Chapter 606: A Mysterious Old Book (1)

As the envoy kept reading, the envoy frowned slightly in doubt. ’Heaven, is this information true? Is there really God in this world?’

Noticing the reaction he failed to hide, the Minister of Rites asked with a hint of hope in his calm voice, "Envoy, is this book valuable enough to be exchanged for the lives of my family?"

Closing the book, the envoy carefully stored it away. Looking at the Minister of Rites, he replied expressionlessly, "The Hong Sha Pavilion will safely send your family home tonight."

Hearing this, the Minister of Rites’ eyes widened in joy. Clasping his hands, he said sincerely, "Thank you, Envoy."

Waving his hand, the envoy replied, "No need for thanks. We made a deal, and the Hong Sha Pavilion will uphold our end."

After saying that, he noticed the Minister of Rites was still standing there.

Raising his brows, he asked, "Minister of Rites, do you have other wishes?"

Reaching into his sleeve again, the Minister of Rites took out several letters and presented them.

"Envoy, these are letters from my colleagues."

The envoy took the letters and read them.

When he was done, he couldn’t help but think, ’Tonight’s business is very good. Looks like I can become the top envoy again this month. Who knew that this small Yu Empire was hiding this many business opportunities?’

Putting the letters away, the envoy looked at the Minister of Rites and said, "I will contact them. Minister of Rites, you should return now. Wait at your residence. Before sunrise, your family will be home."

Bowing slightly, the Minister of Rites said, "Understood. Then I shall await your good news."

Now that he had achieved his goal, his footsteps felt lighter as he left the abandoned temple.

After the Minister of Rites disappeared into the distance with only the small lanterns illuminating his way, the corner of the envoy’s lips curved up.

Looking at the night sky filled with stars, he muttered, "Time to visit those customers."

The moment his words fell, he disappeared.

Meanwhile, seeing the Minister of Rites return, the coachman hurried forward and asked, "Old Master, are you alright?"

Nodding, the Minister of Rites replied, "I’m fine. Let’s return."

Knowing they could not let anyone discover their secret trip, the coachman quickly responded, "Yes, Old Master."

With his help, the Minister of Rites boarded the carriage.

After hanging the stepping stool beneath the carriage, the coachman climbed onto the driver’s seat. Flicking the whip, he urged the horse forward.

"Jia!"

A moment later, the carriage began moving. Under the cover of night, the carriage quietly returned to the imperial capital city.

That night, only a few soldiers knew that the Minister of Rites had left the city on urgent business.

A few hours later, the envoy had finished making his rounds and accepted several new missions from the ministers and generals of the Yu Empire.

Although he had already given the missions to the field teams, he still needed to report to headquarters. Looking at the star-filled night sky, the envoy sped up and rushed back.

By the time he arrived at the headquarters of the Hong Sha Pavilion, the eastern horizon was already tinged with a dark blue color.

Walking toward the men guarding the entrance, the envoy showed them his identity token.

When the guards saw the identity token, they clasped their fists and greeted him. "Thank you for your hard work, Envoy."

Clasping his fists, the envoy returned their greeting. "Thank you, brothers."

After exchanging greetings, the guards took out the black tokens hanging from their waists and put them into two shallow crevices with identical shapes on the stone door.

Clack. Grooo~!

As the entrance split open, the guards stepped to the side.

One of them then said, "Envoy, please come in."

Nodding at them, the envoy walked into the long, brightly lit, wide stone tunnel. After he went inside, the guards took out the black tokens, and the door moved back to its original position.

The envoy walked for more than ten minutes, familiarly avoiding countless traps. After passing through the last trap, he arrived at the main square of the Hong Sha Pavilion’s headquarters.

Seeing that the main square was filled with clients wearing hoods or masks to cover their faces, the envoy calmly went to one of the countless corridors connected to several other areas of the headquarters.

On his way, he greeted some of his acquaintances while ignoring the clients who were trying to use him to bypass the procedures.

Another fifteen minutes passed, and the envoy finally arrived at the Pavilion Master’s living area.

When the guards guarding the floor saw him coming, they blocked his way.

"The Pavilion Master is resting. Brother, please leave," said one of the guards.

Clasping his fists, the envoy explained, "Brother, I have an urgent matter to report to the Pavilion Master. Please help me inform him."

The guards exchanged looks, then one of them said, "Alright. Please wait here for a moment."

"Understood."

While the envoy was waiting outside, the guard pushed open the huge double doors and went inside.

Noticing the incoming guard, Sha Ying frowned slightly. "Didn’t I tell you not to disturb the Pavilion Master?"

Standing before Yu Zhao, the guard clasped his fists. With his head bowed, he said, "Pavilion Master, an envoy is requesting an audience. He said he has an important matter to report."

When Sha Ying heard this, he looked at Yu Zhao, waiting for his order.

"Let him in," Yu Zhao ordered without looking up from the investigation report he was reading.

"Yes, Pavilion Master." Leaving the spacious room, the guard informed the envoy, "Brother, you may go inside now."

Clasping his fists, the envoy responded, "Thank you, Brother."

"Please."

Receiving Yu Zhao’s permission, the envoy went into the room. After he went inside, the guards closed the door.

Walking up to Yu Zhao, who was sitting behind a desk carved out from a whole piece of imperial jade, the envoy knelt on the cold floor. Clasping his fists, he said, "This subordinate greets the Pavilion Master."

Putting down the investigation report, Yu Zhao looked at him and asked, "What do you want to report?"
