My Amnesic Ex Married My Sister, So I Married His Uncle-Chapter 134: What Makes Him Worth Targeting?
A thought struck Henry Wright.
The Shaw Family of Veridia was enormous, with family members in all walks of life, so naturally, there were Shaws in the entertainment industry as well.
If he wasn’t mistaken, an elder from the Shaw Family had been the first director of the film studio. Even after his retirement, many members of the family’s branch lines remained at the studio.
If they could really establish this connection, chasing down resources like the major film production Catherine Linden had previously signed on for would be much easier.
After the dinner, Henry Wright rushed over to Zion Shawcross’s house at the first opportunity.
Zion Shawcross had just finished showering and was walking out of the bathroom.
Henry Wright froze, treated to the sight of a beautiful man emerging from the bath.
’Damn it!’
’But this guy is truly talented. He was born to be in this business.’
Even without Zion Shawcross’s songwriting ability, his face and physique alone were enough to guarantee a long and successful career in entertainment, as long as he didn’t make any mistakes.
Zion Shawcross seemed completely unfazed by Henry Wright’s sudden appearance in his home and even thoughtfully grabbed a bottle of water for him.
Henry Wright felt a sense of warmth.
’As expected, the kid I’m managing still has some consideration for me.’
"I got you your water. You can go now, right?"
"..."
He took back his previous thought.
Henry Wright rushed to Zion Shawcross’s side and sat down. "Do you know what condition Kiana Sterling proposed this time?"
Zion Shawcross glanced at him. "And I’m supposed to care, right?"
"...Yes! You know that painting of hers that broke an auction record? I just heard the Shaw Family from Veridia was the one who bought it. I also heard someone from the family is coming to visit soon. If we can connect with them, it would be a huge boost for your career! Are you really not going to think about it?"
"Oh."
"...That’s the Shaw Family! Even if you quit the industry in the future, this connection would still be useful!"
"Oh."
Zion Shawcross remained unmoved, which in turn made Henry himself seem greedy and obsessed with personal gain.
Henry Wright was so angry he started gasping for air.
Perhaps because his breathing was so heavy, Zion Shawcross worried he might get angry enough to die in his house, so he said, "What’s the use of telling me all this? Even if I agree, Silas Jacobs won’t. Go talk to him."
Henry Wright laughed in exasperation.
’Ha, these two are doing this on purpose.’
’Did he think I haven’t tried talking to Silas Jacobs?!’
He went to Silas Jacobs, and Silas Jacobs said it was fine as long as Zion Shawcross agreed.
He went to Zion Shawcross, and Zion Shawcross said it was fine as long as Silas Jacobs agreed.
And there it was—a perfect infinite loop.
Henry Wright was so furious he threw the water bottle in his hand.
Zion Shawcross looked at him and suddenly said, "The Shaws aren’t that easy to get close to anyway. Things are fine as they are now."
"They’re in such a high position, so it’s normal that they’re hard to approach. Don’t you want your career to go a little more smoothly?"
"My career is going quite smoothly right now."
"..."
’He’s right. I can’t really argue with that.’
Zion Shawcross was getting sleepy. He stood up to kick Henry out.
"If you just hold firm and don’t cooperate, a Shaw will eventually come looking for you."
Henry Wright’s frustration, which had been building all evening, suddenly vanished.
"What do you mean?"
"Exactly what it sounds like."
With that, Henry had been thrown out the door.
Henry Wright wasn’t stupid; he could read between the lines.
’Hold firm, and a Shaw will come looking for us?’
’No wonder Silas Jacobs and Zion Shawcross absolutely refused to budge. Maybe it was because the Shaws were involved from the very beginning?’ 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
’Could it be that the Shaw Family wants to insert someone into the project?’
’Whatever. As long as we don’t end up being controlled by Kiana Sterling, it’s fine.’
His heart, which had been fluttering with anxiety all evening, finally settled down.
...
Lanthos Bay was a bit lively tonight.
Jonathan Rhodes and Yolanda Thorne personally brought Ethan Rhodes to pay a visit.
Unfortunately, the two masters of the house were not in.
Mr. Joel hurriedly called Owen Rhodes. After being informed, Owen only said one word: "Understood."
Mr. Joel was taken aback.
’What does "Understood" mean?’
’What was he supposed to say?’
Having no other choice, Mr. Joel could only say that the Master and Madam had not yet returned and invite them to sit for a while.
In the end, they sat there for a full hour.
Mr. Joel was also on edge. He said, "Third Master, if you need to see the Master about something urgent, perhaps you should give him a call?"
Jonathan Rhodes’s expression was grim. He nodded without speaking.
The truth was, they had come today to ask a favor of Owen Rhodes.
Owen Rhodes had returned from his business trip to Veridia, and the project for Veridian Group was considered officially finalized.
At the regular morning meeting, there had been a commendation for this very project.
A simple commendation would have been fine, but there was another item on the agenda: the appointment of Evan Rhodes as the Project Director for Project Department One.
And as it happened, Ethan Rhodes was also in Project Department One.
So, with this one project, Evan Rhodes had directly become Ethan Rhodes’s superior.
How could Jonathan Rhodes possibly stomach that?
Evan Rhodes was young and had no experience working elsewhere after graduation. He was already the subject of criticism, and now he had been promoted!
It was just a minor personnel change, not nearly significant enough to require a decision from the board of directors.
The commendation was done so quickly that it gave no one any time to react.
And so, after the regular meeting that morning, Ethan Rhodes was dealt a stunning blow.
Yolanda Thorne only found out about it because Serena Kane had called her to gloat.
She said that her son had been promoted and happened to be in the same department as their Ethan. Since they were all family, they should support each other in the future. She hoped that Ethan would teach her son about anything he didn’t understand.
Yolanda Thorne had been so angry at the time that she had hung up the phone immediately.
That was why she had brought Ethan Rhodes straight to Lanthos Bay that evening.
Jonathan Rhodes had even canceled his evening engagements to come over with his wife and son.
He wanted Owen Rhodes to give him a proper explanation for what on earth was going on!
After sitting stiffly in Lanthos Bay for nearly three hours, the sound of the front door opening and closing finally came from the entryway.
Stella Sterling walked into the house, laughing and talking as she held Owen Rhodes’s hand. When she turned her head, she saw three unwelcome people sitting in the living room.
The smile on Stella Sterling’s face instantly froze.
Owen Rhodes lowered his head and kissed her on the forehead. "Go wash up first. I’ll handle this."
Stella looked up at him, her eyes filled with worry.
Owen gave a helpless smile. ’What was there to worry about? He wasn’t the reckless one. She was the one who always managed to make his heart race with fear.’
"It’s fine. Go wash up."
Stella Sterling nodded and went straight up to the master bedroom on the second floor without even greeting Jonathan Rhodes and Yolanda Thorne.
Seeing Stella Sterling’s happy expression, both Yolanda Thorne and Ethan Rhodes were stunned.
The two of them knew better than anyone what Stella used to be like.
It seemed they had never seen the adult Stella laugh so happily.
Ethan Rhodes, in particular, looked on in utter disbelief.
When he turned to look at Owen Rhodes again, his eyes were filled with resentment and fury.
Owen Rhodes pretended not to notice, sitting down on a single-seater sofa to face them.
"You all came uninvited. Is there something you need?"
Jonathan Rhodes didn’t care about matters of the heart. He only cared about one thing: "Based on Evan’s qualifications, today’s promotion was unfair, wasn’t it?"
"How so?"
Yolanda Thorne lost her composure and loudly accused, "Ethan is older than Evan and more experienced! This kind of responsibility should have been given to Ethan! You can’t target him just because he and Stella Sterling used to have a past!"
Owen Rhodes let out a light, disdainful laugh. "You must be joking. What is there about Ethan Rhodes that’s even worth my targeting?"
