My Amnesic Ex Married My Sister, So I Married His Uncle-Chapter 130: Where Do You Get the Nerve?
Stella shot him a glare. "Can’t even a meal shut you up!"
She had no idea how he could be such a motormouth.
As it turned out, a delicious meal really could shut someone up.
At least Ken buried his head in his food and didn’t say anything else that made Stella want to punch him.
Just as they finished lunch, Mr. Joel returned.
When he saw Stella was still home, he looked as if he’d just found his savior.
He gave Ken a quick smile before walking over to Stella. "Mrs. Rhodes," he said, "I just got back. There’s a man at the community gate claiming to be your brother. He’s been pestering the guards for a while now and refuses to leave..."
Stella was eating some fruit. She gestured to Ken, indicating that the mango was particularly good today.
Only then did she reply to Mr. Joel. "If the guards find him difficult to handle, tell them to call the police. What’s he doing loitering at the gate without an invitation? I don’t know anything about it. Don’t involve me."
Mr. Joel and Tate had been told by Owen Rhodes before that Stella didn’t have a good relationship with her family.
If any of her family members showed up, they were not to act on their own authority but to follow Stella’s instructions.
When Mr. Joel first heard from the guards that the gentleman had no appointment, he hadn’t wanted to get involved.
But the weather had been scorching lately, and the man had an injured arm in a sling, just like Mrs. Rhodes.
He was worried something might happen, so he decided it was best to inform Mrs. Rhodes first.
Given her current attitude, this would also keep the guards from being put in a difficult position.
Mr. Joel was about to contact the community’s security office.
The moment the call connected, the person on the other end sounded even more frantic. "Mr. Joel! We were just about to call you! That man at the gate—the one claiming to be Mrs. Rhodes’s older brother—he seems to have fainted from heatstroke! What do we do?"
What were they supposed to do?
He didn’t know either!
Mr. Joel immediately relayed the news to Stella.
Stella remained as cool as ever, looking completely unconcerned.
"If he has heatstroke, send him to the hospital. Call an ambulance. I’m not a doctor. It’s not like my presence is going to magically cure him, is it?"
The phone was close enough that the security staff on the other end heard Stella’s words clearly.
In their line of work, especially in a high-end community like this, the residents’ orders were scripture.
Besides, far too many people tried to sneak into a community like this every day, using every ridiculous excuse in the book.
Since Mrs. Rhodes had given her instructions, it made their job easier.
Otherwise, they might act on their own initiative only to have it backfire on them, which would be a real nightmare.
With Stella’s stance made clear, they could call the ambulance with a clear conscience.
Chase Sterling had indeed fainted, but it was only from the heat. He came to after a little while.
So he had heard every word Stella said over the phone, crystal clear.
The heatstroke had already made his face look awful. Now, it turned even paler.
The memory of the day he had forced Stella to apologize to Felix Hollis by drinking with him was still vivid.
At first, he had thought that when Owen Rhodes said the Innovire project was entirely up to Stella, he was just saying that for her sake, to save face in that situation.
But after all his attempts to contact Innovire’s general manager and visit Owen Rhodes had failed, he had spent days steeling himself at home before finally swallowing his pride to come to Lanthos Bay and beg Stella for help.
He never imagined Stella would humiliate him so completely!
Chase Sterling’s expression was grim.
He had been counting on Kiana Sterling to work her connections with Ethan Rhodes for help.
As it turned out, Kiana Sterling, for some reason, seemed to be at odds with Ethan Rhodes lately.
She was throwing tantrums at home all day.
As for getting help from Gavin Sterling, that was out of the question.
Gavin Sterling had never supported his business ventures in the first place.
He had only reluctantly given in before because Kiana Sterling’s relationship with Ethan Rhodes was thriving, which he saw as a promising sign.
At home these past few days, all Gavin Sterling did was tell him to stop what he was doing and cut his losses.
’Cut his losses? How?’
’He’d invested so much already, and new energy is a booming sector. Why couldn’t his father see that?’
’And Stella... who knows what got into her, acting with such audacity, practically severing ties with the family!’
’Hadn’t the family treated her well all these years?’
’She had such a terrible temper and a rotten personality; their family was the only one who would put up with her. What was she being so stubborn about?!’
’Now he couldn’t even get a meeting with her.’
’He’d come all the way to her doorstep, and she still had the nerve to refuse him!’
’Sure enough, with Owen Rhodes backing her, she’d grown a backbone.’
’Hah. He refused to believe Owen Rhodes would treat her this well forever!’
At this thought, a surge of rage overcame him. Chase Sterling, who had only just regained consciousness, nearly fainted again.
The guards in the security office watched in terror, praying he wouldn’t try to extort them later.
They quickly called for an ambulance to come and take Chase Sterling away.
After Stella hung up, her mood, thankfully, remained unaffected.
With Ken around, he could even get a few wisecracks in.
"Stella, are your bizarre relatives still acting up?"
Stella, eating her mango, just hummed in agreement.
"You know, President Rhodes is a pretty great guy. See? Living here, they can just block people at the gate and not let them in at all. It’s perfect."
Stella agreed.
The mango was excellent, and she nodded in happy confirmation.
’I really wish the Sterlings would stop popping up in front of me.’
’Don’t they have any self-awareness about what they’ve done?’
’Where do they get the nerve, thinking she’s the one who owes them?’
’But once Zion Shawcross’s new album is finished, some things are bound to come to light.’
’What the situation will be then...’
’She used to look forward to it, but now, she found she didn’t really care.’
After leisurely finishing the fruit with Ken and resting for a bit, Stella changed her clothes, ready to head to her art studio.
Just before she left, Mr. Joel stepped out for a moment.
He returned carrying a large bouquet of vibrant red roses, so fresh they still looked dewy.
Ken grinned. "Well now, Mr. Joel. Feeling romantic? Who are those for? Tate?"
Mr. Joel looked troubled. "Of course not..."
He glanced at Stella. "Mrs. Rhodes... they’re for you."
Hearing this, Ken leaned in for a closer look.
It was a huge bouquet of red roses, each one in perfect bloom. Droplets of water clung to the petals, a testament to the sweltering heat.
"Wow, so they’re from President Rhodes."
Stella stared at the bouquet, slightly stunned.
’Is today some special occasion?’
’No, it isn’t.’
’So why would Owen Rhodes suddenly send her flowers?’
Finding it odd, Stella walked over and examined the bouquet closely.
There was no card tucked into the bouquet, only a small notecard threaded through the ribbon. It read: "Hoping you’re happy every day. —Ethan Rhodes"
Ken had a quick eye and read it in a single glance.
After reading it, he shot Stella a cryptic look, his eyes asking what she was going to do now.
Stella didn’t even blink. "Mr. Joel, throw them away. Ken, let’s go to the art studio."
"Okay."
’Mr. Ethan Rhodes is up to no good,’ Mr. Joel thought. ’I must inform the master.’
Just as he was thinking this, Stella, who had already started to leave, turned back.
She took out her phone, snapped a picture of the roses, and sent it to Kiana Sterling with a simple message: "Leash your dog."
