My Anti-hero Fairy System-Chapter 82. Dr Slater
"Why now? Why did you do it at this moment? Why kill his wife?" Rudy pressed, his frustration growing.
"Your preacher got greedy, too big for his britches," Kyle said casually. "Guess he wanted to spend more of my money on his male whores. After so many warnings, I had to take action. His wife was just a casualty. What else would you have me do?"
Rudy exhaled sharply, rubbing his temple. "I’m not angry that he’s dead. He had it coming for a while. But this was the worst possible timing. The election is slipping through my fingers. With him alive, I could rally against an invisible boogeyman, use his influence to sway the voters. Now? Now he’s dead, and this scandal is dragging down his entire legacy. My chances just took a major hit."
Kyle shrugged. "Sorry for not considering your plight, but I had my own priorities."
Rudy narrowed his eyes. "Who did you send this time? Max?"
"No, not him," Kyle replied. "Ever since I realized he had his eye on my girl, I’ve been keeping my distance."
Rudy’s expression darkened slightly. "By ’your girl,’ you mean Cara, right?"
"Yeah," Kyle said, an amused grin playing on his lips. "Can you believe that hulk wannabe actually thinks he has a shot with her?"
Rudy let out a sudden, hysterical laugh—so unexpected and intense that it unsettled Kyle.
Kyle frowned. "Rudy... what the hell? I wasn’t that funny."
Rudy wiped a tear from his eye, still chuckling. "No, you weren’t. I’m laughing because you and Max? You’re both in the same damn boat."
Kyle’s amusement faded. "What are you saying, old man?"
"I’m saying neither of you stand a chance with her. She’s into women now," Rudy said, a smirk tugging at his lips.
Kyle scoffed. "Stop talking nonsense. My Cara isn’t into women. I know me not marrying your daughter still pisses you off, but don’t start making things up just to get under my skin."
Rudy leaned in slightly, voice low but firm. "It’s not nonsense. I’ve seen it myself. I caught her with Lucrecia and Jackie."
Kyle’s jaw tightened. "That’s not possible. Cara is mine. Her body belongs to me."
Rudy smirked. "I don’t think she sees it that way."
Just then, the elevator chimed, and the doors slid open.
Kyle stepped out alongside Rudy, still mulling over the revelation. "Are you serious about this?"
Rudy nodded. "Dead serious. I saw it with my own two eyes. She’s a lesbian."
Kyle mulled it over for a moment, then frowned. "Wait... the two women you caught her with—they were both your conquests, weren’t they?"
Rudy hesitated. "Yeah. So?"
"And in both instances, you walked in on them in the act?" Kyle asked, raising an eyebrow.
Rudy frowned, thinking back. "Yes, actually. That’s exactly what happened."
Kyle’s smirk returned. "This isn’t about her sexuality, old man. This is a revenge play."
Rudy’s face twisted in realization.
Kyle continued, "She must’ve caught you with those women first. And now? She’s making sure you pay for it."
"That bitch!" Rudy growled, storming into his office. He turned back toward Kyle, sneering. "So this is who you chose over my daughter? A woman who’d sleep with another woman just to spite me?"
Kyle ignored the jab and pulled out his phone. Seeing a new text, his grin widened. "Speak of the devil. My girl just asked me out." He locked eyes with Rudy, smug. "Pretty sure she wants to get back together."
Rudy scoffed. "Be careful with that girl. She’s a snake."
Kyle rolled his eyes. "Stop talking nonsense, Rudy. She’s mine—for life."
With that, he strode out of the office.

It was 9am when Cara received a text from Kyle:
"I’m too busy today. Let’s do this tomorrow morning at my place. What do you say?" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
She stepped into the diner’s storage room and texted back, "Okay, it’s a date then."
[That fool must think you two are getting back together,] Hagrit chimed in.
’Yeah, that much is obvious. But he’s not wrong—we are getting back together.’
[He definitely wouldn’t hesitate to demand sex.]
’Well, he can ask and demand all he wants, but he’s not getting it.’
Shoving her phone back into her pocket, Cara returned to the dining area just as Jackie arrived. She was late to work today—unusual for her. Their eyes met briefly before Jackie disappeared into her office without a word.
After finishing her rounds, Cara made her way to Jackie’s office and knocked.
"Come in," Jackie called.
Cara stepped inside. "Good morning, boss."
Jackie offered a small smile. "What can I do for you, Cara? I’m very busy right now."
"What’s keeping you so busy?" Cara asked, moving closer.
Their eyes locked for a brief moment before Jackie sighed. "I’ve been filling out legal documents since last night, and I’m still not done. I can’t do this alone, I need a lawyer. A trustworthy one."
"I’m assuming these legal documents have to do with suing Rudy?" Cara asked.
"Yes," Jackie admitted. "But I don’t trust the lawyers I’ve met this morning. Something about them doesn’t sit right with me—like they’d betray me instead of helping me take down Rudy Wesley."
Cara thought for a moment before saying, "I know the right person to represent you."
Jackie raised an eyebrow. "And he’s trustworthy?"
"He’s not an honest man," Cara admitted, "but he fights like hell for his clients."
Jackie scoffed. "Why would I want that? I need a trustworthy lawyer, not some sleazy guy."
"Jackie, what truly matters is winning this case," Cara reasoned. "And this lawyer hasn’t lost a single case in the 20 years he’s been practicing."
That caught Jackie’s attention. "He hasn’t lost a case? Who is he?"
"Germain Reedus. He’s been the lawyer for the Hemridge Globe for a while now, and he’s successfully defended us against every defamation case thrown our way."
Jackie considered that for a moment before nodding. "Forward me his contact information."
Cara pulled out her phone and tapped the screen. "Just sent it."
Jackie exhaled. "Okay, now that we’ve sorted that out, what else do you need?"
Cara hesitated for a beat before saying, "We left things up in the air yesterday, and I wanted to ask... what are we? Are we still lovers?"
Jackie sighed, rubbing her temple. "Cara, I’m still thinking about it. But there’s a lot to do today. I need to finalize the new menus before noon, interview new hires, especially since Lisa went missing."
"I understand," Cara said. "We’ll talk about it later." She turned to leave but then paused. "Before I go, I need permission to leave this afternoon to submit a report at my other workplace."
"Sure, no problem," Jackie said. Then she gave Cara a pointed look. "Though, I have to ask, when are you going back there permanently?"
Cara smirked. "Huh. Do you want to get rid of me that badly?"
Jackie chuckled. "No. I just need to know how many people I should be hiring today."
"Alright, before the end of the week, I’ll be out of here," Cara promised.
Jackie gave her one last unreadable look before Cara stepped out of the office.

Cara arrived at Hemridge Laboratory, where Darren worked, at exactly twenty minutes past noon. She had done her research beforehand—she knew who the main boss was and had carefully timed her arrival to coincide with his lunch break.
Glancing at her watch, she shifted her gaze toward the entrance of a nearby Mexican restaurant. Five minutes ago, she had watched him walk inside. Now, he emerged, heading toward the parking lot—a man in his late sixties, his graying hair thinning at the temples, his potbelly straining against the buttons of his lab coat.
As he reached for his car door, Cara strode up to him with a bright smile.
"Good afternoon, Dr. Slater."
He turned, startled by the unexpected address, but his expression quickly shifted to admiration as he took in the striking young woman before him.
"Young lady, you are stunning," he said, eyes lingering. "Have we met before?"
Cara’s smile didn’t waver. "Thank you for the compliment, sir, but no, we haven’t. Sorry to disturb you, I’m just a huge fan of your work on DNA, microorganisms, and viruses."
Dr. Slater’s chest puffed up slightly at the praise. "Wow! I’m impressed. It’s not every day a beautiful young woman takes an interest in such things."
Cara stepped closer, closing the distance between them until only inches remained. Her voice dropped slightly, laced with intrigue. "Thank you, sir. But I’m particularly interested in your latest work. You know... the virus that kills vampires."
The doctor’s face drained of color. His smile vanished, replaced by pure, unfiltered fear.
He knew instantly—this woman wasn’t a fan. She was a threat.
Panic set in. Without a word, he lunged for his car door, desperate to escape.
But he wasn’t fast enough.
Cara struck, driving her elbow into the side of his head with precision. He staggered, eyes rolling back, before crumpling to the ground, unconscious.
Without hesitation, she grabbed his limp body, dragging him into the backseat of his own car and took his car keys. Slamming the door shut, she slid into the driver’s seat and sped off.
