting away the book, Sha Ying paused for a second, then asked, "Master, what about those ministers and generals? Should we help them?"

Yu Zhao turned to look at the imperial palace, then fell into deep thought.

After a brief moment of silence, he said, "Let them be. With General Fang secretly helping them, they will be able to leave the imperial capital city safely."

"This subordinate understands. Master, if there is nothing else, this subordinate will take his leave first."

Just when he was about to take a step, Yu Zhao suddenly said, "Try to inform those ministers and generals about their families’ location."

Hearing this, Sha Ying’s eyes flickered with a smile. "Yes, Master."

Leaving the balcony, he glanced at Yu Zhao’s back and shook his head helplessly. ’Master is still too soft-hearted.’

Left alone on the top floor, Yu Zhao looked at the gloomy morning sky. Stretching out his hand, he grabbed the floating dust in the air.

Looking at his clenched hand, Yu Zhao slowly opened it, only to see nothing in his palm. His eyes dimmed at this sight.

Raising his eyes, he looked at the imperial capital city below and muttered coldly, "The Yu Empire is gone now. It’s time to welcome the new era."

While Yu Zhao was planning his next step, the generals and ministers finally made it out alive from the imperial palace after a hard battle.

As they ran through the deserted streets and alleys, a general and four ministers avoided the rebel soldiers searching for them.

Grabbing the old Hanlin Academy Vice Director’s hand, the general pulled him and said, "Don’t stop! We are almost there!"

Panting heavily, the old Hanlin Academy Vice Director shook his head. "Th–this old man can’t run anymore. General, you should leave first."

Hearing this, the general looked at the other three younger ministers. When his gaze fell on their pale faces covered with sweat and blood, the general could only clench his jaw.

After a few seconds of thought, he made a quick decision.

Running into a dark alley, he squatted down and hurriedly said, "Vice Director, come up."

Looking at the general’s broad back covered in wounds, the Hanlin Academy Vice Director hesitated.

Noticing that the Hanlin Academy Vice Director was just standing there, the general urged, "Quick!"

Knowing that he couldn’t run any longer, the Hanlin Academy Vice Director could only say, "Please pardon my rudeness."

After saying that, he climbed onto the general’s back with the help of the other three ministers.

Standing up with the Hanlin Academy Vice Director on his back, the general turned to the other three ministers and asked, "You guys can still run?"
