Chapter 570: Grew Stronger

While the shaman was having a mental breakdown, the tribe leader was entirely different.

After witnessing the deaths of his tribe members, instead of fear, his morale and courage increased.

Looking at the remaining tribe members, he shouted, "We cannot waste the sacrifices of our brothers and sisters! Absorb their power and strength!"

As his powerful voice echoed across the battlefield, the Dizhu Tribe members stopped advancing.

Just as the Feng Army soldiers thought the enemy had finally stopped courting death, the Dizhu Tribe did something that would haunt them for the rest of their lives.

Halting in place, the tribe members turned around and rushed toward the corpses scattered across the battlefield.

Under the horrified gazes of the Feng Army’s generals and soldiers, they hacked apart the still-warm bodies with their weapons. Grabbing those severed limbs, they bit down, swallowed the flesh and drank the blood, as though feasting on the finest delicacies.

Witnessing this scene, most of the Feng Army soldiers could no longer endure it and rushed to the corners to vomit.

Behind Feng Xiyan, the generals’ faces darkened until they looked as though ink might drip from them.

Shaking her head, the Yin Mirror let out a soft sigh. "What a sin."

Glancing at her composed expression, Feng Xiyan noticed that the Yin Mirror’s eyes reflected something different from what they were seeing.

After pondering briefly, he asked, "Yin Mirror, what did you see?"

"Master, you are as observant as ever." She smiled gently at him, then turned her gaze back to the battlefield. After a brief moment of silence, she explained calmly, "They are absorbing the dead’s spiritual energy and physical strength."

As soon as Feng Xiyan heard this, he thought, ’As expected. No wonder in the past that I saw before, the Dizhu Tribe members grew stronger the more they consumed human flesh.’

Seeing his lack of surprise, the Yin Mirror added, "Master, you already knew the answer. Why ask again?"

"I only wanted to confirm it," Feng Xiyan replied.

While they spoke, Feng Wu noticed a change on the battlefield.

Previously, the gunners’ accuracy had been nearly perfect. Now, out of every ten shots, two missed their mark.

Not only that. Before the Dizhu Tribe consumed the corpses, a single bullet was enough to kill them. Now, even direct hits barely wound them.

After observing for a moment, Feng Wu approached Feng Xiyan and reported, "Master, the enemies are growing stronger. They are moving faster, and their bodies can now withstand bullets."

"Mhm." Feng Xiyan responded softly, sinking into thought.

After a few seconds of silence, he ordered, "Feng Wu, have the gunners cease fire. Let the Qin Nu Archer Team take over and defend the wall."

"Yes, Master."

As Feng Wu went to relay the order, Feng Xiyan turned to the generals.

"Long-range combat is no longer viable. This general will lead five hundred elite soldiers and engage them head-on. General Wu, Military Advisor Tuluo—you two will take over the command here."

Wu Ruizhan and Tuluo Cheng clasped their fists and replied in unison, "This subordinate accepts the order."

Turning to Zhan Qi and Zhong Zi’an, Feng Xiyan continued, "General Zhan, General Zhong—you two will accompany this general into battle."

The two vanguard generals’ eyes lit up instantly at his words. Clasping their fists, they answered together, "This subordinate accepts the order!"

Looking at the remaining generals, Feng Xiyan added, "The rest of you will follow General Wu and Military Advisor Tuluo’s arrangements."

"Yes, Great General," the generals replied.

With the orders given, Feng Xiyan said simply, "Let’s go."

As they descended the stairs, Wu Ruizhan and the others clasped their fists and bowed toward Feng Xiyan, Zhan Qi, and Zhong Zi’an.

Mounting his tall, majestic black warhorse, Feng Xiyan commanded, "Open the gate!"

At his order, the gate captain signaled the soldiers. Receiving the order, the soldiers operated the laver. A second later, the thick iron chain was rolled into the mechanism, and the gate slowly opened.

Creak~!

While the garrison gate slowly opened, the Dizhu Tribe members were still feasting on the corpses.

Despite the gore before him, Feng Xiyan’s expression remained calm.

Boom!

The moment the gate fully opened, Feng Xiyan shouted, "Charge!"

Kicking his warhorse’s belly lightly, he rushed out of the garrison. Behind him, Zhan Qi, Zhong Zi’an, and five hundred elite soldiers clad in black armor followed closely.

Under the illumination of the spotlights, they looked like a black tide crashing toward the enemy.

On top of the wall, soldiers beat the war drums to accompany their charge.

Du~ du~ Dum! Du~ du~ Dum! Du~ du~ Dum!

With every beat, their speed increased.

Hearing the change in the war drums’ rhythm, the Dizhu Tribe leader looked up. When his gaze landed on Feng Xiyan’s cold face, greed flashed in his murky eyes.

Throwing aside the half-eaten thigh, he licked the blood from his lips and roared, "Drop what you are eating! The Beast God has bestowed us with better food!"

At his command, the tribe members discarded the body parts in their hands and stared greedily at Feng Xiyan and his men. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

As they drew closer, Feng Xiyan caught a strange, oppressive stench of blood wafting from them. Frowning slightly, he realized his internal energy was no longer flowing smoothly.

Sensing the change in his energy, the Yin Mirror snapped her fingers and vanished from the wall. A heartbeat later, she appeared beside Feng Xiyan, flying gracefully through the air.

Seeing his slightly pale face, the Yin Mirror glanced at the others and found out that Zhan Qi and the others looked even worse than Feng Xiyan. Without wasting any more time, she snapped her fingers.

Snap!

Instantly, a gentle gust of wind swept through the battlefield, dispersing the strange blood stench in the air.

As the smell faded, Feng Xiyan felt his internal energy gradually recover.

Noticing the slight change in his aura, the Yin Mirror explained, "Master, that is the scent of death. To humans, it drains strength and clouds the mind. I will disperse it whenever necessary. You may focus solely on the battle."
