My Anti-hero Fairy System-Chapter 59. Cara & Lucrecia I
"I don’t care much for your tone, young lady," Hernan replied, his voice attempting to mask his unease.
"Oh, I’m sorry," Cara said with mock politeness, her gaze piercing. "I didn’t realize asking you to tell the truth was offensive."
"What exactly are you insinuating, Cara? Did you come into my office just to insult me?" Hernan shot back, his irritation beginning to seep through.
"No, Sir," Cara replied coolly. "That’s not why I came. I just want to know what happened that day, and you’re not helping."
Hernan sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Well, since you asked so nicely," he said, his tone laced with sarcasm. "We had some disagreements about where your investigation was heading. I came to the diner that day because I couldn’t reach you through normal channels."
"I’m guessing I didn’t want to speak to you," Cara interjected, her voice laced with sarcasm.
"I guess as much," Hernan said, exasperated. "I told you my concerns, but you brushed them off. I even offered you the permanent position, hoping to pull you back from this reckless pursuit. But you refused, claiming you were close to a breakthrough and couldn’t abandon your investigation. That’s why we argued. Satisfied?"
Cara tilted her head, reading his mind. She could hear the hesitation in his thoughts, the way his words didn’t quite match the truth. After a brief pause, she asked, "Can you tell me the real reason you wanted me to stop digging?"
Hernan furrowed his brow, his tone defensive. "I just told you everything."
"No, you didn’t," Cara said, her voice razor-sharp. "And you know what I think?"
"I don’t really care," Hernan said, his irritation boiling over.
"Well, I’m going to tell you anyway," Cara continued, undeterred. "Someone powerful told you to shut me down. I refused, and that’s why we argued. But the real question is, who could have forced your hand? Rudy Wesley, perhaps? And what did he offer you in return?"
"That’s enough!" Hernan barked, standing abruptly. "I’ve answered your questions. Now, I want you to leave my office."
"Sit down, Sir," Cara said without raising her voice, but with enough command to freeze him in place. "We’re not done. I want a job here. And I have 90% of what I need to expose the Temp-V trade in Hemridge."
Hernan stared at her, bewildered. "Are you insane?"
"No," Cara said with a faint smile. "I’m perfectly sane."
"You’re asking me to reopen an investigation I’ve already shut down, and to give you a job I’ve already given to someone else?" Hernan said, incredulous.
"You mean the job you gave to your boyfriend?" Cara retorted, her words landing like a thunderclap. Hernan’s face went pale, and his hands gripped the edge of his desk.
His face betrayed a mix of shock and panic. It was as if the floor had dropped out from under him.
"You don’t know what you’re saying," Hernan muttered, his voice trembling.
"Oh, I know exactly what I’m saying," Cara said confidently. "And I have proof that could destroy your life—or at least your marriage and reputation."
It was a bluff, but it landed like a hammer.
Hernan sank back into his chair, the weight of her threat pinning him down. "I’ll do what you’re asking," he said reluctantly, "but replacing someone on the staff won’t be easy."
"There’s bound to be someone here not pulling their weight," Cara said, standing. "Fire them and put me in their place. Figure it out."
As she reached the door, Hernan called out, "When will you be starting?"
Cara paused, glancing back over her shoulder. "When I’ve gathered all the evidence for my cover story. I’ll let you know. And one more thing," she added, her voice dropping to a menacing tone. "No one—absolutely no one—can know about this. If word gets out, kiss your sham marriage and sterling reputation goodbye." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Without another word, Cara stepped out, leaving Hernan alone, the walls of his office closing in around him.

Cara arrived at the mansion that afternoon, a triumphant spring in her step. She pressed the gate buzzer, and to her surprise, Max appeared to open it.
"When did they let you out of the station?" Cara asked, striding inside with an air of confidence.
Max gave her a grin. "About an hour ago. The boss paid my bail, so here I am."
"Welcome back," Cara said, her tone casual. "And what about Travis? Did he get bailed out too?"
Max’s smile faded as he shook his head. "No. His situation is more... complicated. The boss is still working on getting him out."
"That’s unfortunate," Cara replied, feigning sympathy. "So, Rudy’s out there, pulling strings to get his son free?"
"Actually, no," Max corrected. "He’s home right now, making calls to get Travis Out of jail."
Cara raised an eyebrow but kept her thoughts to herself. "Alright, Max. See you around." She gave him a parting nod and made her way toward the house.
As she stepped inside, her eyes immediately fell on Lucrecia, lounging in the sitting room, her attention fixed on the TV. She was dressed in her maid’s uniform, the fabric hugging her curves in a way that made Cara’s mouth go dry. Lucrecia looked stunning—radiant and enticing. Desire stirred in Cara, sharp and sudden.
’What are the odds of fulfilling one-half of my mission today, Hagrit?’ Cara thought, her inner voice dripping with anticipation.
[Quite high. With your charm, you could have her, but how do you plan to get Rudy to catch you?] Hagrit’s voice responded in her mind.
’I’ve got an idea. Just wait and watch,’ Cara replied, a sly smile creeping onto her lips.
She set her bag down on the sofa, and the sound drew Lucrecia’s attention. The maid looked up and quickly rose from her seat, smoothing the hem of her uniform.
"Welcome back, ma’am," Lucrecia said, her tone polite but warm.
"Oh, no need to stop watching TV on my account," Cara teased, her smile playful.
Lucrecia hesitated, her cheeks tinged with pink. "Sorry, ma’am. I just got distracted."
"There’s no need to apologize," Cara said, taking a step closer. "We’re all human, aren’t we? A little distraction can be a good thing."
Lucrecia smiled shyly as Cara closed the distance between them. Their giggles mingled in the air, soft and intimate. Cara stopped just inches away, her eyes locked on Lucrecia’s.
"I can offer you something better than TV, though," Cara said, her voice low and inviting.
Lucrecia’s gaze flickered to Cara’s cherry-red lips. "What could that be, ma’am?"
Cara reached up, flicking a stray strand of hair from her face with an elegant motion. "Just follow me, and I’ll show you."
Without waiting for a response, Cara turned and started walking down the corridor. Lucrecia hesitated for only a moment before following, her movements almost instinctive, as if entranced. A faint smile played on her lips, her curiosity and anticipation clear in her expression.
